Klay Thompson Dealt Personal Loss
Klay Thompson Dealt Personal Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The last few years, for the most part, haven't been very kind to Klay Thompson.
He tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals, a year after winning his third world championship in four seasons, and he had to miss all of the 2019-20 season. Then prior to the following campaign, he tore his Achilles.

After missing two full seasons, he helped the Golden State Warriors get another ring in 2022, but he wasn't the same player. He left to join the Dallas Mavericks last summer, but the Mavericks failed to reach the playoffs this year.
Off the court, Thompson is reportedly facing another type of adversity with the passing of his beloved 13-year-old dog, Rocco.
Although elite pro athletes such as Thompson have seemingly all the money in the world and all the freedom to do whatever they want, they're still flawed and sensitive souls just like the rest of us. Therefore, when one of them loses a beloved pet, it will hurt just as much as it hurts a mere mortal who makes $15 an hour.

It was thought that Thompson's arrival in Dallas would put the team over the top after it reached the NBA Finals last year. But he shot a career-low 41.2% from the field, and once Luka Doncic was traded away in early February, his level of support only dwindled.

One by one, one key player after another fell victim to injury. All-Star guard Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in early March, and that was likely the injury that sunk the Mavericks more than any other.
While they're presumably about to welcome Duke phenom Cooper Flagg to their clan via next month's NBA draft, Rocco the dog is crossing the rainbow bridge.

NBA working on plan for US-vs.-world format at All-Star Game next season, AP source says
Silver addressed the idea on March 27 as well at the league's most recent board of governors meeting, when he revealed that the NBA was scrapping the All-Star mini-tournament format that was used this season. At that time, the AP reported that the 2026 game — to be played Feb. 15 in Inglewood, Calif., just past the midpoint of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics — will be moved from its traditional prime-time Sunday night slot to one that starts on Sunday afternoon. That's happening because the game will be aired on NBC under the terms of the new 11-year media rights deals that kick in next season. NBC is also the Olympic broadcaster in the US. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up So, NBC could show Olympic events in the morning and early afternoon, then the All-Star Game, then have prime-time Olympic programming. Related : Advertisement The move comes on the heels of a popular tournament, the 4 Nations Face-off, that essentially took the place of the NHL All-Star Game this year, as well as strong competition at the Paris Olympics, where the Americans won a fifth consecutive gold medal by rallying past Nikola Jokic and Serbia in the semifinals, then topping host France and Victor Wembanyama in the title game — Advertisement 'What better time to feature some form of USA against the world?' Silver said on FS1. 'I'm not exactly sure what the format will be yet. I obviously paid a lot of attention to what the NHL did, which was a huge success. . . . But also, going back, last summer, our Olympic competition was a huge success.' There is one big challenge regarding any US-vs.-world format. About 70 percent of NBA players are American, while 30 percent are international, so it would in theory be easier for an international player to make the All-Star team — if the rosters are the same size. International players, when asked at this year's All-Star Game if they would want a US-vs.-world matchup, sounded enthusiastic. 'I would love to. My opinion is that it's more purposeful,' Wembanyama said back in February. 'There's more pride in it. More stakes.' Added Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo, who's from Greece: 'I would love that. Oh, I would love that. I think that would be the most interesting and most exciting format. I would love that. For sure, I'd take pride in that. I always compete, but I think that will give me a little bit more extra juice to compete.' The Advertisement The

Tony Bradley reflects on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander before MVP ascension
Tony Bradley reflects on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander before MVP ascension Being a surprise contributor, Tony Bradley provided the Indiana Pacers with some great depth in their Eastern Conference Finals win over the New York Knicks. The backup center had quite a long journey to reach this point. One of his many stops was against his NBA Finals opponent. As the baseball saying goes, Bradley had a cup of coffee on the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was part of a multi-player trade that sent him to the then-rebuilding squad for the final two months of the 2020-21 season. He averaged 8.7 points and 6.1 rebounds in 22 games. Bradley had a front-row view of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's climb to the top of the NBA. They never played a game together as Gilgeous-Alexander sat out the final two months of the season with plantar fasciitis, but he still saw glimpses of what he'd eventually blossom into four years later. "Honestly, he's the same player. When I was here, he was just getting more recognition," Bradley said. "Of course, he's improved since I've been with him, but I've seen the potential was there. But yeah, great player." It's always interesting to hear the perspective from Gilgeous-Alexander's former teammates before he ascended into an MVP winner. Very few saw him develop into a premium 30-point scorer in just three seasons after he was dealt to OKC. Even though Bradley's tenure with the Thunder was forgettable, what he thought of his former teammate at the time was always going to be a fun response to hear about. Just goes to show how unpredictable a player's path can be.
