Cowboys Jerry Jones Accused of Trades Lies

Cowboys Jerry Jones Accused of Trades Lies

Yahoo07-05-2025

FRISCO - So, were there actual fires? Or only more public relations smoke?
When it comes to Jerry Jones and his pre-draft proclamation about "substantive" trades being in the works, some Dallas Cowboys fans - and media - slid to the edge of their seats waiting for the show. Where there's smoke there's going to be fire, they reasoned. Others, meanwhile, skeptically yawned and bet that it was merely the latest in a long line of attempts by the owner to keep his team relevant.

"We're looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft," Jones said a couple days before the draft. "Two pretty substantive trades."
So, what happened?
The Cowboys were linked - by CowboysCountry.com and various outlets - to trades for receivers such as Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos, George Pickens of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Miami Dolphins' Tyreek Hill. Some even urged and/or thought Jerry would pull a blockbuster and somehow move up from No. 12 to No. 2 to draft Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
Our reporting suggests the Cowboys made and received calls about a major trade or two. And, yes, for a receiver. There was also take a trade down with the Houston Texans. But ...

In the end, nothing. Not that the Cowboys - by most accounts - didn't have a productive draft. Almost unanimously they are getting high grades from draft experts.
But those that think Jones is the owner who cried wolf - Cowboys fans among them -now have another bullet in the chamber. Included in that group is Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Remind you, he's the same guy who writes a story about Shedeur Sanders potentially going back to Colorado, gloats about the story being the most popular in the site's 23-year history and then - buried down deep - admits it's a move that was never realistically going to happen.
Over the weekend Florio chimed in with a lot of disillusioned Cowboys fans, by poking fun at Jerry's latest broken promise.

"Fans and media have begun to wake up to the notion that Cowboys owner and G.M. Jerry Jones is more carnival barker than trophy chaser," he writes. "It's not about winning, it's about being interesting. And he always finds ways to be interesting."
Knowing the state of his impatient and unhappy fan base, Jerry probably shouldn't have excitedly announced "Hey guys, we're working on some big trades!". Lots of teams made calls about deals that never happened during the draft.
But when it's Jerry and the Cowboys, critics like Florio are there to pounce when those efforts don't come to fruition.
The truth? Jerry Jones, when it comes to trade-talk reveals, can be both a carnival barker and a non-liar.

Dak Prescott makes clear what his Cowboys priority is: ‘Be damned if it's just for my legacy'

Dak Prescott wants a championship ring, no matter the cost. Prescott told reporters on Thursday that it is his primary goal, regardless of the legacy he leaves in the NFL. 'Yeah, I want to win a championship,' Prescott said. 'The legacy, the things, whatever comes after I finish playing will take care of itself. I want to win a championship. Be damned if it's just for my legacy, or if it's for this team, for my personal being, for my sanity. Yeah, the legacy will take care of itself. I have to stay where my feet are.' Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his 10th season with the Cowboys. AP Prescott is getting ready for his 10th NFL season, and only Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman has had a longer tenure in Dallas while starting under center. While Prescott, 31, has led the Cowboys to five playoff appearances, those trips have always ended before the team reached the NFC championship. Prescott has recently faced some tough injury luck, missing games in four of the last five seasons due to different setbacks. Last season, he missed nine games due to surgery on his hamstring. Now, as the 2025 season is approaching, Prescott seems to be feeling good about things in Dallas, with whom he signed a four-year, $240 million extension before last season, which has already been restructured. 'These OTAs, just the way that I've been seeing minicamp, the communication with [coach Brian Schottenheimer], with the quarterbacks or the quarterback room, just a lot of good things,' Prescott said. 'A lot of really good things that have me in a great place. I'm healthy. Excited as hell.' First-year head coach for the Dallas Cowboys Brian Schottenheimer AP With a new head coach in Schottenheimer, maybe they can complete Prescott's goal and bring a Lombardi Trophy back to the Lone Star State.

Woman unknowingly bonds with Travis Hunter on an airplane: ‘Nicest young man'

One woman had 'the most wonderful flight home' from Denver, Colorado, thanks to her seat companion: NFL rookie Travis Hunter. Sandy Hawkins Combs shared in a Facebook post May 10 that she met 'the nicest young man' sitting beside her on a plane. Advertisement 'He offered to put my bag in the overhead compartment and helped me with my tray. He was always polite, saying 'yes ma'am' or 'no ma'am,'' she recalled in the post. 'Anyone would be proud to have him as a son or grandson — so polite.' People then began walking by their seats and congratulating the man, according to Combs, who had no clue whom she was seated beside. 'I turned and asked him, 'Who am I sitting next to?' I looked at his Jaguar pants, smiled, and asked, 'Are you an athlete?'' she wrote. 'He smiled and said, 'I'm Travis. Yes, I was drafted by the Jags.'' Unbeknownst to her, Combs was sitting next to a newly minted Jacksonville Jaguars player. Travis Hunter and Sandy Hawkins Combs. (via Facebook) 'I already told my sons I want his jersey,' Combs wrote. Advertisement Raving about Hunter's character, she continued, 'He's so humble and down-to-earth — I would have never guessed he was a professional athlete.' Combs then congratulated the Jaguars on their new player, telling the team, 'You did good! I will be buying tickets.' She also thanked United Airlines for her unexpected seat assignment. The former University of Colorado cornerback and wide receiver went No. 2 at the 2025 NFL draft last month after winning the coveted Heisman Trophy, which named him the top collegiate football player in 2024. During his acceptance speech in December 2024, Hunter became emotional when thanking his family — specifically his dad, Travis Hunter Sr. — for sacrifices they made allowing him to play and excel at his sport. Advertisement 'I want to say something to my father. He's not here. But I know you're watching on TV,' Hunter said, wiping tears from his eyes. 'Dad, I love you. All the stuff you went through, man. Now, look at your oldest son. I did it for you, man.' In March 2024, Hunter memorably surprised his mom with a home in Savannah, Georgia, capturing her reaction in a heartwarming video posted to YouTube. Before showing his mom her new abode, Hunter described the five-bedroom house as 'very, very nice' to his camerawoman and fiancée, Leanna Lenee. When his mom, Ferrante Edmonds, realized she was just gifted a beautiful home, gold confetti erupted into the air amid plenty of smiles and laughter. This article was originally published on

Micah Parsons says Cowboys not signing him to extension already will 'cost them more' eventually

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons attended the team's mandatory minicamp this week despite not coming to agreement on a new contract after his current deal expires after this season. (However, he skipped voluntary OTAs in the spring.) In the edge rusher's view, team owner Jerry Jones would have already saved money had he signed Parsons to an extension by now. Advertisement "It's going to cost them more," Parsons told longtime reporter Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS. Parsons, 26, is in a race with fellow pass rushers Trey Hendrickson and T.J. Watt to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL with their new deal. Both of those players didn't report to mandatory minicamps amid their respective contract disputes. The four-time Pro Bowler said that he and Jones made a handshake deal in March, according to Hill (via Pro Football Talk). But the Cowboys owner never called Parsons' agent to work out the final details of a contract. Parsons claims that he's seen what Watt is asking for from the Pittsburgh Steelers, which has not been reported. But whatever Watt is seeking is more than what Parsons and Jones had agreed to, according to the four-year veteran. And if Watt gets the contract he wants, Parsons will almost certainly ask for more, which is what he meant by his remarks to Hill. Advertisement Myles Garrett currently holds the belt for the league's highest-paid pass rusher after agreeing to a four-year extension with the Cleveland Browns in early March that pays him an average annual salary of $40 million. However, Ja'Marr Chase's new deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, signed less than a week later, edged him out for the top spot at $40.25 million per season. Parsons is set to be paid $24 million this season after the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option. He hopes to get a deal finalized before training camp begins on July 21. If no deal is done, he says he will report but not practice. During his NFL career, Parsons has averaged 14 sacks per season, in addition to 69 tackles, two forced fumbles and 17 tackles for loss. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and was named first-team All-Pro in his first two seasons. Last year, Parsons was named second-team All-Pro after notching 12 sacks.
