Constitute mandal-level price fixation committees: Bhatti to babus

Hans India01-07-2025
Hyderabad: In view of the construction of Indiramma houses, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu emphasized that essential construction materials like cement, steel, bricks, and sand must be made readily available to the general public. He directed that price fixation committees be formed at the mandal (block) level to determine the prices. On Monday, a Revenue Resource Mobilization meeting was held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, attended by ministers and Sub-Committee members Uttam Kumar Reddy and Duddilla Sridhar Babu.
The group of ministers first reviewed the progress made on decisions taken during the previous meeting, department-wise. One of the key decisions taken earlier was to ensure that sand is available to the general public across the state.
In line with that, officials informed the meeting that 20 sand sale centers have been established. The sub-committee members advised officials to expedite the setup of more such centers across the state, especially in market yards and government lands, to ensure widespread access to sand. The group of ministers also discussed the steps needed to speed up the resolution of Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) applications.
Officials suggested that revising (increasing) the basic land values in Sub-Registrar offices might encourage more applicants to come forward.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives aimed at enabling tribals to operate sand quarries directly in agency areas, without any middlemen. The Deputy Chief Minister and Sub-Committee Chairman instructed officials to explore ways to enhance revenue without imposing any additional tax burden on the public.
He also directed that the Chief Secretary should conduct daily reviews of the decisions made by the Revenue Resource Mobilization Sub-Committee. He urged departments to show tangible progress on all matters discussed in the sub-committee and advised officials to contact him directly if they encounter any obstacles so that file movements can be expedited.

On behalf of the Committee, its chief, Panneerselvam will soon commence tour of several parts of the state and it has been resolved to decide on the question of alliance in future according to the political circumstances, he added. Live Events Asked on the reasons for quitting the NDA, Ramachandran said the reason was widely known and there was no necessity to explain it. He expressing confidence that "a right alliance to lead the people in the right direction will materialise in future." Asked if the BJP has betrayed Panneerselvam-led panel, Ramachandran said he need not spell out what the BJP did to the Committee as the nation knows it. To a question, Panneerselvam said he met Stalin here during his morning walk and that he moved on after conveying his pleasantries. Amid speculations about his next move, when Panneerselvam strongly condemned the union government on July 29 for not releasing 'Samagra Shiksha' funds to Tamil Nadu it became more clear that he was preparing to move out of the NDA. Popularly known as OPS, Panneerselvam's attempt to get an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Tamil Nadu on July 26 and 27 also did not materialise. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami met the prime minister at Tiruchirappalli airport on July 26 night. Also, Panneerselvam had not been invited when Amit Shah visited the state in recent times. OPS partnered with the NDA for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and at that time, the AIADMK was not part of the BJP alliance as it had pulled out of the coalition in September 2023. In April this year, the AIADMK revived ties with the BJP. Panneerselvam, who was expelled from the AIADMK on July 11, 2022, continues to contest the leadership of Palaniswami. Attempts of OPS and his supporters aimed at rapprochement have so far not yielded results. To this day, OPS has maintained that he is an "AIADMK man," and had ruled out floating a separate political party and the BJP top leadership had asserted that it would not interfere in the internal affairs of its ally, the AIADMK. Of late, there has been speculation that OPS may strike an alliance with actor-politician Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for the 2026 Assembly polls as the BJP did not show clear signs of accommodating him. However, Panruti Ramachandran, while speaking to reporters on Thursday, did not give a categorical answer to a related question.

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam walks out of NDA, decision on alliance later

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam's faction, AIADMK Cadres Rights Retrieval Committee, on Thursday snapped ties with the BJP-led NDA. Paneerselvam would be touring several parts of Tamil Nadu on behalf of the committee.(X/ @OfficeofOPS) The decision was announced by veteran leader and advisor to the Committee, Panruti S Ramachandran. Ramachandran, surrounded by Panneerselvam and other panel leaders, said, "Hereafter the Committee will not be a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)," according to PTI news agency. He further said that Panneerselvam would be touring several parts of Tamil Nadu on behalf of the committee. He added that the faction will take a decision on the question of alliance in the future depending on the circumstances. The decision came days after OPS condemned the BJP-led Centre for withholding funds of up to ₹2,151 crore from Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. He alleged that the funds were being held due to the state government's refusal to allow the three-language formula mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. He said that this was against the Right to Education (RTE) Act and 'the principle of federalism'. …The Central Government's approach has created a pathetic situation where 25% of students cannot be enrolled in private schools under the RTE…' he added. Exit comes days after OPS denied meeting with PM Modi OPS was also reportedly miffed after he was allegedly declined a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the latter's visit to Tamil Nadu from July 26 to July 28. However, BJP state unit president Nainar Nagendran said he was not aware that the former CM wanted to meet the Prime Minister. 'If I had known, I would have definitely arranged a meeting for him," Nagendran said. OPS contested as an independent under the NDA banner in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but faced defeat. Reports suggest that OPS had been unhappy over the lack of respect for him in the NDA coalition. 'Some of us had advised him to remain independent and not to join the BJP long back last year,' an expelled AIADMK leader close to leader said on the condition of anonymity.
