Amirudin said, however, the focus and attention on monitoring in peatland areas is still being carried out as the risk of fire is greater and difficult to control.
"There were three fire incidents, namely in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Kajang and Seri Gombak. But Alhamdulillah they were brought under control immediately.
"We are currently monitoring the situation in Kuala Kubu Bharu to ensure that it does not continue. What we are worried about is in the peatland area, because if (a fire) occurs, it will take a long time and involve a larger operation,' he said.
He told reporters after officiating the third Children's Book Festival at the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Complex here today.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government through the Public Health and Environment Exco Jamaliah Jamaluddin and the State Disaster Management Unit had been mobilised to monitor the haze situation on a daily basis.
He said the monitoring also included more frequent patrols in hotspots and high-risk areas so that fires, in particular, would not recur.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Selangor Children's Book Festival 2025, Amirudin said that the third edition proved the state government's commitment in strengthening the book industry ecosystem, especially in the children's segment.
He said that apart from organising the general book festival which is usually held every year, Selangor also focused on organising a special book fair for children to open up more space for local publishers to market their works.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said that the distribution of aid amounting to over RM3 million is being carried out in stages starting Wednesday until Friday, in collaboration with the Penampang District Council (MPPg), held at the KDCA Hall, Penampang. 'This aid can never fully replace the losses, trauma and exhaustion experienced, but it reflects the commitment of various parties to assist residents affected by the floods. 'It is the result of collaborative efforts across agencies, from leaders to civil servants in numerous ministries, agencies, and departments, to ensure the funds are properly allocated and delivered to the affected households,' he said. He said this when met by reporters after officiating the aid handover ceremony at KDCA Hall on Wednesday. Ewon said several initiatives have been implemented and are ongoing to strengthen disaster management and reduce the impact of flooding in the Penampang district. 'These include the installation of early warning systems in the form of sirens in several frequently affected villages such as Kampung Kodundungan, Nambazan, Penampang Proper, Putaton, Kolopis and Sugud. 'This measure aims to provide earlier alerts to residents to prepare for any eventuality,' he said. He added that 21 buildings, including schools, community halls and churches in high-risk areas, are being proposed for gazettement as temporary evacuation centres. He also stressed the importance of the ongoing flood mitigation projects under Package 1 and Package 3, and stated that follow-up projects are also being planned to support these efforts. At the same time, the Drainage and Irrigation Department, together with MPPg, continues to carry out river and drainage maintenance works as a long-term measure to reduce the risk of recurring floods. 'I hope that with all these efforts, including support from all relevant stakeholders, we can prevent severe flood disasters like those that have occurred in the past,' he said.

More than enough water in Selangor and Kedah, say authorities
PETALING JAYA: Seven dams in Selangor and Kedah are running low, but domestic users in the two states need not worry. There is more than enough water supply to last for months, say authorities. In fact, levels of the dams in the Klang Valley have gone up after recent rains and there is enough to last for the next 90 days, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. 'The Selangor Water Management Board reported that all dams in the state have reached capacities of more than 82%. 'This means all dams have sufficient water supply for the next 90 days even if there is no rain during that period. 'We also have groundwater reserves that can last us for another 60 days. 'However, we expect heavy rainfall by October when the monsoon transition occurs,' he said. Amirudin said supply had been low previously because off-river storage was used to meet the needs of a water treatment plant after pollution was detected. 'This was part of the new Raw Water Guarantee Scheme. It is aimed at preventing polluted water in the river from entering the water treatment plant,' he said. On Monday, four dams in Selangor – Langat, Sungai Selangor, Tasik Subang and Sungai Tinggi – were in the red zone. Another dam, Semenyih, was in the orange zone, which is considered a warning stage. As of yesterday, Sungai Selangor dam was at a capacity of 83%, Sungai Tinggi (82%), Langat (87%), Semenyih (99%), Batu (84%), Tasik Subang (90%), Klang Gates (92%). Sungai Labu off-river storage is at 99% capacity. In Kedah, the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) said there was ample water supply from the Pedu, Muda and Ahning dams for irrigation and domestic purposes. 'Water from the dams is being released at a rate of 3,500 cubic feet per second to meet the needs of padi cultivation in the Muda area, as well as domestic and industrial needs in Kedah and parts of southern Perlis,' it said. Current reservoir capacity at Mada's dams is 53.34% (Pedu), 33.84% (Muda) and 58.58% (Ahning). 'The 789.06mil cubic metres available yesterday is higher than the 633.42mil cubic metres on Aug 5 last year. 'We have sufficient water to meet the irrigation needs of the first main padi planting this year (in September) and for domestic and industrial needs in the Muda area,' said Mada.

Rain will begin in the southwestern provinces and Jeju during the day, then gradually spread to the southeastern and central regions before covering most of the country, except for areas along the East Sea, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The rainfall is expected to continue through Tuesday, with precipitation reaching up to 150 mm in the southern regions, including the southern port city of Busan. The administrative city of Sejong and other central regions are forecast to receive up to 100 mm of rain. In particular, heavy downpours of 50 to 80 mm per hour are expected at night along parts of the southern coast of South Jeolla Province, around Mount Jiri and in Jeju's mountainous areas, the agency added. Strong winds are also forecast for the west coast of South Jeolla Province, with gusts exceeding 20 meters per second later in the day. "Residents are urged to monitor the weather updates frequently, avoid unnecessary outings as much as possible and steer clear of risky areas, such as riverside trails, slopes and low-lying roads. Visitors at beaches and campgrounds should exercise caution and evacuate in advance, if needed," a local government official said. Last month, South Korea was hit by heavy rains and landslides, which took 23 lives and left five others unaccounted for nationwide. As the rain moves in, heat wave advisories are expected to be gradually lifted or eased.
