Saudi Team Secures 4 Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2025 in Dubai

Saudi Arabia's team has secured four bronze medals at the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2025, which took place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to Mawhiba.
The 2025 edition has witnessed the participation of 354 students from 90 countries, fostering international collaboration in chemistry.
The Saudi team consisted of four students who previously obtained required training and supervision from the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
The Saudi team secured 4 medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2025, which took place in Dubai and attracted 354 students, representing 90 countries.

During the previous editions, the Kingdom won 45 international awards, including 15 silver medals, 28 bronze medals, as well as two certificates of appreciation.
IChO seeks basically to encourage students to develop innovative and advanced solutions to complex chemical issues.
Being the world's largest academic competition in chemistry at the high school level, the Olympiad has been held annually since its beginning in 1968.

Alswaha also met with Marie-Laure Denis, President of the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL), to explore cooperation in data governance and protection. The discussion included Saudi Arabia's regulatory frameworks and international initiatives to promote responsible use of emerging technologies. Additionally, the Saudi delegation held talks with Patrice Caine, Chairman and CEO of Thales Group, on collaboration in intelligent systems and space technologies. The discussions focused on supporting Saudi Arabia's priorities in building robust digital infrastructure and advancing its high-tech industrial base.

Global Enrichment Program empowers 146 Mawhiba students with career skills

RIYADH: The Global Enrichment Program at King Saud University in Riyadh offered Mawhiba students a platform to explore their talents, aspirations and potential, helping guide their future career paths. Organized in partnership with the the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, or Mawhiba, the program ran from June 27 to July 17. It combined education with enjoyment and aimed to discover and nurture gifted students from Saudi Arabia and beyond. Ali Al-Dalbahi, dean of student affairs at the university and head of the program, said it brought together exceptional students from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and Sudan, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. A total of 146 students took part in eight specialized tracks, including medical and surgical sciences, mechanical engineering, space and missile engineering, economics and investment, cybersecurity, AI and big data, and the application of AI and big data in biomedical sciences. The program also partnered with Oxmedica Global Education, a UK-based organization which provided nine international trainers from Oxford, Cambridge, King's College London, Google and Dubai Business Associates. Each day included an hour of academic English and strategic learning. Beyond academics, students took part in enrichment activities that taught key business skills and supported their personal growth. Abdullah Al-Shahri, enrolled in the AI and big data track, described the program as an inspiring journey filled with valuable learning and meaningful interaction. He praised the instructors' expertise and enthusiasm, expressing gratitude for their strong support throughout the experience. Mishaal Al-Harbi, specializing in AI and big data in biomedical sciences, said his passion for technology and medicine motivated him to join. The program offered a unique opportunity to explore emerging fields, especially the application of AI in healthcare, he added. Al-Harbi found learning Python both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating, which sparked his curiosity to delve deeper, the SPA reported. Kuwaiti student Youssef Al-Khashti described the medical and surgical sciences track as a transformative experience, where he gained valuable knowledge and hands-on practice. He expressed appreciation for the organizers' professionalism and dedication to high-quality learning. Fahd Al-Rabiah, focused on economics, finance and investment, said the program enriched his academic, social and personal development. He called it a unique intellectual and cultural experience that broadened his perspective and strengthened his skills. Under expert guidance, he deepened his understanding of core economic principles and the flow of goods and services within the economy.

The Saudi Space Agency (SSA) announced on Tuesday the successful execution and safe return of scientific experiments conducted in microgravity by 10 student winners from Saudi Arabia and several Arab countries, as part of the 'Space Madak' competition. This pioneering initiative aimed to empower youth across the Arab world by enabling them to carry out space-based experiments that combine the disciplines of art, engineering, and plant science. Pioneering Initiative Launched in partnership with the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk) and the Ilmi Center for Science Discovery and Innovation, a Misk affiliate, the competition aimed to foster Arab creativity and inspire deeper engagement with the future of space exploration. The mission featured 10 diverse student-led experiments, including scientific research and creative projects, submitted by students from Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations. The experiments were carried out aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and returned to Earth following the conclusion of the AX-4 mission. The selected projects underwent rigorous scientific and artistic evaluation by experts from the Kingdom and abroad. Selection criteria included the quality of the idea, feasibility in a space environment, and potential to inspire future innovation. Conducting the Experiments Veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson conducted the experiments during her stay aboard the ISS, under the direct supervision of Saudi astronaut Rayyanah Barnawi and with technical oversight from the Saudi Space Agency's scientific teams. Barnawi, the first Saudi female astronaut, has previously conducted 14 experiments aboard the ISS as part of her mission. 'Space Madak,' the first competition of its kind in the Arab world, significantly enhanced student engagement in the space sector. Through its three tracks — arts, plants, and engineering — the competition offered educational and practical opportunities that support the development of national and regional scientific capabilities. Over 80,000 students from across the Arab world participated in the competition, showcasing a wide range of innovative ideas. Impact and Future Goals The SSA confirmed the success of the scientific experiments conducted by Arab students aboard the ISS. These experiments included projects in the fields of art, engineering, and plant science, which astronaut Peggy Whitson conducted under the supervision of Rayyanah Barnawi. The project aimed to enhance student participation in the space sector and promote innovation in the Arab world. This achievement is part of the Saudi Space Agency's efforts to enhance the Kingdom's presence in international space programs and provide a stimulating environment that contributes to supporting the knowledge economy, in line with the goals of Vision 2030. The successful return of these experiments marks a significant milestone in Arab space exploration. It underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to scientific innovation and developing emerging talent in the growing field of space sciences. Additionally, the mission aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to prepare a new generation to contribute effectively to the future of the space sector and drive the country's scientific and technological progress.
