Apple iPhone Has The Weirdest New Bug: Don't Send These iMessages
The iPhone's Messages app
Imagine, if you will, the scene: you're dictating an audio message into your iPhone Messages app. 'I've just spilled Ben & Jerry's down my Dolce & Gabbana shirt. I can't afford another, I'm going to H&M for an emergency t-shirt. Let's meet at Dave & Buster's,' you say.
You press send and all looks good at your end. Problem is, the recipient will never see it, and you may have a quiet night at Dave & Buster's waiting for them to appear.
In fact, if you could see the other phone you'd spot it doing something a bit weird, with the typing indicator on their iPhone flashing at a crazily high speed as though it was about to have a nervous breakdown. Then it would stop, with no message appearing.
It's all down to the ampersand, the one between Ben & Jerry's and the other brand names mentioned above. The issue was first spotted on the podcast Search Engine in the episode titled 'The Dave and Busters Anomaly,' named after the sports bar and restaurant chain whose title can't be transmitted. As the iPhone begins to transcribe the voice message, that's when the problem occurs.
App developer Guilherme Rambo also investigated the issue and found the same thing. Rambo's explanation of the curiosity goes like this.
'When you send an audio message using the Messages app, the message includes a transcription of the audio. If you happen to pronounce the name 'Dave and Buster's' as someone would normally pronounce it, almost like it's a single word, the transcription engine on iOS will recognize the brand name and correctly write it as 'Dave & Buster's' (with an ampersand),' he begins. So far, so good.
But there's more. 'HTML is a markup language, it uses different tags to indicate to a browser or some other program how to interpret the contents of a message. XHTML is a stricter version of HTML that's based on XML and allows custom tags, as long as the document is compatible with the XML standard. The ampersand symbol has special meaning in HTML/XHTML. It's used to indicate special characters that would normally be interpreted as code. For example, a paragraph in HTML is represented with ,' Rambo explains.
And, as MacRumors puts it: 'The parsing error triggers Apple's BlastDoor Messages feature that protects users from malicious messages that might rely on problematic parsing, so ultimately, the audio message fails to send.'
Until the bug is fixed, maybe choose different brands to mention (Haagen Dazs, J Crew, Uniqlo and McDonald's, maybe?).

The iPhone's new Snooze Duration option is the most dangerous iOS 26 feature — here's how you can try it for yourself
Since the alarm was invented, people have wanted to sleep in just a little bit longer. And so the snooze button was born. Naturally, when adding an alarm function to the original iPhone, Apple added a snooze function as well. And that hasn't really changed, until iOS 26 came to turn everything upside down. You may have noticed that when snoozing alarms on your iPhone, the snooze lasts for nine minutes, the traditional snooze length since the first mechanical alarm clocks first introduced the feature. While you could always download third-party alarm apps with deeper customization, or rely on a second, separate alarm to manage your dozing time, the iOS Clock app enforced the nine-minute snooze. But now with iOS 26, you don't have to accept this. Apple now allows users with the latest iOS to set the snooze length between 1 and 15 minutes, and on a per-alarm basis. And I am only partly joking when I say this is a dangerous update for people like me. I'm used to 9-minute snoozes, and I use them fairly regularly. But give me the option to increase my snooze time, and I'm suddenly going to be rocking up late to appointments. Or, since you have to change the snooze for each alarm separately, I'm going to end up depriving myself of a precious few minutes of extra sleep because I've forgotten to change one specific alarm. To everyone I work and meet with from now on — I apologise in advance for being late, or obviously sleep-deprived. To try this for yourself (at your own risk), follow the steps below: Pick an alarm by tapping anywhere on the alarm's listing, other than on the toggle on the right side. You won't be able to adjust a Snooze duration without the ability to snooze turned on. Not that there would be much point in making a change like that anyway. Tap the tick in the top right corner to confirm your choice, or the cross in the top left to cancel. Remember to do this for every alarm. There's no way to make a snooze duration change universally at the time of writing. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.

'Thinnest iPhone Ever': Apple Stock (NASDAQ:AAPL) Slips on Early Word of Hardware Reveals
Hardware reveals these days have been a bit of a mixed blessing for consumer electronics giant Apple (AAPL). While it is always interesting to see what Apple hath wrought this time, sometimes it just looks like a big pile of more of the same. Recent reports suggest that Apple's hardware reveal this time could feature some exciting prospects. Investors, though, took little interest, and sent Apple shares down fractionally in Friday afternoon's trading. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. The reveal event will be in just a few weeks, with September 9 slated to be the big day. Expected to appear at the event are updates for the Apple Watch, for AirPods, and the iPhone 17 lineup. In a point that demonstrates why some people are getting tired of the whole Apple phenomenon, the iPhone 17 models are expected to boast '…bigger screens and improved cameras.' One point, however, is catching particular interest ahead of the big reveal. Reports suggest that the next iPhone line could include the iPhone Air, which is set to replace the iPhone Plus line. The iPhone Air is said to be an 'ultra-thin iPhone,' which would make it Apple's '…slimmest phone ever.' The iPhone 17 is also set to get a bit of a makeover, with a 6.3 inch screen to bring it more in line with the Pro and Pro Max models. And, the iPhone 17 is also set to have a 120Hz display. That's stepped up substantially from the original 60Hz display, and that makes a huge difference in home theater circles. Whether or not it works in a smartphone display, though, is more a matter of personal taste. Apple Arcade Rolls Out New Titles But Apple is also known for its gaming chops; just ask anyone who has whiled away a few moments over Candy Crush or the like. One of the biggest arrivals is NFL Retro Bowl '26, which comes just in time for the start of football season in a few weeks. Jeopardy! Daily will also be getting a slot in the arcade, as will My Talking Tom Friends+. Perhaps the biggest update, though, will come from an old favorite that once got a mention on South Park about 15 years before it even existed: Hello Kitty Island Adventure. The new update will be out September 18, and take players off to Wheatflour Wonderland, an area packed with ruins to explore and 'stained-glass castles' to marvel at. Is Apple a Buy, Hold or Sell? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on AAPL stock based on 16 Buys, 11 Holds and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 2.98% rally in its share price over the past year, the average AAPL price target of $239.18 per share implies 3.64% upside potential.

iPhone 17 release date rumors — this could be the full schedule
Summer's winding down, and that means Apple's big annual keynote is just around the corner, promising exciting new announcements about the iPhone 17 line-up, new Apple Watches, and more. While Apple hasn't revealed the rollout's full schedule yet, the rhythm of iPhone launches feels as predictable as the turning leaves. If history serves, we have a pretty good guess when you'll be able to get your hands on a shiny new iPhone 17. Rumors suggest Apple will unveil its major fall product line-ups on September 9. If history serves, we expect the event to take place at the company's Cupertino campus, where the iPhone 17 series will be revealed. Notably, Apple's rumored to shake up the iPhone lineup this time around by replacing the Plus model with the super-thin iPhone 17 Air. In addition to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, we expect Apple to debut the Apple Watch Series 11 and possibly the Apple Watch Ultra 3. A new version of the AirPods Pro, an updated Apple TV 4K, and the long-awaited smart home hub HomePod 3 could also make an appearance. Apple event announcement date 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on August 26 iPhone 17 launch event September 9 iPhone 17, Air, and Pro available for pre-order September 12 iOS 26 release date September 15/16 iPhone 17, Air, and Pro on sale September 19 Apple's yet to confirm the keynote's official date, but trusted voices like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Forbes suggest we should hear more on that by Tuesday, August 26. That's also when invites should start rolling out via email to select members of the press. Looking at the time tables of previous iPhone generations, we're likely to see Apple open pre-orders for the iPhone 17 a few days later. Apple tends to roll out pre-orders on the Friday after the initial announcement, with sales going live the Friday after that. So if history serves, the iPhone 17 could go on sale on Friday, September 19. As for iOS 26, the latest update expected to ship with the iPhone 17, that's easy to pin down as well. Last year, Apple pushed out iOS 18 on September 16, exactly one week after its annual keynote and four days before the iPhone 16 series went on sale. If Apple follows the same pattern, we can expect iOS 26 to arrive on either Monday, September 15, or Tuesday, September 16. We don't have long to wait until we learn more. All signs point to Apple's iPhone 17 launch event being just a few short weeks away. Follow Tom's Guide on Google News to get our up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds.
