#SHOWBIZ: New 'Frankenstein' promises emotion, not horror

Triple Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro said his new version of 'Frankenstein' will not be a horror film, but will instead pack a high-voltage emotional punch.
The Mexican director of 'Hellboy' and 'The Shape of Water' said the new movie would not be a creature feature but one with real heart.
"I'm not making a horror movie, never," he told an event at the Cannes film festival on Sunday.
"For me, it's an incredibly emotional film, as personal as everything else I've done... It's about being a father, being a son.
"I believe emotion is the new punk." Del Toro said "people don't take risks like we do" and that there was no shame in "being extremely emotional".
The Netflix drama starring 'Saltburn' heartthrob Jacob Elordi is to be released in December.
Del Toro was speaking during a conversation with French composer Alexandre Desplat at the festival.
They have worked together on several occasions, including 'The Shape of Water' in 2017, for which they both won Oscars — Del Toro for directing and Desplat for the soundtrack.

'Riverdale' actor KJ Apa to play Hollywood legend James Stewart in upcoming biopic

Los Angeles [US], August 6 (ANI): KJ Apa is all set to portray Hollywood legend James Stewart in his next. The 'Riverdale' star has been signed on to star as the late actor in an upcoming biopic. According to Variety, the upcoming biopic will revolve around Stewart's rise in Hollywood, his Academy Award-winning work in 'The Philadelphia Story' and also his enlistment in the US Army Air Corps as a combat pilot during World War II. Not long after returning home, Stewart even worked in the 1946 film, 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Speaking about the same, KJ Apa, best known for playing Archie on the CW's 'Riverdale', expressed feeling proud of having the opportunity. 'I have always been a huge James Stewart fan and feel so honoured I get to bring his story to life. As someone from New Zealand, I've long admired that generation of American men who stood for patriotism, integrity, and a deep sense of duty. It is important to me to give back to a country that has given me so much, and what better way to do that than by honouring a man who served it with great honour?' he told Variety. Titled 'Jimmy', the biopic will be directed by Aaron Burns and written by Justin Strawhand. James Stewart's daughter, Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, will serve as the executive producer. Director Burns described the Oscar-winning actor as 'universally beloved,' further adding that his life will make an amazing film. 'Jimmy Stewart is universally beloved as an actor. He truly embodied the everyman. We all know him from 'It's A Wonderful Life,' but as I discovered his real-life story as a World War II military hero, I realised Jimmy's life makes for an amazing movie,' he said. Besides Apa, the film will also feature Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Sarah Drew, Julian Works, and Jen Lilley in key roles. James Stewart passed away in 1997 at the age of 89. (ANI)

Pamela Anderson: 'Yes, Sylvester Stallone tried to seduce me with a Porsche'

Canadian-US actress Pamela Anderson revealed Stallone's offer in her 2023 Netflix documentary, 'Pamela, A Love Story'. Photo: AFP Pamela Anderson has hit back at Sylvester Stallone for denying her claim that he once tried to woo her and make her his 'No. 1 girl' by offering to buy her a condo and a Porsche. Anderson stuck to her story about Stallone while appearing on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen Sunday. Seated next to her new boyfriend, Liam Neeson, her co-star in the cop-drama spoof The Naked Gun , Anderson played along with Cohen's game in which the host asked her to respond to media reports about her. Cohen explained that Anderson, 58, revealed Stallone's offer in her 2023 Netflix documentary, Pamela, A Love Story . As Anderson nodded, Cohen then said Stallone, 79, allegedly asked the former Baywatch star to be his 'No. 1 girl' in exchange for buying her a condo and a luxury sports car. In her documentary, Anderson also had said she rejected Stallone's offer by quipping: 'Does that mean there's a No. 2 girl?' Stallone allegedly replied to her rejection by saying: 'That's the best offer you're gonna get, honey. You're in Hollywood now.' Cohen then asked Anderson: 'What was your reaction to Stallone coming out after the doc was released and saying this was a falsehood?' Anderson laughed, shook her head, rolled her eyes said, 'Well, how could you make that up? You know?' 'Right!' Cohen replied, as Anderson looked to Neeson, then laughed again and said, 'That was pretty specific.' Cohen then asked Anderson whether there was a 'different car' that might have changed her mind about dating the Rocky legend. 'Maybe, like, a Shelby Cobra,' Anderson joked, before repeating 'no' several times. Neeson, meanwhile, laughed along before admitting to Cohen that he was yet to offer his new girlfriend a car. And while Anderson said she turned down action-star Stallone's affair offer, it was reported last week that she and Neeson, a late-career action star with the Taken movies, are dating. Indeed, their affection for each other was pretty evident on Cohen's show as the Irish actor reached out to touch Anderson's shoulder, and she sweetly patted his hand. A source told Us Weekly that Anderson and Neeson 'always had chemistry while they were filming The Naked Gun , and their friendship naturally developed into more.' This source also said the new couple are 'learning how to navigate (a romance) together' as they continue their whirlwind publicity tour for The Naked Gun , a reboot of the hit comedy franchise from the late 1980s and early 1990s. 'They are both shy and have tried to stay private, but the spark between them is obvious,' the source added. It was reported last week that Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson are dating. Photo: Reuters Meanwhile, Stallone's representative was adamant in denying Anderson's claims that he tried to buy her love and attention. 'The statement from Pamela Anderson attributed to my client is false and fabricated,' the rep said in a statement in 2023. 'Mr Stallone confirms that he never made any portion of that statement.' – Mercury News/Tribune News Service
