Ukrainian woman and daughter murdered in Belgium, crime scene set on fire
Two Ukrainians – a 46-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter – have been found dead in a residential building in the Belgian town of Haasrode. Both victims had stab wounds and the crime scene was deliberately set on fire.

Details: According to the report, the tragedy occurred on Friday morning in the house of a priest on Milsestraat in Haasrode, near Oud-Heverlee. The fire service received a call about a fire in the house at about 09:30. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the windows of the apartment on the ground floor. The fire was successfully contained at approximately 10:20.
Bodies of the woman and her daughter were found during the inspection of the apartment. The mother was already dead when the firefighters arrived. The child was resuscitated but later died from her injuries.
The investigators reported that both deceased had stab wounds. Early findings by the fire expert indicated that the fire was deliberate.
"This is a Ukrainian family who have lived in our country for three years. The girl's father is fighting on the line of contact in Ukraine. The woman also had a 16-year-old son, who was at school at the time of the fire. He is currently being looked after," the report stated.

South Zanesville business heavily damaged by electrical fire
ZANESVILLE – A South Zanesville business wasn't a total loss after a June 6 fire, but it did receive an estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of damage. The front portion of the Kelly Architectural Services building, located at 2960 Pinkerton Road, caught fire early in the morning, as the first responding fire departments, South Zanesville and Newton Township arrived at around 2:42 a.m. The fire had started working toward the building's back portion and spread into the main part of the business, and up into the second story, according to Russell Taylor, the South Zanesville Fire Department chief. One firefighter started closing doors to contain the fire better and first attacked it from the front. As more arrived, responders pincered the fire from the back, basement, and upper level. It was extinguished after about 40 minutes, Taylor noted. The building's front part will likely have to be torn down now, Russell added. He estimated at least $200,000 worth of damage and future repairs. No one was injured. The South Zanesville Fire Department ruled the cause as electrical, Taylor said. The fire was believed to have been generated from a piece of IT equipment, similar to a power strip. The fire is still under investigation by Kelly's insurance company. Washinton Township and Zanesville city Engines 1 and 2 and Ladder 1 also responded, along with Genesis Community Ambulance. Roseville's fire department was also dispatched. In total, around 24 firefighters worked on the scene. Passau ramming suspect charged with attempted manslaughter
The Iraqi national suspected of driving his car into a crowd of people in Passau, southern Germany, will face charges of attempted manslaughter, police said on Sunday. The incident on Saturday evening left five people injured, including the man's wife and 5-year-old daughter. Initial findings, according to the police, indicate that the 48-year-old and his wife may have been engaged in a custody dispute. The man and his wife are reportedly separated, the police said. Exchange of fallen soldiers' bodies expected next week, official says
The exchange of the bodies of deceased soldiers, agreed upon during Ukraine-Russia negotiations in Istanbul on June 2, is scheduled for next week, Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine's military intelligence chief (HUR), said on June 8. "The start of repatriation measures following the negotiations in Istanbul is scheduled for next week, as authorized persons were informed on Tuesday (June 3)," Budanov posted on Telegram. Budanov's statement comes just a day after Russia claimed that a prisoner swap had failed due to Ukraine's fault — an accusation Kyiv denied. Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War (POW) said on June 7 that preparations for the exchange of bodies were underway, although no specific date had been confirmed. Budanov condemned Russian propaganda efforts surrounding the matter. "The attempts of some Russian propagandists to capitalize on human suffering, which they themselves are responsible for, sound particularly cynical," he said. "Especially on the great feast of Pentecost, which we are celebrating today." On June 7, Russian media published a video showing refrigerators allegedly containing the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers, claiming they had been delivered for exchange. POW Coordination Headquarters deputy head Andrii Yusov told Ukrainian Pravda that the footage had been filmed inside Russia and not at a designated exchange site. According to Budanov, Ukraine continues to honor the terms agreed during the June 2 Istanbul talks despite mounting Russian information pressure and attempts to impose unilateral conditions. At the Istanbul meeting, both sides agreed to a new round of prisoner exchanges involving severely wounded personnel and individuals aged 18 to 25. Russia also pledged to hand over 6,000 bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers and officers. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 4 that the repatriation would follow the next POW swap. The June 2 negotiations marked the second direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, after an earlier session on May 16. While no ceasefire or political settlement was reached, both rounds led to agreements on humanitarian measures. Ukraine and Russia carried out the largest prisoner swap of the full-scale war from May 23 to 25, exchanging 1,000 captives each. Ukraine has repeatedly urged Moscow to adopt an "all-for-all" prisoner exchange formula.
