Students from Islamic University of Madinah to guide pilgrims in Hajj animal sacrifice

Arab News02-06-2025
MADINAH: Muslim students from the Islamic University of Madinah in the Hejaz Region are participating in the Hajj rituals of Hady and Adahi by offering guidance on animal sacrifice this weekend.
Some 300 students representing 40 nationalities will take part in the annual sacrifice of animals through Saudi Arabia's Project for Utilization of Hady and Adahi.
Students will educate and guide pilgrims, ensuring adherence to the Prophet's Sunnah during the performance of the rituals, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The project was established in 1983 to carry on the Hady and Adahi rituals on behalf of any Muslim, and supervise the use of Hajj meat and its distribution to the destitute.
During pilgrimage, which concludes this year on Monday, June 9, pilgrims are required to sacrifice an animal in a ritual called Hady.
Adahi is a voluntary sacrifice for non-pilgrim Muslims which takes place on the day of Eid Al-Adha.
In collaboration with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, the student initiative aims to supervise the rituals according to Islamic law, the SPA added.

World's best: Riyadh hospital completes 10 kidney transplants in 48 hours

RIYADH: The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre this week set a world record by performing 10 kidney exchange transplants in just 48 hours. The achievement coincided with World Organ Donation Day, which falls on Aug. 13 and aims to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation. Dr. Ehab Abufarhaneh, deputy executive director of the hospital's Organ Transplant Center of Excellence, told Arab News: 'KFSHRC performed the kidney exchange transplants over two consecutive days setting a global record. This happened with a great team led by Dr. Khaled Almashary and Ali of the department of kidney and pancreas transplant. 'This initiative opens a door for many patients who have no suitable donor.' The KFSHRC said the record was for the highest number of such procedures conducted within a two-day span at a single center. 'This milestone reinforces the hospital's position as a global leader in organ transplantation. It also reflects its high clinical readiness, the seamless coordination of its multidisciplinary medical teams and the advanced systems for managing donor-recipient matching, alongside its extensive experience in executing complex transplant procedures,' it said. Paired kidney transplantation is an innovative approach where two or more incompatible donor-recipient pairs swap kidneys to achieve compatible transplants. The process significantly improves compatibility rates and offers hope to patients who face challenges in finding a suitable match within their families. Last year, the KFSHRC celebrated another milestone with the completion of its 500th transplant since the program was launched in 2011. Since the creation of its organ transplantation program in 1981, it has successfully performed more then 5,000 kidney transplants, placing it among an elite group of global transplant centers. Last year it conducted 80 pediatric kidney transplants, more than any other facility in the world for the period. By leveraging its skilled workforce, advanced technologies and the integration of research and clinical programs, the KFSHRC aims to deliver world-class treatment while enhancing the Kingdom's position as a leader in organ transplantation. In 2023 and 2024 it ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region and 15th globally on the list of the world's top 250 academic medical centers and was last year recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East by Brand Finance rankings. It also ranked among the world's 250 best hospitals in 2024 and was included in Newsweek magazine's list of best smart hospitals for 2025.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia marked International Youth Day on Tuesday, highlighting a number of initiatives supporting the country's young population. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development inaugurated a new Youth Development Award, which received more than 300 submissions. 'Through this award, we seek to motivate all parties to empower our youth, who have proven to be the nation's true wealth and the leaders of its development journey,' ministry spokesperson Mohammed Al-Rizqi told Arab News. On Tuesday, the General Authority for Statistics revealed statistics from 2024 that showed 69.4% of the population of Saudi Arabia is now under the age of 35. The International Islamic Youth Symposium also issued a statement affirming the Kingdom's achievements in supporting young people. It praised the country's programs and initiatives aimed at supporting young people and setting them up for successful careers. 'On International Youth Day, we take pride in the efforts and achievements of Saudi youth, celebrating their pivotal role in realizing national aspirations,' said Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Ahmed Al-Rajhi in a post on X. 'And because our youth are a treasure, we at @HRSD_SA strive to develop young people, enhance their community participation and build their capabilities to be influential locally and globally.' Young people between the ages of 15 and 39 make up the largest percentage of the Kingdom's population. To support and empower this segment of the population, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development organizes a number of activities and workshops as part of its Youth Development Strategy launched in 2024. The ministry also set up the General Directorate of Youth Development to provide vocational training and volunteer opportunities. A professional certification program recently qualified 100 male and female workers in various fields. International Youth Day is celebrated by more than 150 countries around the world. It was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1999, and this year's theme is 'Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,' which highlights the role of youth in advancing sustainable development.

Beyond his operational skills, he served as an outstanding representative for his country, volunteering to lead Eid Al-Fitr celebrations and fostering an understanding of Islamic culture within a diverse environment. Selfless, professional, humble and gracious, he proved himself a natural leader and role model for all cadets on the commissioning course. 'This is a magnificent achievement by Prince Saud,' Wilde said. 'To be the first Saudi to win this prestigious award is appropriate recognition of the determination, courage and talent he has demonstrated throughout some of the most demanding leadership training in the world.
