(AP Photo/Ashley Landis) Reigning world champion 100-meter sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Richardson was charged Sunday with fourth degree domestic violence, according to the police report obtained by The Associated Press. On Thursday, she ran in the opening round the women's 100 meters at U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. She has an automatic bye to the world championships in September in Tokyo as the defending champion. "USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter," USA Track and Field said in a statement. Richardson's agent did not immediately reply to an email request for comment.
The police report said an officer at the airport was notified by a Transportation Security Administration supervisor of a disturbance between the 25-year-old Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman.
The officer reviewed camera footage and observed Richardson reach out with her left arm and grab Coleman's backpack and yank it away. Richardson then appeared to get in Coleman's way with Coleman trying to step around her. Coleman was shoved into a wall. The report later said that Richardson appeared to throw an item at Coleman, which the TSA indicated may have been headphones. In the police report, the officer said: "I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim." Richardson won the 100 at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and finished with the silver at the Paris Games last summer.
She had a positive positive marijuana test at the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials and didn't compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

Wrestling World Championship selection trials: Aman Sehrawat headlines men's squad

Paris Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat was hardly challenged in the World Championship selection trials while Sujeet Kalkal put on display tremendous counter-attacking skills to lock his place in the national side in the men's freestyle 65kg weight category, here on Monday. Next month's World Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, will be Sehrawat's only second international event since he won a bronze in the French capital in 2024. The 22-year old Sehrawat settled for a bronze at the Mongolia Ranking Series event in June to make a comeback to competitive wrestling. On Monday, he looked sharper than what was on show in Mongolia. The only points he lost to Sumit in his opening bout were push-out points as his double-leg attacks gave him complete control of the match. He won by technical superiority within the first period. The 57kg final against Rahul also turned out to be a lopsided affair as Sehrawat again won by technical superiority and this time without conceding a point. Sehrawat had Rahul in a head-lock position in the beginning, getting on the scoreboard with a push-out point. A right leg-attack led to a two-pointer takedown. ALSO READ | Women's squad for Wrestling World Championship Sehrawat moved very fast on the court. His moves were clear and he did not let Rahul make any move on him, finishing the final with authority. 'I feel I am back to my best. My fitness is good and my rhythm is also back, I am ready for World Championship,' Sehrawat told PTI. 'I understand that I made a few mistakes in the Mongolia Ranking Series but that was my first competition after one year. I feel I didn't do that bad, I was even leading 11-6, but I will take that defeat (in Mongolia) in my stride,' he said. Aman has not yet won a senior World Championship medal. He has won medals at the 2022 Asian Games (bronze), and 2023 Asian Championship (gold). The competition in the men's freestyle 65kg was fierce and in the end it was Sujeet who emerged the winner. From the level he was playing a year back, the youngster from Charkhi Dadri looked completely transformed. His compact defense against both Anuj (10-0) and Vishal Kaliraman (8-4) stood out as he turned adverse positions into point-scoring opportunities with some intense counter-attacking moves. There was a vacuum in the men's 65 kg class since star wrestler Bajrang Punia stopped competing in the category and Kalkal is gradually shaping well to make this weight class his own. His mat movement and speed has improved a lot. 'We have worked on his strength in the last one year. With age, he has got power as well. He had an ankle injury some time back and he used the time to improve on his strength,' said his father and coach, Dayanand Kalkal. ALSO READ | How a missed chance became motivation: Sujeet Kalkal's rise in wrestling 'His defence was already good; we needed to work on his attack which was a bit loose, I would say. It has got better,' he added. 'His resistance power has also improved. It will only get better,' remarked coach Kuldeep Sehrawat, who also worked on him at his akhada in Sonepat. Deepak Punia, who has moved to 92kg after competing in 86kg in the Tokyo Olympics, also locked his place in the national side with dominant wins. The ketli pehalwan needed only 73 seconds to down Manjeet (SSCB) before he prevailed over Haryana's Sachin. Mukul Dahiya, who qualified for the U20 World Championship, succeeded in making the senior squad too in the 86kg category. His wins over Sachin Jaglan (technical superiority) and Ashish (7-2) showed that he will be a good prospect for India in future. Also making an impression was Haryana's Amit, who trains at Army Sports Institute in Pune. His fast-paced moves and tremendous movement on the mat got him a place in the Indian side in the 79kg category. His four-pointers against Parvinder were a delight to watch. He suffered a knee injury in the final against Services' Chander Mohan but prevailed 9-6. Surprisingly, Chander Mohan did not attack much despite seeing that his rival was struggling to move after twisting his left knee. The 74kg category was a one-bout affair with only two entries received. Jaideep claimed a place with a 12-6 win despite suffering a bad knee injury. Rohit, who used to compete in 65kg, sealed his place in the 70kg, beating Sidharth (6-2), and Sagar (6-1). He got a walkover from Ashwani. Talented Udit (61kg), Vickey (97kg) and Rajat (125kg) were the other wrestlers to make the freestyle squad. 'Sujeet beat Russian and Kazakhstan wrestlers in Hungary. He has come up very fast. He clears tricky bouts like Sushil used to do. He will be an Olympic medal contender,' said India coach Vinod Kumar. 'Udit is also emerging fast. He has transitioned well from juniors to senior level. He is young, and does not get intimidated by big names. In the coming years he will also be a great prospect for India,' he added. Wrestlers selected for World Championship 57kg - Aman Sehrawat 61kg - Udit 65kg - Sujeet Kalkal 70kg - Rohit 74kg - Jaideep 79kg - Amit 86kg - Mukul Dahiya 92kg - Deepak Punia 97kg - Vickey 125kg - Rajat

Sunil Gavaskar, Cheteshwar Pujara forget they have to be neutral as rapturous scenes erupt after Siraj's KO blow at Oval

Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara were all elated in the commentary box after India edged past England in a nail-biting thriller at the Oval to level the five-match series 2-2. Mohammed Siraj rose to the occasion when India's back was against the wall and delivered at the big stage with a brilliant five-wicket haul. The 31-year-old led the Indian pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and claimed nine wickets across two innings. Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara drop all pretence of neutrality after Siraj's knockout blow seals a thrilling win at The Oval. (Screengrab and AP Images) India were four wickets away when the early stumps were called on Day 4 due to rain. The pressure was on the visitors when they returned to the middle on Day 5 to get those four wickets. Rising to the occasion, Mohammed Siraj led from the front, grabbing three of those crucial scalps, including the final wicket of Gus Atkinson with a searing yorker that shattered the off-stump. His fiery spell powered India to a series-levelling 2-2 finish against England. Gavaskar was in the commentary box with Harsha Bhogle and Cheteshwar Pujara when Siraj uprooted Atkinson's off-stump. As Bhogle called the moment on the mic, Gavaskar was on his feet, clapping and applauding, while Pujara was all pumped up as the duo forgot to be neutral after Team India's incredible fightback to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Earlier, after the play on Day 3, Gavsakr gifted Gill a signed cap and shirt as a gesture of respect towards the youngster's performance in the series, where he scored 754 runs in five Tests. "I have got a gift for you in anticipation of you going past (me). At least you got something to aim for in the next series. It is just a little gift. It is a shirt with SG initials, someone made it for me, I am giving this to you, but I don't know if it will fit you. This is a cap which I give to very few people with my signature. All the best," Gavaskar said in a video posted on Sony Sports' Instagram. Siraj runs riot on Day 5 to pin England Meanwhile, England began the final day of the series needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand to pull off a stunning chase of 374. However, under intense pressure, they crumbled in a gripping morning session as Siraj ripped through the tail, claiming three wickets for just nine runs to finish with 5 for 104. It was a thrilling end to a series that delivered non-stop drama over seven unforgettable weeks.

UK injects 100 million pounds to boost border security

AP Britain's Prime Minister Keir Starmer The UK on Monday announced that it will invest 100 million pounds as part of its efforts to control soaring illegal migration. The new funding is earmarked for up to 300 extra National Crime Agency (NCA) officers, state-of-the-art detection technology and new equipment targeting criminal networks behind people smuggling, the Home Office said. The NCA's Border Security Command and other law enforcement agencies will benefit from a cash injection to strengthen investigations targeting smuggling kingpins and disrupt their operations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and beyond, it funding package will go towards supporting a new pilot of the "one-in, one-out" UK returns agreement, which will see migrants who arrive illegally on small boats returned to will also support the new powers to be introduced when the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill becomes law, criminalising the creation and publication of online material that promotes a breach of immigration law. "This additional funding will strengthen every aspect of our plan, and will turbo-charge the ability of our law enforcement agencies to track the gangs and bring them down, working with our partners overseas, and using state-of-the-art technology and equipment," said UK Home Secretary Yvette Labour Party minister accused the previous Conservative Party government of allowing small boat smuggling gangs to embed their criminal trade across the English Channel, putting lives at risk with dangerous migrant crossings."They must not be allowed to get away with this vile crime. That is why this government has developed a serious and comprehensive plan to dismantle their business model, from disrupting their supply chains across the European continent to clamping down on their illegal working operations here in the UK," said new investment package unveiled this week is aimed at enabling more intelligence to be gathered on organised immigration crime gang members and support "upstream capacity building" by intensifying efforts in transit countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia to target organised immigration hi-tech surveillance capabilities and AI-assisted intelligence and data analysis tools as well as the implementation of extended police powers to seize and download digital devices to gather evidence and intelligence, are among the government's priorities. "We currently have 91 investigations ongoing into the most dangerous people smuggling networks impacting the UK, and are working with partners at home and abroad to target, disrupt and dismantle them. This additional funding will help boost our capacity and capability, enabling us to target more offenders," said Rob Jones, NCA Director General. The agency reported that in 2024-25, it achieved 351 NCA-led disruptions of organised immigration crime networks and activity - its highest level on record - and a 40 per cent increase on the previous financial year. Last week, it announced the agency's biggest people-smuggling raid and seizure of boat engines in added investment is expected to build on this to arrest and prosecute major smuggling gang leaders and the seizure of more small boats and investment comes as the latest statistics revealed more than 25,000 migrants made dangerous small boat crossings to enter the UK illegally last month, marking a new record for July. The government also plans a clampdown on student visas to stop migrants using the study route as a way to enter the UK legally and later claim asylum. It will see UK universities face stricter rules around course completion rates to maintain their ability to sponsor visas for foreign students, who typically pay higher fees than domestic students.
