Southern produced a dominant display against Lee Man to be crowned 2025 Sapling Cup champions after a dominant 4-0 win at the Mong Kok Stadium on Thursday.
The victory earned Southern their second trophy in the club's history.
It was a repeat of the final of two years ago, when Southern prevailed 2-0 against the same opponents.
Southern opened the scoring in the 25th minute through midfielder Jonatan Acosta, before goals from Stefan Pereira and Kessi Isac secured a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
Sohgo Ichikawa upped Southern's advantage in the 67th minute to seal the victory.
Lee Man were not without their chances, but they failed to create any meaningful opportunities with shots hitting the bar and post several times.
The Sapling Cup, which was founded in 2015, allows younger players to gain more experience at the top level.

HK beaten 1-0 by national team in E Asian championship
HK beaten 1-0 by national team in E Asian championship China come third in the tournament thanks to the 1-0 win, while Hong Kong, China finish fourth. Photo courtesy of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China Hong Kong, China, on Tuesday suffered a 1-0 defeat to the national team at an East Asian football tournament, meaning they finished last among four teams in the competition in South Korea. Midfielder Huang Zhengyu's shot from the right wing in the 20th minute was the difference in the tightly-contested affair at the EAFF E-1 Championship. China, ranked 94th in the world, came close to extending the lead later. A shot by striker Zhang Yuning hit the bar. Minutes later, winger Wang Yudong's effort from close range needed a finger-tip save by Hong Kong, China captain and goalkeeper Edmond Yapp, which then came off the post. The national team also had two goals disallowed. China's caretaker head coach, Dejan Djurdjevic, who only took over less than three weeks ago, said he's happy with the result. "We deserved to win... we scored one goal and after that, we had many, many good opportunities to finish [off] the game, we were unlucky," he said after the match. "The approach of the players was very good." Hong Kong, China's head coach Ashley Westwood said the tournament in South Korea was an eye-opening experience for his squad. "We're satisfied with the desire and commitment the players showed – obviously we're not satisfied with losing, we never are," he said. "We have to take lessons. We've improved throughout the tournament, we only conceded one goal [this time]." The SAR finished the tournament with three straight defeats, after losses of 1-6 to Japan and 0-2 to South Korea.

SAR gear up for East Asian championship finale
SAR gear up for East Asian championship finale Ashley Westwood says he wants to win every match. Photo courtesy of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China Leon Jones said he's ready to play his third international game in eight days. Photo courtesy of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China Hong Kong, China will be looking for a breakthrough at an East Asian football tournament when they face the national team on Tuesday. The SAR have lost all their matches at the EAFF E-1 Championship since it began in 2003. This year, both the SAR and the national teams lost to hosts South Korea and Japan and will be battling for third place. The last time the two teams played each other, Hong Kong, China, defeated the national team 2-1 in a closed-door friendly on New Year's Day last year when the sides were preparing for the Asian Cup. "Of course we want to make history, but anybody who knows me knows that I want to win every single game I play," head coach Ashley Westwood said. "It makes no difference to me whether it's China, Chinese Taipei, Brazil, France, England, I don't care who we play." Westwood will be without star left-back Shinichi Chan, who was recalled by his club Shanghai Shenhua. Meanwhile, centre-back Leon Jones said he's thankful that so many Hong Kong supporters travelled to South Korea for the matches. He said the SAR team are very proud of "the sea of red" when they see the fans in the stands. Jones also said playing three matches in eight days was not a problem for him. "Obviously, most of the players in the squad have been coming back from the off-season, which is different from players from the other sides," he said. "But I feel my condition's pretty good. Playing in two 90-minute games in such a short space of time is tiring, but it's normal at this level of football." Kickoff is set for 3pm on Tuesday Hong Kong time, before South Korea face Japan at 6.24pm for the title. The Japanese only need a draw to win the tournament on goal difference.

The Hong Kong football coach hoping to lead Chinese Taipei to 2027 World Cup
Chan Hiu-ming watched his Chinese Taipei team give China a fright, then spelled out his ambition to break new ground as the first Hongkonger to coach at a World Cup. The team ranked 42nd in the world battled back from 2-0 down in Hwaseong on Sunday, before a pair of late goals spared China's blushes and earned them a 4-2 East Asian Football Championship victory. Chan said that when he took over, in May 2023, he inherited a 'passive team' who against the best sides tried 'for an acceptable defeat'. he said. 'Now, we try to play with the ball, press and force mistakes,' the 50-year-old added. The former Lee Man boss had been planning a break after leaving the Hong Kong Premier League club in early 2023, but the opportunity to coach at international level proved irresistible, especially when it involved a side that came within a penalty shoot-out of reaching the last World Cup. 'In men's football, I wouldn't be able to touch this … I'm helping players grow, and fight against top-20 teams,' Chan, who has won 13 and lost 13 of 27 games in charge, said. 'The potential for a World Cup was the original motivation for me to join. It's what the girls are dreaming of, and it's not mission impossible.'
