J-K: Kala Manch performs a stage play against drug addiction

India Gazette5 hours ago

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 25 (ANI): In a bid to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse among youth in the Kashmir Valley, prominent theatre group Kashmir Kala Manch staged a powerful play titled Ze Kadam Kaethes Taam (translated as Do Kadam Faansi Tak) at Tagore Hall in Srinagar.
The performance, delivered in the Kashmiri language, drew significant attention from young audiences and was lauded for its compelling message and strong performances.
The play addresses the rising menace of drug abuse in the Kashmir Valley, driven by factors like unemployment, family disputes, and life challenges.
Directed by theatre practitioner Hakeem Javaid, the play offers a realistic and emotional portrayal of individuals affected by substance abuse, showcasing its devastating impact on families and society.
Javaid said, 'It's time to contribute something more to theatre. But looking at today's situation, the atmosphere we are living in, you're also living in, just like I am, so you know where today's youth are headed. I feel it's important to show them both paths, there are a lot of walnuts stuck on the tree--I'm throwing stones from here. All the fruits don't need to fall with just one stone. Maybe I'll need to throw one, two, three... maybe even ten stones. But still, we will keep trying.'
Tariq Jameel shared that playing his role was about serving society, not personal gain, and thanked director Hakeem Javed for his vision.
'The biggest thing is that everyone in this universe--every person in this world--whatever work they want to do, they often look for what they can gain from it. But when I read this role, and the way director Hakeem Javed Sahab explained it to me, I completely let go of all thoughts of personal gain. I realised that this character is a powerful medium to serve society. Truly, it's a beautiful opportunity--I was given a platform to do something meaningful for the community. That's what made this role so enjoyable for me. Through it, I got the chance to represent those people who are disappointed with life or who have gone astray, whether because of family problems, unemployment, or any other struggle,' Jameel said.
Anab Khan, a student, praised the play for its informative portrayal of drug abuse, a growing issue, and emphasised the importance of such performances in spreading awareness and protecting future generations.
'This play was highly informative, and we gained a lot of knowledge from it. It was especially focused on drug abuse, which is a growing problem today. The damage it causes is increasing day by day. So, as much as possible, we should watch such plays and give them the importance they deserve so that awareness spreads among people, the future generation can be protected, and actions can be taken against such issues,' Anab Khan, a student, said
He added, 'The key point is that if we receive important information through theatre, it becomes highly meaningful for society. We need more and more such good plays to be performed regularly, and this information should be widely spread among people.'
Beenish a performing artist praised the play, highlighting theatre's potential as a powerful medium for communication and awareness, especially among youth, using engaging storytelling to convey important messages like the dangers of drug abuse.
She said, 'Personally speaking, this is one of my favourite plays, because I know how much hard work went into it. Hats off to all the members of the group. I would just like to say that today; theatre should become a way of communication--just like it was used in the old days. Back then, it was a medium to communicate messages, and even now, it can be used in that way. It's a fun and engaging method to spread awareness, and I believe it can both attract and inspire youngsters.'
She said that theatre can be a guiding force for Kashmir's youth and that using humour to convey a message was 'excellent.'
'Theatre can guide the youth, especially when so many people today are drawn more toward entertainment and social media. Picking a topic like drug abuse and conveying it in this kind of engaging, fun manner is a great way to send a message. I think it's an excellent way to show teenagers and young people the right path, using a format they relate to,' she continued. (ANI)

Aap Jaisa Koi trailer out: R Madhavan, Fatima Sana Shaikh love story to battle patriarchy in this romantic drama

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 25 (ANI): The makers of R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh starrer 'Aap Jaisa Koi' have finally released the trailer of the film on Wednesday. Set to stream on OTT giant Netflix, to see Madhavan and Fatima Shaikh in a romantic-comedy has created a much hype ever since the makers released the movie's first look a few months ago. Taking to his Instagram handle, actor R Madhavan shared the trailer for the film, which features a unique chemistry between him and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Starring Madhavan as Shrirenu, a reserved Sanskrit teacher, and Fatima Shaikh as Madhu, a spirited French instructor, 'Aap Jaisa Koi' brings together two opposites in a story that's as much about family and belonging as it is about romance. According to the trailer, the movie is about the love between a couple who must overcome obstacles stemming from different cultures and ideologies. The Netflix film features Madhavan as Shrirenu Tripathi, who has been raised in a rigid Jamshedpur-based family led by patriarchs who abide by a set of rules and regulations for women. Situations take a downturn when Madhavan falls in love with Fatima. Fatima hails from an independent family and believes in speaking her mind, objecting to the systemic condition of women being forced to follow rather than lead. The movie features the collision of two contrasting ideologies, leaving the couple heartbroken as their love suffers. Take a look at their trailer, The film is directed by Vivek Soni. The filmmaker says that 'Aap Jaisa Koi' is set to showcase a modern romance which highlights the need for real connections in today's world. "Aap Jaisa Koi is a film about breaking free from the walls we build around ourselves. It's about embracing the awkwardness and vulnerability of love. Working with Netflix again after Meenakshi Sundareshwar has been a fulfilling experience, and I'm excited to present a love story that's tender, messy, and intimate, one that embraces vulnerability without losing its charm and breeziness. It quietly questions the roles we fall into in relationships and reflects the quiet courage it takes to truly let someone in. With R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh bringing so much heart to their roles, the film reflects the authenticity that Netflix viewers truly connect with. It's a modern romance that speaks to the need for real connections in today's world," said Vivek Soni. The movie is produced under the banner of Dharmatic Entertainments. "Disheartening and unfair": Diljit Dosanjh's manager on 'Sardaar Ji 3' controversy

New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Diljit Dosanjh's manager, Sonali Singh, shared a long note highlighting the ongoing criticism against the singer-actor for collaborating with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film 'Sardaar Ji 3'. Diljit Dosanjh is facing a massive backlash from social media, the music fraternity and Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for working with actress Aamir amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan. In a long note titled 'Always choosing love over hate,' Diljit's Manager, Sonali, wrote that the recent criticism surrounding the Punjabi film 'Sardaar Ji 3' is both 'disheartening' and 'unfair.' 'This recent wave of criticism surrounding his upcoming Punjabi film Sardaar Ji, due to the presence of a Pakistani co-star, is both disheartening and unfair, especially considering the timing and the nature of the project. The film was shot long before the current political climate intensified,' wrote Sonali Singh. Earlier, in a clarification note by the makers of 'Sardaar Ji 3', the White Hill Studios claimed that the shooting and casting of 'Sardaar Ji 3' were completed before tensions arose between India and Pakistan. Diljit's manager further wrote that the film is funded by the producers' 'personal life savings,' which are at risk of being 'wiped out entirely' due to the ongoing demands against its release. 'This is yet another project where innocent families of the producers are involved, created and funded with personal life savings, and made to uplift the regional film industry. To attempt to derail this release now is to undermine not just one actor, but an entire creative ecosystem. It's not a film backed by a giant corporate house that can absorb the blow of massive losses. This is someone's life's earnings, and it's at risk of being wiped out entirely,' wrote Singh. On Tuesday, responding to the backlash, the makers of the 'Sardaar Ji 3' announced that they won't release the film or any of its promotional content in India until the situation becomes 'opportune', read the Instagram post of White Hill Studios (Sardaar Ji 3 Makers). Citing this decision, Sonali Singh wrote in her note that Diljit has taken this step out of respect for 'public sentiment' and 'authorities', despite the significant personal and professional cost, to mitigate losses for those involved. 'Diljit has chosen to respect the sentiments of the Indian public and authorities. He is not releasing the film in India, standing in alignment with the nation's current mood, showing once again that he honours the decisions of his own country even at a personal and professional cost,' wrote Sonali Singh. Manager Sonali also questioned the netizens' alleged hypocrisy of celebrating Diljit's global achievements while simultaneously questioning his patriotism and belonging within India. 'On one hand, the global media celebrates him as the first Indian to perform at Coachella, to appear on Jimmy Fallon carrying his Traditional Identity, to walk the Met Gala carrying his culture & roots. And every single time, he proudly carries India with on the other hand, in his own country, how quickly we forget. How conveniently we celebrate him when he puts India on the map, and how easily we trash him when the narrative turns,' wrote Sonali Singh. Sonali Singh posted the long note on her Instagram handle on Wednesday. Amid a storm surrounding his collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh also took to social media with a cryptic message on Tuesday. Diljit shared a cryptic post on Instagram that read, 'Censored before release?'The post was about the long-awaited film 'Punjab 95', which was delayed due to censorship issues. The film, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, tells the story of Khalra, known for uncovering human rights violations during Punjab's militancy era. Meanwhile, on Monday, Diljit shared the trailer of the horror-comedy franchise on his Instagram and announced that the film will be released exclusively overseas on June 27. Diljit captioned the trailer post: 'Sardaar Ji 3 releasing 27th June OVERSEAS only. FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN.'The trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3' is currently not on YouTube India but has been shared by Diljit on his Instagram page. (ANI)
