Floods in Romania kill three, hundreds evacuated
Some 25 villages across nine counties were affected by heavy rain and high winds, which tore off roofs and uprooted trees, blocking traffic on some national roads, according to the emergency response agency.
It released footage showing wooden houses and cars swept away by the floodwaters, with rescue workers checking vehicles for potential victims.
The worst hit were Neamt and Suceava counties in eastern Romania, where two rivers burst their banks, killing a 66-year-old man and forcing hundreds of people to evacuate. All access roads to the village of Brosteni in Suceava county were blocked.
The emergency response agency later said that two women, an 85- and an 83-year-old, were also victims of the flood. Firefighters had to use an excavator to retrieve one of the bodies from a riverbed.
The Environment Ministry's water management agency said some rivers rose to record high water levels. Repair works on collapsed bridges were underway, it said.

Also on Sunday, SES crews responded managed to save a 40-year-old man who was stuck in a tree due to floodwater. The man was swept out of the tree but rescuers followed him in the water and managed to pull him to shore, and he was taken to hospital. Both sides of the nation were facing wild weather, with high winds and storms expected in Western Australia and soggy conditions and flooding continuing for northern NSW. Tens of thousands of households in the eastern state spent a night without power as heavy rain, floods and unprecedented snow wreaked havoc. Multiple fires reported across heathland in Studland
Multiple fires have been reported on heathland in and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said it was receiving a "high number of calls relating to fires in the open across the Studland area".Areas affected include Newton Heath, Middlebere Heath, Decoy Heath and fire service is urging anyone who sees an incident not in these locations to dial 999. Crews from 19 stations are responding to the various incidents.A spokesperson said: "We want to reassure everyone that we are in attendance and firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fires." CANBERRA, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Several towns in eastern Australia were blanketed with their thickest layer of snow in decades as wild weather swept the area this weekend, causing floods, stranding vehicles and cutting power to thousands of homes, authorities said. About 50 cm (20 inches) of snow had been forecast to fall on Saturday in some areas, with more than 10 cm of rain expected in others, the New South Wales State Emergency Service said. Conditions were easing on Sunday. Parts of the state's New England North West region received their deepest snow in 20 years, state broadcaster Australian Broadcasting Corp reported, while the Sydney Morning Herald said an area of the neighbouring state of Queensland had its first snow in 10 years.
