Arlington police investigate shooting that left 2 dead, 1 injured
Two men are dead, and a third is injured in a late-night shooting in Arlington.
The shooting happened in the 5600 block of S. Cooper Street just after 10 p.m.
The suspected gunman was at the scene when police arrived and was quickly detained, police officials said.
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Arlington Police Department is investigating a late-night shooting that ended with the deaths of two men and injured a third.
What we know
Arlington Police say they were called to the 5600 block of S. Cooper Street just after 10 p.m. for a report of a shooting.
When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man with gunshot wounds lying unresponsive in the parking lot. They were both taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead from their injuries.
The 20-year-old has been identified as Omed Abdal, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. The medical examiner reports Abdal died in the hospital emergency room.
Officers also found a 19-year-old who was shot in the foot. He was taken to the hospital and has since been treated and released.
Investigators say many people involved in the shooting, including the suspected gunman, were still at the scene when police arrived. They were quickly detained, police say.
Witnesses told police the two groups got into a fight in the parking lot. During the fight, police say 17-year-old Saman Islam got a gun from a vehicle and fired multiple rounds.
Police say they are unsure about what started the fight.
Islam was arrested and booked into the Arlington City Jail. He is facing charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond has not been set.

The investigation is ongoing.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office has not released the name of the 19-year-old victim.

'DNA profiles matching Paityn, Evelyn and Olivia Decker were also located on the plastic bags. No other DNA profiles were obtained from the plastic bags.' Regarding the cable ties found at the scene, the police department added, 'One DNA profile was obtained from the cable ties collected at the scene. That DNA sample matched the profile for Travis Decker. No other DNA profiles were obtained from the cable ties.' The sheriff's office, who has previously described Travis, 32, as "well versed in wilderness survival and capable of spending days or even weeks in the wilderness on his own and with very little equipment,' also confirmed that their search efforts for the army veteran continue. NYC police charge mother in deaths of newborn twins found behind building in 2020
NEW YORK -- A 36-year-old woman was charged Friday in the deaths of newborn twins who were found behind a New York City apartment building nearly five years ago, police said. Stephanie Castillo, identified as the boys' mother, was arrested at a homeless shelter in the Bronx, police said. She is charged with murder and manslaughter. The superintendent of a Bronx apartment building discovered the boys' bodies on Nov. 9, 2020, in the building's courtyard. The Medical Examiner determined the babies died from blunt force trauma. It was unknown whether Castillo, who was in custody Friday, had an attorney who could comment on her behalf. The case weighed heavily on New York City police officers, who were still looking for the person responsible for the babies' deaths when they were laid to rest nearly a year later. Police officers organized a funeral service for the infants, whom they named Zeke and Zane. They were placed in a single white casket, with officers serving as pallbearers at the service. 'You look at the way that the DNA technology has progressed over the last couple of years, and we are at the forefront of it,' Assistant Chief Michael Baldassano told 1010 Wins radio after the arrest. 'This case speaks to that.' Details of the investigation that led to Castillo's arrest were not immediately released.
