Murder inquiry in Sticker into missing man is 'challenging'
A woman in her 30s, from Newquay, was arrested last week on suspicion of murder and remains on police bail.
'Dense woodland'
Last week, Devon and Cornwall Police said the body found on Tuesday was not the missing person they were looking for, and the person is yet to be found. The family of the missing man has been informed of all developments.Police initially thought the two inquiries might be linked but are now investigating them separately.
Det Supt Jon Bancroft said: "This is a complex investigation and a challenging environment for our officers in dense woodland and difficult weather conditions."We are being very careful and using the very best forensic and scientific advice from specialist officers to ensure every line of inquiry is thoroughly exhausted."He added the force was aware of the "impact" the investigations were having on the community."A large police presence will remain in the Sticker area into this week, and I continue to ask that people do not speculate on social media about this case, as it may negatively impact our inquiries and investigation."

CCTV released in hunt for missing mother, 49, who was last seen at train station - as daughter issues desperate plea 'after bag is found at park'
Police have launched CCTV footage in a bid to find a missing mother last seen at a train station. Claire Bennett, 49, was last heard from at around 1.30pm on Monday afternoon before vanishing in Cornwall. The last confirmed sighting of her was at 3.24pm the same day, as she left Truro Train station. Police have launched an urgent appeal to track down Ms Bennett after they became concerned for her welfare this morning. The mother, from St Austell, is believed to be in the Truro area, according to officers. In a heartbreaking plea to her mother, Ms Bennett's daughter begged her to return home. She told PlymouthLive: 'Mum, if you read this please come home. 'We aren't mad at you and we all bloody love you! 'You win at hide and seek. Just even send me a message to tell me you're OK. 'We can get through this. I promise. I love you.' Ms Bennett's daughter said her mother was 'classed as a high-risk missing person', according to the news website. She added that the family found a bag believed to belong to her mother at the park by the viaduct in Truro. Ms Bennett is described as a white female, around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build, police said. The mother is also understood to have blonde hair, which she usually wears down. She was last seen wearing a white, stripy top, black cardigan and blue jeans, police confirmed.

Minneapolis man, 43, fled into woods during 2020 traffic stop and was never seen again
A Minneapolis father who ran away from police during a traffic stop and disappeared into the woods five years ago still has not been found. Jami Lucas, who would now be age 43, vanished without a trace on July 3, 2020, when the local sheriff tried to pull him over in Outing, Minnesota. Lucas was riding a motorbike, and Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said he recognized him as an unlicensed driver and tried to pull him over just before sunset. Welk pursued him down Highway 6 and a winding dirt road. Lucas eventually gave up the chase by abandoning his motorcycle and sprinting into the woods. The sheriff said he drew his gun and shouted at Lucas to stop running - but he disappeared into the foliage. Five years later, he still hasn't been seen. 'Where the hell is he?' Welk said in a recent interview with the Star Tribune. Lucas' family have criticized the sheriff's handling of the traffic stop, claiming that he shouldn't have initiated a high speed chase over a minor incident. The father-of-three is known to police with a lengthy rap sheet. They would have known where to find him and didn't need to chase him, his family have argued. His mother, Sandy Lucas, also thinks that the deputies, or even her own relatives, may have been responsible for her son's disappearance. 'They're all crooked,' she said of the police department. In an interview with the Star Tribune, the heartbroken mother added that she believes her son is dead. Sandy said one of Lucas' relatives is in prison, and local media could not reach his ex-girlfriend, or the children they share together. His mother's suspicions were bolstered by a more recent discovery that there was a sixth deputy at the scene of Lucas' disappearance who never filed a report, unlike the other five. The sixth was Lucas' cousin, deputy Aaron Ammerman. Welk said Ammerman was riding with the squad when they saw Lucas on his motorcycle, and he radioed to other deputies asking them to pull him over. Sandy said she is suspicious of both Ammerman and Welk. Ammerman has denied any wrongdoing. 'I didn't do anything in that call,' Ammerman told the Star Tribune of his cousin's disappearance on the Fourth of July weekend. 'By the time we got there he was already gone in the woods… We didn't stay there the whole time because we had to be out on the water for the fireworks display that night.' Ammerman added that Lucas' immediate relatives are 'a family of conspiracy people' and should not be taken seriously. The sheriff's office and Cass County Attorney Ben Lindstrom have said the tragedy was sparked by Lucas' decision to flee law enforcement that fateful evening. 'We certainly want to see people reconnected and have finality, but I guess what I've seen is attacks on law enforcement suggesting that this is their fault that somebody ran from them, and I think that's misplaced,' Lindstrom told the Star Tribune. He added that there are no suspects in the case, and no evidence of foul play. Law enforcement issued a nationwide arrest warrant after Lucas went missing and failed to check in with his probation officer. 'Holding him accountable for the criminal cases are secondary,' Welk told the Star Tribune. 'We need to find him; that's the first and foremost.' But searches of the area by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and sheriff's office have only drawn more blanks. Welk said they combed the area at the time of the disappearance, and again this summer, using ATVs, dogs, and drones. He said the first search was cursory because deputies did not consider Lucas to be a missing person case, but rather evading law enforcement. However, his family has slammed police for failing to issue a missing persons bulletin for Lucas until December 2024 after they filed a misconduct complaint. The family is working with a private investigator to find Lucas, and his mother Sandy has placed a memorial cross adorned with flowers at the site where he disappeared. 'I just want to find my son's remains,' she told the Star Tribune.

Shocking moment shoplifter who attacked Co Op staff is put in a choke hold by 'have-a-go hero' customer hours before he died
This is the moment a shoplifter was put in a choke hold after attacking customers and staff in a supermarket shortly before he died. The 52-year-old man - named locality as James - was attempting to steal food and alcohol from the Co-Op in Torpoint, Cornwall on August 6 when workers tried to intervene. Witnesses say James - who was an alcoholic with tattoos on his face and neck - threatened staff when he was told to return stolen items and lashed out at several customers who tried to help. Another customer put James in a choke hold until he lost consciousness and when police arrived. He was rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead. The man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assault. James lived with his sister Claire on a houseboat moored at a marina in the town. Few neighbours were willing to pay tribute to him with one describing him as an 'alcoholic'. One added: 'He got what was coming to him - this couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. 'He has made people's lives a misery and threatened nearly everybody here. 'He was dearly loved by his sister but nobody else has a good word to say about him. 'He's spent several years in prison, I think for manslaughter, because he punched a guy in the face and he died.' Shopkeepers in the Cornish town said James had often been seen walking around carrying open cans of strong alcohol. One said: 'I was in the shop when it happened. He was stopped by staff and was abusing them. 'Members of the public stepped in and he was trying to fight them. Eventually the big black guy was on top of him restraining him. 'I saw the moment he lost consciousness, the guy flipped him over straight away and checked his pulse. He wasn't trying to hurt him. 'I feel sorry for the guy who was arrested. He got him around the neck but he had to otherwise more people would have been hurt.' A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: 'A 52-year-old man has died in hospital following an incident in Torpoint on Wednesday, August 6. 'Police were called at 4.45pm following reports of a disturbance at Co-op Food in Fore Street. 'During the incident the man was restrained by another customer but became unresponsive a short time later. 'The man, from Torpoint, was treated by paramedics and taken to Derriford Hospital. 'Police are continuing their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. 'Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 696 of August 6, 2025.'
