Brian Barry-Murphy hails youthful Cardiff after second-half fightback

Victory gave Barry-Murphy a winning start to his reign, having taken over in the summer following the Bluebirds' relegation from the Championship.
He selected Cardiff's youngest team this century, only to see Posh take the lead through a Brad Ihionvien penalty in the 33rd minute.
But skipper Rubin Colwill levelled with a fine free-kick shortly after half-time before 18-year-old Ronan Kpakio grabbed the winner.
'We saw a lot of potential out there and the style with which the boys played was evident throughout,' said Barry-Murphy.
'We didn't create as many chances in the first half as we would have liked given the positions we got into. When we arrived in behind their defensive line we had good moments but couldn't find the right selection.
'In the second half, the players' application and understanding to keep doing the same things and to repeat that was evident. I was pleased with that application overall.
'When you get to half-time and you are losing 1-0 in a game you feel you should be winning, it is very easy to start changing things because you think they aren't working.
'So I just reminded the players about how well they had done and told them never to take a step back.
'They told me they would do that and they were true to their word. They were really aggressive in how they wanted to win the ball back off a good team, who were really dangerous when they played beyond our pressure.
'They showed personality and I was very proud of their aggression on a day when so much was expected of them.'
Sir Alex Ferguson was at the Cardiff City Stadium to watch his son Darren's Peterborough side.
And Darren Ferguson felt he could scarcely have had a tougher start to the campaign.
'This was probably the hardest start to the season we could have had – Cardiff City away in their first game in League One,' he said.
'The free-kick for their goal was a fantastic strike and it was a big moment in the game because it got the crowd up. It changed the whole momentum.
'But it's the edge of the box and we gave it away. We should never be in that position in the first minute of the second half.
'We were poor on the ball in the middle of the park and the lads know that we weren't good enough. Too many times we turned the ball over again and we gave it back to them.
'If you're playing against a team that want to keep possession in the way they're doing, that's very expensive. You have to be good on the ball to stop them having it all the time and we weren't.'

Wrexham eye up new target as £7.5m record transfer deal in danger of falling through

Wrexham have made a club-record bid for Ipswich Town winger Nathan Broadhead as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the Championship season, but have a back-up plan just in case Wrexham might resort to a familiar face if their club-record £7.5million deal for Nathan Broadhead falls through. The Red Dragons have splashed the cash in the summer transfer window following their promotion from League One last season, with their total spending reportedly hitting eight figures. ‌ Manager Phil Parkinson has been backed heavily by Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, bringing in eight new faces so far. The former Bolton boss said this week that more signings could be on the cards as he aims to assemble a squad capable of holding its own in the Championship. ‌ The acquisition of a ninth player is on the cards as Wrexham chase Ipswich Town winger Broadhead, who began his football journey in the North Wales team's academy. If the move for the Welsh international gets the go-ahead, it would mark the third time Wrexham have broken their transfer record in the current window. ‌ READ MORE: Managing Wrexham as Ryan Reynolds smashes club transfer record and lands Ajax star Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna conceded this week that Broadhead has expressed a wish to move on. However, he was adamant that he wouldn't let the 27-year-old leave unless Ipswich's thin attacking ranks were bolstered. While Wrexham are willing to bide their time in their pursuit of Broadhead, reports suggest they do have a contingency plan should the deal fall through. As per the Daily Mail, Barnsley 's Davis Keillor-Dunn has caught the eye of Parkinson as a possible substitute. The forward shone in League One last season, bagging 18 goals and dishing out five assists, and had a stint with Wrexham in the National League back in 2020. Keillor-Dunn could be a more budget-friendly choice than Broadhead, with the Barnsley Chronicle claiming that he could be available for £5m. ‌ How long Wrexham are prepared to wait for a resolution on Broadhead's situation is still up in the air, but Ipswich manager McKenna recognised the player's eagerness to move during a press briefing on Wednesday. The former Manchester United coach said: "(There's) no update from what I said last week, really, with Nathan. He's expressed his desire to look at another opportunity that's been presented to him. ‌ "But at this moment with the position the club is in, it's not the right time or even a possible time for us to allow a good player to leave the building. We'll have to see how the situation plays out over the coming weeks." In response to queries about whether Broadhead will play in Ipswich's first Championship match against Birmingham on Friday night, he said: "He's been training and we're short in those positions. ‌ "He's missed some of the pre-season minutes, so he hasn't played quite as much, but he's in our plans for the weekend and there's every chance that we'll need a strong contribution from him." Broadhead has emerged as a prime target for Wrexham as they seek to wrap up their transfer dealings before the window shuts on September 1. The forward joined the Tractor Boys from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023 and played a crucial role in their remarkable consecutive promotions from League One and the Championship. ‌ During his stint at Ipswich, he has found the net 23 times in 83 outings, though he was restricted to merely seven Premier League starts last season. With Wrexham's pursuit of Broadhead still uncertain, Parkinson has acknowledged that his summer shopping spree remains incomplete. "I don't think we are there yet where we need to be," he told The Leader. "We have made quite a few signings but we still feel we need to add in a few areas. We have been close to a couple of deals and then they didn't happen for whatever reason but we are working on a few things. "We know the kind of template where we want the squad to look when we finish and we are working towards that. Sometimes patience is a virtue with these things." 'Maybe Dibling's time at Saints is coming to end'

BBC Sport senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel says those close to Southampton believe Tyler Dibling's time as a Saints player could be coming to an Wednesday, it was revealed the 19-year-old had been withdrawn from full-contact training by the Championship side. Speaking on the Football Daily podcast, Mokbel stated that while some people closer to the Everton camp feel the deal has stalled, others suspect that there are still "legs" to it."The information varies depending on who you speak to," he said. "If you speak to people closer to Everton, they will tell you that the deal has reached an impasse and Southampton are asking for far too much. "If you speak to those closer to the South Coast, there is a realisation there that maybe Tyler Dibling's time is coming to an end."Listen to more about Saints and Dibling on BBC Sounds' Football Daily podcast.
