MACC to recall individuals linked to Sabah assemblymen corruption video
PUTRAJAYA, May 22 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will resummon all individuals alleged to be linked to a corruption scandal involving several Sabah state assemblymen.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the directive follows the commission's receipt of a forensic report related to video recordings that went viral on social media last year.
'The forensic report has been completed and handed over to the investigating officer. It was submitted about a week ago.
'My instruction is for the investigating officer to resummon all those said to be involved, whether appearing in the video, in possession of the video, or otherwise, to have their statements recorded in order to verify the video's contents,' he said at a press conference here today.
However, he declined to comment on the authenticity of the video, adding that the investigation should be concluded within a month.
'I do not wish to make any comments on whether the video is authentic or not. What's important is that we conduct the investigation and call those involved to give their statements regarding the content of the video.
'The deputy public prosecutor will assess the forensic findings to verify whether the video is genuine and so forth, before making a decision,' he said.
Last month, the media reported that eight Sabah assemblymen had been recalled to verify the contents of several video recordings allegedly linked to the case.
Previously, several video clips allegedly showing conversations related to corruption between certain individuals and several Sabah assemblymen concerning mineral licensing issues in the state went viral.
The MACC has confirmed that an investigation paper has been opened on the matter, and that a comprehensive investigation is underway, including digital forensic analysis of the evidence. — Bernama

Rathna requested a new mention date for the submission of documents. On May 19, the influencer pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam. The court had then fixed today for the presentation of case facts and sentencing to take place at the Magistrates' Court. Meanwhile, another defence counsel, Amer Haiqal Mohd Yusof, told reporters after the proceedings that the accused had not received proper legal advice before entering the earlier plea. KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — Efforts to empower women must go beyond dialogue and be translated into concrete commitments, such as corporate pledges and government partnerships. Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of the Prime Minister, urged leaders, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to work together in building inclusive growth through shared leadership and cross-border collaboration. 'It is an honour for me to stand among such remarkable women. Your vision, generosity, and dedication to making a difference are not only admirable but also a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together,' she said in her keynote address at the Women Economic Forum (WEF) Asean 2025 here today. DPM Fadillah to visit Uzbekistan, Russia to boost bilateral, energy cooperation

The visit from June 20-28, which marks his first official engagement with both countries as deputy prime minister, includes meetings with high level government leaders. There will be bilateral discussions with leaders from Uzbekistan and Russia, as well as site visits to strategic facilities, including energy infrastructure and innovation hubs. Fadillah's visit to Uzbekistan aims to build on the solid foundations laid during Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Malaysia earlier this year. In Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent, Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Mirziyoyev and hold a bilateral meeting with Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, as part of Malaysia's effort to enhance cooperation in the energy sector. Fadillah is also scheduled to visit Rosatom's nuclear energy facilities in St Petersburg, as Malaysia continues to assess the potential of nuclear energy as part of its long-term energy transition plan towards net-zero emissions by 2050. The visit resonates with Malaysia's evolving energy diplomacy. Notably, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's state visit to Russia in May 2025 led to commitments from Russian President Vladimir Putin to pursue joint ventures in natural gas and peaceful nuclear energy, including deepening Petronas's involvement in Russia. Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Russia were established in 1967. In 2024, Russia was Malaysia's ninth-largest trading partner among European countries, with total trade reaching RM11.46 billion (US$2.48 billion).
