Influencer accused of sneaking into celebrity's home backpedals on guilty plea, says she'll prove innocence
SEREMBAN, June 19 — Social media influencer Nurul Nur Ariani Muhammad Zahar pleaded not guilty at the Magistrates' Court today to a charge of trespassing into a celebrity's residence earlier this month.
Her counsel, Mohd Anif Rafih, informed Magistrate Saiful Sayoti that the accused intended to change her initial plea, following which the charge was re-read to her.
Nurul Nur Ariani, 41, claimed trial to a charge of criminal trespass for allegedly entering the premises of a house in Kampung Chelet, Nilai at around 5.00pm on May 7.
She was charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of six months' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, upon conviction.
Police prosecuting officer ASP L. Rathna requested a new mention date for the submission of documents.
On May 19, the influencer pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
The court had then fixed today for the presentation of case facts and sentencing to take place at the Magistrates' Court.
Meanwhile, another defence counsel, Amer Haiqal Mohd Yusof, told reporters after the proceedings that the accused had not received proper legal advice before entering the earlier plea.
'My client now wishes to proceed with a trial to contest the case and prove her innocence,' he said. — Bernama

IPOH, June 19 — A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash in Kampung Merbau Tua, Jalan Baling-Kuala Kangsar, near Kuala Kangsar this afternoon. Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said in a statement today that the victim had been identified as Megat Muhammad Ikram Megd Adeni, 33, from Kampung Luat, Lenggong. However, the condition of the Toyota Hilux driver, who is believed to have proceeded to the nearest police station after the crash, remains unknown. He said Megat Muhammad Ikram was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was handed over to the police. Sabarodzi said the injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Perlis cops arrest couple for allegedly abusing 11-year-old daughter since 2023
ARAU, June 19 — A couple was arrested early this morning at their home in Taman Desa Saujana here for allegedly abusing their 11-year-old daughter since 2023. Arau police chief Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said the 37-year-old husband and wife were detained at 1.30am after the Perlis Social Welfare Department (JKM) received a public complaint about suspected physical abuse. According to initial investigations, the most recent incident is believed to have occurred at about noon yesterday when the girl was allegedly caned on her back by her father for misbehaving. 'JKM received the tip-off via its hotline around 12.15pm yesterday. It was reported that the child had been physically abused by her biological parents,' he said in a statement today. Later that night, a JKM child protection officer visited the house at 10.40pm and took the girl, a pupil at a Chinese vernacular school (SJKC) in Kangar, to the Arau Children's Home to facilitate further investigation. A medical examination at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar revealed injuries on the victim's head, lips, chest, right ribs, back, arms, and legs — believed to be caused by blunt force and exposure to hot water. 'The girl had both old and recent injuries and has been referred to the hospital's Paediatric Unit for further treatment,' he added. Spiced and seized: Robber caught 300 metres from Langkawi gold shop after chilli powder heist
ALOR SETAR, June 19 — A robber was arrested before he could even turn the corner on the street of a gold shop he had just fled from at Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah in Langkawi today. Langkawi police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said in the robbery at about 11.48am, the 45-year-old local man entered the shop wearing a face mask. 'During the robbery, the 69-year-old owner and his 60-year-old wife were inside the shop. The suspect threw chilli powder at the victim's wife and proceeded to smash the jewellery display glass with a machete. 'The suspect then fled but was chased down by the goldsmith and several bystanders,' he said in a statement today. He said the suspect was arrested about a 300-metre dash from the gold shop by policemen on patrol in the vicinity. 'The gold (jewellery) looted was estimated at RM50,000. The suspect has been detained for further investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code (robbery and causing grievous harm),' he said. — Bernama
