Spiced and seized: Robber caught 300 metres from Langkawi gold shop after chilli powder heist
Langkawi police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said in the robbery at about 11.48am, the 45-year-old local man entered the shop wearing a face mask.
'During the robbery, the 69-year-old owner and his 60-year-old wife were inside the shop. The suspect threw chilli powder at the victim's wife and proceeded to smash the jewellery display glass with a machete.
'The suspect then fled but was chased down by the goldsmith and several bystanders,' he said in a statement today.
He said the suspect was arrested about a 300-metre dash from the gold shop by policemen on patrol in the vicinity.
'The gold (jewellery) looted was estimated at RM50,000. The suspect has been detained for further investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code (robbery and causing grievous harm),' he said. — Bernama

MELAKA, Aug 12 — The Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) seized seven luxury vehicles, estimated to be worth almost RM6 million, during 'Op Khas Luxury' (Special Luxury Operation) conducted from July 1 until today. Its director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said the seized luxury vehicles, which include brands like Bentley, Porsche, BMW, and Toyota Alphard, were impounded for various offences, including expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage. She noted that common excuses given by the owners or drivers of these vehicles were that they 'overlooked' or 'forgot' to renew their road tax and insurance. 'The latest luxury vehicle seized was a Toyota Alphard driven by a Myanmar national with six other men of the same nationality, traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. The seizure took place at the Jasin Toll entrance around 10 am this morning. 'The driver was found to not have a valid driver's license, and none of them had valid travel documents before being handed over to the police for further action,' she said at a press conference on Op Khas Luxury and Op Pemandu Warga Asing (PeWA) (Foreign Driver Operation) here today. Also present were the Deputy Director of the Melaka RTD, Khairul Aswad Abdul Halim, and the Head of the Melaka RTD Enforcement Division, Zulhilmi Zaidie. Elaborating further, Siti Zarina said that a check revealed that the owner of the Toyota Alphard is a local citizen while a detailed investigation is underway to examine various aspects, including whether the vehicle was rented to the foreigners involved. She added that Op Luxury was launched simultaneously across the country on July 1, focusing on strengthening enforcement against imported and luxury vehicles that fail to comply with road regulations and laws. In another development, she said 36 motorcycles ridden by foreigners were also seized under Op PeWA (operation codenamed Op Pewa for vehicles operated by foreigners), which was conducted around the state today. 'The foreigners riding motorcycles were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Rohingya, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Senawang dispute turns deadly: Man stabbed in front of house, neighbours nab suspect
SEREMBAN, Aug 12 — A 28-year-old man died from stab wounds to the chest in front of a house at Taman Seri Pagi in Senawang near here yesterday evening. Seremban police chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the incident stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and the suspect during the 6.50 pm incident. 'The suspect stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife, causing death. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene at 7.28 pm by a medical officer from the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital (HTJ),' he said in a statement here today. Mohamad Hatta said the 31-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene with the help of residents at the housing estate and police seized a knife. He said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code (for murder) and the motive for the incident was still under investigation. The suspect would be remanded until Aug 18 starting today. Meanwhile, a 66-year-old neighbour in the housing estate said he heard the victim's father scream and rushed out to see what was happening. KL cop rejects claims of beating, forced confessions in Palestinian kidnap trial
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — A police officer denied in the High Court here today that two suspects in a Palestinian man's kidnapping case were severely beaten by police, resulting in serious injuries such as a torn tongue during their arrest at a chalet in Hulu Langat three years ago. ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, 42, currently attached to the Intelligence and Operations Division of the Dang Wangi police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department, testified under cross-examination by defence lawyer Norma Goh Kim Lian. The eight accused in the case are Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid, 44; Mohamad Naziree Mustapha, 44; Faizull Hardey Mohd Isa, 45; Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis, 30; Mohd Zaidi Mohd Zain, 59; Nidarahayu Zainal, 39; Raibafie Amdan, 44; and Edy Ko'im Said, 45. Goh: I state to you that during the time in room 110, the fifth and sixth accused, Mohamad Naziree and Faizull Hardey, were severely beaten by your team, sustaining serious injuries, including a torn tongue and bodily injuries. They were beaten and forced to confess involvement in the kidnapping, which they denied. Do you agree? Mohamad Jazlan: I do not agree.
