Tata-Backed Titan To Buy Dubai Jeweler For $282 Million

Photographer: Dhiraj Singh/Bloomberg A unit of Titan Company—an Indian jewelry retailer backed by the Tata Group—has agreed to buy a 67% stake of Dubai-based Damas Jewellery for 1.038 billion dirhams ($282 million). Titan Holdings International will buy the Damas stake from Qatar-based Mannai fund the acquisition through a combination of debt and internal cash, according to a statement released on Monday. It plans to purchase the rest of the Dubai-based jeweller by the end of 2029. 'With the Damas acquisition, Titan Company is stepping out from its diaspora focus into other nationalities and ethnicities,' C.K. Venkataraman, managing director of Titan said in the statement. After scaling up its retail network across the countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the U.S., Titan aims to expand globally, he added. Upon completion of the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals, Titan will gain access to 146 Damas stores across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates—markets which the company expects robust demand for jewelry. Titan entered the GCC market in 2020 with the opening of its first Tanishq store in Dubai. Founded in 1987, Titan is a joint venture between the Tata Group and the Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corp., an Indian state-owned agency. In addition to jewelry, Titan also sells watches, eyewear, fragrances, women's bags, and Indian dresswear through stores in more than 400 cities across India. Tata Group is India's oldest conglomerate that the late Ratan Tata (who passed away in October) transformed into an industrial powerhouse with interests in airlines, automotive, financial services, media, telecommunications, technology and steel manufacturing. Under his two-decade leadership, he made global acquisitions including that of British steelmaker Corus Group in 2007 and luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover the following year.

Smash-and-grab robbery at Sunnyvale jewelry store foiled by armed employees

Armed employees thwarted the latest attempt to rob a jewelry store in Sunnyvale by smashing a vehicle into the building, authorities said. The incident happened on Friday afternoon at a jewelry store located on East El Camino Real between Poplar Avenue and Helen Avenue, just west of Lawrence Expressway. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a press release that officers who responded found that a vehicle had intentionally rammed the building to gain entry. However, armed store workers confronted the multiple suspects, prompting them to flee in separate vehicles before they were able to enter the store, the DPS said. There were no shots fired, no items or cash were taken, and no one was injured, the DPS said. The vehicle used to ram into the store had been stolen, the DPS said, and one of the vehicles used by suspects to flee was later found abandoned and had also been stolen. It was the latest in a series of brazen jewelry store robberies or attempted robberies in Sunnyvale and other Bay Area cities in the last few months. Last month, thieves stole merchandise from a jewelry store on the same block in Sunnyvale by ramming a stolen vehicle into the building in the middle of the day, severely injuring the store owner and nearly injuring customers. After gaining entry, multiple suspects used hammers to smash display cases and steal an undetermined amount of jewelry before fleeing in separate vehicles, leaving the stolen vehicle behind, the DPS said. In March, thieves used a stolen car to ram another jewelry store in Sunnyvale, less than a mile west on El Camino Real between S. Wolfe Road and Maria Lane. In that incident, a store employee also confronted the thieves who fled without stealing anything, the DPS said. Also last month, a similar robbery attempt happened at a Dublin jewelry store, with thieves ramming a stolen car through the store's security gates. Published reports said they left empty-handed because the store's owner had removed merchandise from display cases after hearing about a similar smash-and-grab theft from a Fremont jewelry store just days before. Anyone with information about the latest robbery attempt was asked to contact Detective E. Rosette at 408-730-7110.

Anaheim jewelry store owner scares off mob of thieves by firing warning shot

The Brief The owner of an Anaheim jewelry store scared off a mob of thieves trying to break in by shooting a warning shot at them. Around 20 people tried to break into Al-Amira Jewelry with sledgehammers and pickaxes on July 17. Some of the owner's familymembers were in the store during the attempted robbery. ANAHEIM, Calif. - An Anaheim businessowner recently scared off a mob of thieves trying to break into his store by firing a warning shot at the crowd. The whole thing was caught on store security footage. What we know The attempted robbery happened at Al-Amira Jewelry on July 17. The owner told FOX 11 that it was close to closing time, when five cars pulled up to the front of the store. Security camera footage showed about 20 people piling out of the cars and mobbing the store's entrance. Some of them had sledgehammers and pickaxes and started smashing the door. SUGGESTED: East Hollywood car crash: Dozens injured waiting outside nightclub; driver attacked Seconds later, though, the group scattered, got back into their cars, and they all drove off. Video from inside the store showed the other angle. When the people inside saw the thieves, they ran behind the counter. Several came back out to the front, armed. That's when the owner fired one shot. What they're saying The store's owner, said he thinks the group was watching the store. He said the group moved in just several minutes after one of the last customers left the store. The owner said he heard a loud noise, and when he looked at the door, he saw "many people. I can't count it." "Then I have to defend myself and my store and my employees. I take my gun, I shoot one bullet, I scare him (the person at the door), he moved and the problem is done," the owner said. The owner said that some of his familymembers were in the store when the group rushed the door. "Every single one of them was covered in black, head to toe," said Mohammad Abuershaid, an attorney for the jewelry store. "Everybody should be vigilant and careful," said Mohammed Kahn, a customer. "If they notice anything suspicious, they should speak up and report, so everyone is safe." For 30 years, Mahmud Salem has owned Sahara Falafel, a popular restaurant near Al-Amira Jewelry. He says he has never seen anything like this here before. "It was like a movie," said Salem. "It's so sad. People are hungry and looking for bigger stuff [to steal]." SUGGESTED: Several thieves storm Artesia jewelry store in bold smash-and-grab Dig deeper The owner's lawyer told FOX 11 that the store has had one similar incident before, but the thieves couldn't get into the store then either. About a month ago, another jewelry store across the street was also targeted by thieves. In that case, crooks drove a vehicle through the front of Besan Jewelry. The robbers then took jewelry estimated to be worth more than $3 million. The Source Information in this story is from security camera footage from Al-Amira Jewelry in Anahaim and an interview with the store owner.

Style Edit: Gucci merges timeless elegance with avant-garde flair in its 2025 collection, showcasing exquisite high jewellery, innovative timepieces and a striking collaboration with Pomellato

Perfectly blending heritage and innovation, the latest drop from Gucci revisits some of the Italian luxury brand's most iconic lines while also striking out into bold new territory. Recently unveiled at a special event at Gucci's flagship on Paris' Avenue Montaigne, it features additions to classic high jewellery and high watchmaking collections, alongside a daring new collaboration with Italian fine jeweller Pomellato. Gucci's collaboration with Pomellato has produced bold new designs. Photo: Handout The Labirinti Gucci collection continues its exploration of a lush Italian garden, which began in 2024. Among 20 new pieces, stand-outs include a close-fitting necklace showcasing lines of articulated diamonds offset by the round-cut 24.75-carat tanzanite and cushion-cut tourmaline at their centre, while another diamond-encrusted necklace features the glittering stones in a macramé pattern surrounding a 52.86-carat octagonal Brazilian aquamarine and oval tanzanites. Another Gucci classic, the Marina chain, gets the full rainbow treatment, with necklaces and bracelets brought to life by a spectrum of gems. The Marina chain in rainbow hues. Photo: Handout Seven new timepieces form part of Gucci's 2025 offering, among them five intricate additions to the G-Timeless collection. Each showing off diamond-set tourbillon movements and measuring 40mm, they take their aesthetic cues from the silk scarves for which the maison is so well known. They include a rendering of the Flora scarf in white gold, diamonds and white grand feu enamelling, as well as beautiful reinterpretations of the Velieri, Perle and Safari scarves, plus another that pays tribute to one of Gucci's most common sources of inspiration, equestrian sport. There's also the Gucci 25H Amphitheater, inspired by ancient Rome's Colosseum, a 40mm skeleton tourbillon version of the coveted model first introduced in 2021, featuring a staggered diamond setting and a case just 8.4mm thick; and a new 41mm rose gold Gucci Interlocking, set with a constellation of diamonds in different sizes. Gucci's 2025 offering includes seven new timepieces. Photo: Handout Finally for 2025, Gucci has joined forces with another powerhouse of Italian design, Pomellato, to craft the Monili collection, meaning 'jewels' in Italian. The necklaces, bracelets and clutches in the collection are homages to archival pieces from the 1980s produced by the storied jeweller. They include a cute minaudière in black leather with a wrist strap chain in white gold with pavé diamonds, and bracelets featuring flowing, sensuous loops and knots made from the same materials.
