Skydance's 'Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra' Delayed To Early 2026

Geek Culture14-05-2025

Skydance's upcoming narrative-driven adventure game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra , has been delayed to early 2026.
Breaking the news on its social media pages, Skydance stated that the they were 'taking [the] additional time to add more polish', while also teasing 'exciting things in store', possibly hinting at the release of a gameplay trailer in the coming months.
Not much is known currently about the game, which received a brief cinematic story trailer in early 2024 at Epic Games' State of Unreal event at the Game Developers Conference. Led by Amy Hennig, best known for her work writing and directing the Uncharted series, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to follow in the same action-adventure vein, with a story inspired by the 2010 Marvel Comics limited series Captain America / Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers .
Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game is set in occupied Paris during World War II, with an original story following Captain America as he forms an uneasy alliance with Azzuri, the Black Panther of the time period, as they work to prevent the rise of the terrorist organisation Hydra. Other characters include Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos and a Wakandan spy named Nanali, with all four being playable.
Originally slated for Holiday 2025, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is now delayed to early 2026. As the first major project by Skydance New Media, the game is described as 'a narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game' and will be developed in collaboration with Marvel Games. With industry legend Henning at the helm, the game has the potential to be an epic single-player experience, the likes of Uncharted , but only time will tell if this will be the case, or if the studio will give in to greed by implementing a live-service model similar to that of 2020's ill-fated Marvel's Avengers , finger's crossed that its the former.

‘Predator: Killer of Killers' Sneak Peek Pits Apex Hunter Against Viking Warriors

The Vikings are about to meet their toughest foe yet, as Hulu has unveiled a first-look clip for Predator: Killer of Killers , the upcoming animated anthology film set for release on 6 June. The minute-long clip offers a glimpse at one of the film's three central plotlines and teases the showdown between the Viking Raiders and a Predator warrior, a muscle-clad beast armed with some sort of energy weapon in place of its right hand. Fans are immediately treated to the gratuitous violence they know and love, with the clip kicking off with the Predator holding the severed head of a recently deceased Viking. A female Viking armed with two shields, presumably the main character of the segment, then proceeds to lunge at the hulking beast, but her efforts are in vain, as it promptly charges up its energy weapon and sends her flying off a cliff. Hailing from director Dan Trachtenberg, the mind behind 2022's Prey and the upcoming Predator: Badlands , Predator: Killer of Killers marks the first animated film in the franchise, and will follow the stories of three different warriors throughout history. Apart from the Viking age, the film will also feature the story of a Ninja in Feudal Japan and an Allied pilot during World War II. With so much violence shown in just a brief clip, it's a promising sign that Predator: Killer of Killers would bring the franchise to a whole new light with its shift from live-action to animation, providing brutal, never-before-seen ways to showcase the prowess of its titular hunters that simply won't be possible in the live-action format. Fans won't even have to wait much longer to bask in all its bloody glory, as Predator: Killer of Killers lands on 6 June 2025 on Hulu in the United States and internationally on Disney+. 'Dungeons & Dragons' Single-Player Game In The Works From 'Star Wars Jedi' Veteran

Giant Skull, a new game studio founded by Star Wars Jedi franchise and God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen, is hard at work on an upcoming single-player Dungeons & Dragons action adventure. The currently untitled project was announced by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, and follows previous reports that Giant Skull was making a new AAA single-player game built in Unreal Engine 5. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023) 'Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity,' Asmussen said in a statement. 'Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.' Formed in 2024 after Asmussen left Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment a year prior, Giant Skull's leadership team also consists of lead producer Lauren McLemore ( Fortnite, League of Legends ), art director Patrick Murphy ( Valorant, Ratchet & Clank ), CTO Jon Carr ( Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ), design director Jeff Magers ( Star Wars Jedi franchise, Medal of Honor: Airborne ), animation director Brian Campbell ( Fortnite ) and COO/CFO Anthony Scott. Previous reports also indicated that the team consists of Rockstar alumni as well. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) Giant Skull's latest project is set to add another notch to publisher Wizards of the Coast's belt, joining a separate D&D action adventure game by Invoke Studios, the team behind 2021's Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance , alongside the sci-fi RPG Exodus , which will be helmed by Archetype Entertainment, a team made from former Mass Effect veterans. With Asmussen's impressive track record consisting of highly successful games like the Star Wars Jedi franchise, God of War II and its sequel God of War III , hopes are high that Giant Skull would be able to deliver an immersive story-focused adventure set in the captivating world of Dungeons & Dragons . The project is still in its infancy, although it was confirmed to be a multi-platform title and will launch on PC and consoles 'at a later date'. Hasbro Unveils 'Marvel vs. Capcom' Games-Inspired Marvel Legends Figures

Hasbro has revealed its newest wave of Marvel Legends Gamerverse action figures, featuring ten characters inspired by Capcom's classic fighting game series, Marvel vs. Capcom . These newly announced figures will be released as either individual figures or packs of two, with the full line-up including: Captain America vs. Venom Psylocke vs. Thanos War Machine vs. Omega Red Wolverine vs. Silver Samurai Gargantos Juggernaut These figures will be the latest line-up to Marvel Legends' Gamerverse subline, and will see the debut of Gargantos, alongside updated designs for the remaining characters, with fresh new colour-schemes and body proportions to better suit their appearance in the classic games. These changes include Venom's game-accurate blue colour scheme, War Machine's exaggerated shoulder pads, and various effects parts to simulate the special moves in the game, like Wolverine's Berserker Barrage claw effects and Silver Samurai's Shuriken. Being a Marvel toyline, the collection will understandably omit the Capcom side of the game's roster, so it remains to be seen if Hasbro will announce a separate line featuring iconic characters like Ryu, Chun-Li or Akuma sometime in the future. The line-up also barely scrapes the surface of the entire Marvel roster in the games, but at least for now, fans can make do with existing Marvel Legends releases until the announcement of a potential second wave. In addition, Hasbro has also announced its first wave of Fantastic Four: First Steps toys to coincide with the release of the movie on 25 July, including the titular trio of Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm and The Thing, alongside Johnny in his Human Torch form and the Silver Surfer. Pre-orders for the Marvel Legends Gamerverse action figures will open in June this year, with the figures expected to release in Fall 2025, with the Marvel Legends Fantastic Four First Steps line-up releasing in Summer 2025.
