Delhi continues to witness pleasant weather as the monsoon phase remains active across the city. While monsoon arrived several weeks ago, rainfall patterns have been unpredictable, with more regular showers seen in recent days. Overcast skies have frequently covered the Delhi-NCR region, often without any rainfall, adding to the region's humidity levels.
Weather forecast in Delhi for July 17
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital is likely to see mostly cloudy skies today. Intermittent light rain, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, is expected over the next two days, with only light showers anticipated thereafter.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to stay between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius, while night-time lows may hover around 25.2 degrees Celsius. Recent readings suggest a variation of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average.
Cloudy skies likely till July 23
As per IMD's weekly forecast, Delhi is expected to experience cloudy skies with occasional light to moderate rainfall through to July 23. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible. While no warnings have been issued, limited rainfall could lead to an increase in humidity levels in the coming days.
Heavy rains disrupt life in Kerala; schools shut
In contrast, southern India, particularly Kerala, is grappling with intense monsoon conditions. On July 16, heavy rainfall caused water levels in rivers to surge, prompting authorities in several districts to declare holidays for educational institutions and restrict access to hilly terrain.
The IMD issued varying alerts across the state — starting with an orange warning in five districts, which was later upgraded to a 'red alert' in two and extended as orange in seven others.

Red alerts, indicating extremely heavy rainfall above 20 cm in 24 hours — were issued for Kannur and Kasaragod. Orange alerts were issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. A 'yellow alert' was also in effect for parts of Telangana.
Following these warnings, educational institutions in Thrissur, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod were ordered to remain shut on July 17. In Wayanad, mining activities and adventure tourism were suspended by the district administration as a precautionary measure.

The situation remains critical in the districts of Mandi (91 roads) and Kullu (33 roads), where landslides and flash floods have caused the bulk of road closures. As a result, Kerala is expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall over the next five days, particularly in isolated areas till July 21. According to the IMD classification, an orange alert signifies the possibility of very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours. A yellow alert indicates the likelihood of heavy rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm during the same time frame. Authorities have advised residents in the alerted districts to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into water bodies or flood-prone areas. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea due to the possibility of rough conditions.

Hyderabad: The city on Sunday experienced rainfall for the third consecutive day, with various areas in east, south and central parts of the city receiving heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department had issued an alert for Hyderabad for the next two days. Rains lashed areas like - Amberpet, Tarnaka, Uppal, Habsiguda, Kapra, Nacharam, Mallapur, LB Nagar, Hayathnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Malakpet, Chaderghat, Saidabad, Santosh Nagar, Himayat Nagar, Nallakunta, Nampally and Basheerbagh. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a surface trough is developing in the Bay of Bengal, leading to a low-pressure system forming in the North Bay on July 24. The department has forecasted that rain will persist across the Telugu states for two days, with heavy rainfall likely in multiple districts within Telangana. In response to these weather conditions, the IMD Hyderabad has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days. A forecast on Sunday said Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana will continue to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next three to four days. The GHMC Commissioner, District Collector, HYDRAA Commissioner, Police Commissioner, Water Works officials, and other key figures have all been alerted in preparation for the continuing rainfall. Meanwhile, the twin reservoirs, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, are receiving moderate inflows. As of 8 am on Sunday, both reservoirs are below their Full Tank Levels (FTL). Osman Sagar, with an FTL of 1790.00 feet (3.900 TMC), currently stands at a present level of 1782.80 feet, holding 2.474 TMC of water. The reservoir is experiencing inflows of 370 cusecs. There are no outflows reported, and the gates remain closed. Himayat Sagar, which has an FTL of 1763.50 feet (2.970 TMC), is presently at 1759.15 feet, with a water storage of 2.164 TMC. The reservoir is receiving inflows of 200 cusecs. There are no reported outflows, and the gates are not open.
