
Arqaam Capital Intensifies ECM and DCM Push Amid Gulf Deal Boom
Arqaam Capital is stepping up its equity capital markets, debt capital markets, and loan syndication operations in response to an upswing in transaction volume across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, positioning itself as a more prominent regional player.
The Dubai‑based financial services firm, with licenced offices in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Lebanon, has secured permissions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to advise on ECM mandates. Rawad Kassouf, Head of ECM Execution & Syndicate, noted that the Saudi team is undergoing expansion and actively leveraging a 27‑strong research analyst base to deepen research capabilities and strengthen regional and international distribution for issuers.
Arqaam, originally a sales and trading brokerage, entered the ECM arena by managing the Dubai Holding REIT as a joint bookrunner. Kassouf, who joined from ADCB in August 2024 to spearhead ECM expansion, said, 'We're getting deals from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman, and we expect to advise on more ECM transactions by year end'. He anticipates increasing activity in Saudi listings, particularly from industrial and real estate sectors driven by large family-owned businesses seeking to list on Tadawul.

Expansion across the debt-markets is being led by Omar Musharraf, newly appointed Managing Director of Debt Solutions and DCM. Musharraf joined less than two months ago from Oman Investment Bank, where he headed structured finance and DCM. At Arqaam, he is tasked with growing the debt platform by anchoring flow business in DCM and loan syndications, as well as higher‑margin structured finance and private credit.
GCC debt capital markets had outstanding debt exceeding US$1 trillion by end‑Q1 2025, rising 10 % year‑on‑year, with quarterly issuance hitting US$89 billion—a modest 3 % year‑on‑year decline despite quarterly growth. Musharraf remarked on the sophistication of issuances and tighter pricing, increasing competition and compressing fees: 'Value creation now hinges on structuring complexity and execution'.
By year‑end, Musharraf expects a full debt solutions strategy supported by new fixed‑income analysts added to the research team. Arqaam has already supported key transactions, such as the Sobha deal, and is involved in several additional corporate, financial institution, and sovereign debt transactions, also evaluating private credit opportunities.
The firm is staging its DCM expansion prudently, targeting high‑quality credit issuers—government‑linked entities or private sector firms aligned with regional priorities, including oil and gas. It is also aiming to tap deeper into sukuk markets and Additional Tier 1 issuances across Saudi and the UAE.

Forecasts indicate around US$35 billion of debt refinancing across the GCC in 2025–26, driven by sovereign and corporate maturities as well as infrastructure financing and economic diversification strategies. Musharraf commented, 'Debt refinancing alone will keep us active, with a significant volume of sovereign, corporate and FI maturities on the horizon,' alongside new issuances from regional and global players.
Kassouf highlights Oman as a potential growth market: an upgrade from frontier to emerging market status—possibly scheduled for next year—could attract increased foreign direct investment, re‑ratings and valuation boosts.
Despite the growth trajectory, both ECM and DCM businesses face pressures. Kassouf points to 'tight fees and stiff competition,' especially in post-launch aftermarket performance, which requires a delicate equilibrium between issuer objectives and investor returns. Musharraf echoes this sentiment, acknowledging fee compression and the escalating demand for intricate structuring.
Arqaam is taking a strategic approach in response. The firm is intensifying recruitment across ECM and DCM, enhancing its research infrastructure to include fixed-income analysts and emphasising structuring capabilities that justify its advisory fees.
This expansion is underpinned by strong macroeconomic fundamentals in the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia—responsible for 45.1 % of GCC DCM outstanding—and the UAE, with Qatar, are at the forefront. ECM activity is gaining momentum, with growing participation from real estate conglomerates looking to diversify via public listings.
Government‑related entities are expected to fuel much of the pipeline in Q3 and Q4, though privately owned firms are increasingly opining on listing possibilities. Oman's evolving market classification adds another source of upside, potentially drawing new players and capital.
Looking ahead, Arqaam Capital seems poised to navigate the complexities of Gulf capital markets with a reinforced advisory model, deeper research backing, and a dual‑track strategy across ECM and DCM. The firm is strategically augmenting its teams, refining product offerings, and tracking regulatory and market shifts to capitalise on Gulf investment flows while standing firm against competitive and pricing headwinds.

Invictus Investment plans a third acquisition in Africa by the end of 2025
Dubai-headquartered Invictus Investment has revealed its plan to make a third acquisition this year in Africa, following its purchase of Merec Industries in Mozambique and the signing of an agreement to acquire 65 per cent of Angata in Angola. The company, which is present across a diversified commodity portfolio with activities along the entire value chain, including origination, processing and trading, said it is 'on a journey to expand our presence and capabilities across key African markets'. In a filing with the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), Invictus said it was pursuing an ambitious growth strategy – both organic and inorganic – to increase the company's revenue fivefold to AED 25 billion (US$6.8 billion) by 2028, using its 2023 performance as a baseline. The goal is to become a fully integrated agro-food enterprise in the Middle East and Africa. New markets and growth priorities 'We are constantly evaluating investment opportunities within the agro-food value chain with the aim of expanding our business both up and down the vertical to become a fully integrated business,' the company said in the statement. 'The Angata, Merec Industries and Graderco (60 per cent stake purchased last year) acquisitions are prime examples of this strategy in action as they strengthen our market position in the region and provide us with strong local warehousing and distribution capabilities. 'Building on this, we will continue to invest in midstream and downstream assets in the value chain in key African markets, targeting the acquisition of majority stakes in ventures valued between US$200-300 million to broaden our market presence and product portfolio – with plans for a third acquisition in the basic foods segment this year.' Over the past two years, Invictus expanded its trading operations into several new markets, including Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Turkey. Most recently, it entered Angola, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Jordan, Madagascar, Mauritania, the Netherlands, Senegal, South Africa and Zimbabwe, bringing its global reach to 65 markets. Invictus drives unprecedented growth For the full year 2024, Invictus reported AED 8.9 billion in revenue – its highest since listing and a jump of 10.1 per cent from FY2023. Commodity transaction volumes increased by 51.8 per cent to a record 8.2 million metric tonnes in 2024 (5.4 million metric tonnes in 2023). Citing unaudited results, Invictus said it has maintained the upward momentum in 2025. 'We delivered a strong start to the year building on the positive momentum from our robust 2024 financial and operational results. In the first quarter of 2025, our revenues increased by more than 35 per cent YoY – our highest to date as a listed company. Growth was driven by strong performance across our product segments and key markets,' the statement added. 'Commodity transaction volumes almost doubled compared to the same period last year – in a reflection of the successful execution of our diversification strategy and the increased output from our recent acquisitions. We also delivered healthy profitability in the quarter with our net profit growing by approximately 23 per cent YoY. 'Looking ahead, we are confident in sustaining this growth trajectory throughout the remainder of the year. Our broader geographic reach and continued focus on vertical integration position us well to capitalise on the strong fundamentals and rising food demand across our markets.'

'Abu Dhabi has firmly positioned itself as a premier destination for luxury and lifestyle-led investments,' said Evgeny Ratskevich, CEO of Metropolitan Capital Real Estate. 'We have witnessed investors initially seeking to purchase a single property, ultimately expanding their portfolios due to a strong belief in the market's potential. We are also seeing an increase in the number of long-term residents who are opting to purchase properties in the market,' he added. The uptick is attributed to a fundamental shift in demand for luxury real estate, where high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) are increasingly prioritising brand trust, service standards and experiential living over traditional property features. 'Branded residences aren't just for globe-trotting investors anymore – they're now the dream address for end-users who want to live like they're always on vacation,' said Kalpesh Kinariwala, founder of Pantheon Development, in an exclusive interview with Arabian Business. 'Dubai's buyers want lifestyle with a logo. RAK's buyers want first-mover bragging rights.' The global branded residences sector has recorded 410 per cent growth over the past decade, with the UAE leading the charge in the Middle East and North Africa region. 'In a world where brand trust equals value, that premium is not only justified—it's strategic.' The investment case has proven particularly robust, with branded properties offering what Kinariwala describes as 'more predictable, resilient, and future-proof returns' compared to traditional luxury developments. According to a recent report from Metropolitan Capital Real Estate (MCRE), at least 25 branded residences are expected to be announced in Abu Dhabi this year, amounting to a sharp increase from 2024. The secondary luxury market has also recorded a 158 per cent increase in transaction volume year-on-year. According to Ratskevich, property prices in branded projects now average AED 2,500 to AED 4,000 per square metre, based on location, which is significantly lower than comparable properties in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, making it attractive for international investors. High-profile branded properties including the Jacob & Co Beachfront Residences, , Elie Saab Waterfront, and Nobu Residences – which achieved a record-breaking penthouse sale of AED 137 million are contributing to the country's growth as a hub for luxury real estate. Demographic shift toward end-users The branded residences market is witnessing a fundamental demographic transformation, evolving from purely investment-driven trophy assets to lifestyle-first purchases by actual residents. 'What started as a trophy asset for global investors is now attracting high-end users who want to live a branded lifestyle, not just own it,' Kinariwala said, highlighting the shift towards primary and secondary home purchases by high-net-worth families from Europe, India, Russia, and GCC countries. In Dubai, particularly, the trend is strong, with buyers increasingly seeking branded residences as primary homes. Meanwhile, Ras Al Khaimah is particularly investment-led, driven by tourism growth and early access to upcoming landmark developments. Abu Dhabi has also seen a shift in investor demographics, with UK, US, UAE nationals and other GCC citizens replacing Russian and CIS investors as primary buyers.
