Nashik civic body's city bus service records highest-ever daily income of ₹44 lakh in ticket sales
Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal
Ltd, the transport wing of the
Nashik Municipal Corporation
, recorded an income of ₹ 44 lakh on Aug 12 (Monday) through the sale of tickets, marking the highest daily income since operations began in July 2021.
Over 1.1 lakh passengers travelled by city buses on Aug 12, which was the third Monday of the
Shravan month
. The previous highest daily earning was ₹ 35.4 lakh, recorded on Sept 4, 2023, during the Shravan month that year.
The third Shravan Somwar is a major event that attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to Trimbakeshwar, home to one of India's 12 Jyotirlingas. Pilgrims from across the country visit the temple and take a holy dip in the Kushawarta kund.
"We deployed more buses on the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar route on the occasion of the third Shravan Somwar on Aug 12, and all the buses that ran on the route were fully occupied. This is the reason the city bus service recorded the highest daily earnings through the sale of tickets with a footfall of 1.14 lakh passengers," said Pradeep Chaudhari, the additional commissioner of NMC and CEO of the NMPML.
NMC took over the city bus service from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on July 8, 2021, deploying 27 buses on 11 routes with an initial footfall of 5,000 passengers per day and an average daily income of ₹ 1.3lakh.
There has been a significant rise in passenger occupancy over the past four years. The footfall has reached an average of 70,000 passengers per day, and income has increased to an average of ₹ 21 lakh per day, according to NMC officials.
Most commuters regularly use the city bus service, with some opting for buses over personal vehicles to reach their workplaces. Additionally, the number of students obtaining bus passes at concessional rates has risen in recent months.
NMPML operates a total of 250 buses across the city through two private agencies on a procure, operate, and maintain basis. In addition to 60 routes, NMC operates city buses in rural areas such as Trimbakeshwar, Pimpalgaon, Sinnar, Ozar, Sayyad Pimpri, Mohadi, Saikheda, and other nearby rural destinations, covering nearly 27 bus terminals, two bus depots, and 1,440 bus stops in both urban and nearby rural areas.

First cable-stayed bridge to be built near Ramkund on Godavari in Nashik
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will construct a 'cable-stayed' bridge near Ramkund on Godavari river in Nashik city to facilitate the movement of devotees during the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. This will be the first bridge of its kind in Nashik, intended for pedestrian use only. A cable-stayed bridge is a type of structure where the deck is supported by cables directly connected to one or more towers. Confirming the development, NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri told TOI, "We have already started preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed cable-stayed bridge near Ramkund. Its cost will be known only after the DPR is complete." The Kumbh Mela Authority has allocated Rs 60 crore to the civic administration for the construction of new bridges on Godavari river in the first phase. More funds are expected to be allocated for the construction of new bridges in the second phase. NMC has already initiated the tender process for the construction of five new bridges, along with the strengthening and widening of the existing Gadge Maharaj bridge and the construction of the down ramp, at Rs 135 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find out: this is how you clean your yoga mat! Another new bridge is to be constructed near Tapovan STP on Godavari river," an official said. The proposed cable-stayed bridge will be in addition to these five new bridges, which aim to alleviate traffic congestion on both sides of the riverbanks during the religious gathering. NMC has set a deadline of March 2027 to complete the construction of the new bridges on Godavari river and its tributaries. The flag hoisting for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela will be held in Oct 2026. Major three Amrit Snans (holy baths) will take place between Aug and Sept 2027. Vidhan Bhavan Extension Gets In-Principle Nod Of Heritage Panel
Nagpur: The heritage conservation committee granted in-principle approval on Wednesday for the long-awaited expansion of Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur — a significant step towards modernising the state legislature's Nagpur seat. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Under the plan, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will hand over approximately 2,000 sq m of its land to the state government. The panel also directed the civic body to coordinate with the Zero Mile redevelopment team to identify alternative land for parking arrangements. The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) will execute the expansion plan. Executive engineer of MSIDC N V Borkar, in a letter dated July 18, 2025, informed the NMC about a detailed presentation on the proposed construction at Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur. According to the government-approved heritage list, the site named "Vidhan Sabha, Nagpur" appears at serial number 15 and is listed under Grade I. The ownership of the heritage site rests with the government of Maharashtra. The meeting, chaired by former divisional commissioner Anoop Kumar, with NMC chief engineer Manoj Talewar as member secretary, also paved the way for the removal of illegal constructions along the historical Jumma Darwaza, popularly known as Gandhi Gate. Gandhibagh zone's assistant municipal commissioner, Ganesh Rathore, will be tasked with removing illegal structures abutting the iconic Jumma Darwaza. The Grade I listed gateway has faced repeated encroachments despite its status as a protected heritage asset. Equally historic was the panel's green light to the Nagpur Improvement Trust's ₹6.70 crore project to restore and beautify the neglected resting place of Gond King Bakht Buland Shah, the 18th-century founder of Nagpur, in Sakkardara. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Grade I heritage site, which also houses the graves of 27 royal family members, had languished in decay for decades. The revival plan promises structural restoration, landscaping, and amenities befitting its historical stature, more than three centuries after the king laid the city's foundations. The meeting also considered proposals to display historical information at the Zero Mile monument to increase public awareness, to host the 2025 Mahamarathon at the Grade II listed Kasturchand Park, and to organise Garba events there. The heritage committee, comprising experts, archaeologists, civic engineers, and representatives from INTACH and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), stressed that heritage development and urban expansion must move in tandem, with strict enforcement against encroachments and sensitive planning for public infrastructure.

NMC to raise 400 crore via municipal & green bonds
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now changed its fundraising strategy. Instead of taking out loans from public sector banks, the civic body now plans to raise Rs400 crore through municipal and green bonds. The NMC has submitted a proposal to state govt's urban development department for approval to issue these bonds. As per the plan, municipal bonds will be issued in the first phase, followed by green bonds in the second phase — both within the current financial year. Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, while talking to TOI, confirmed that the earlier plan to secure loans from public sector banks has been cancelled. "We have instead opted to raise funds through municipal and green bonds. We will be raising Rs 200 crore each from municipal and green bonds. The corporation will receive incentives of over Rs 50 crore from the Centre if it raises funds through municipal and green bonds," Khatri said. "The entire Rs 400 crore will be raised in the current financial year. Initially, we will raise funds through municipal bonds and later through green bonds," she added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo The NMC has submitted a Rs15,000 crore plan to state govt for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
