TOTTENHAM are monitoring Joao Palhinha's situation at Bayern Munich.
But any possible move for the former Fulham hardman would likely depend on another central midfielder leaving Spurs.

Palhinha, 30, has fallen down the pecking order at Bayern and could be available for around £22million.
Should Spurs firm up their interest, it would be most likely in the form of a loan approach, yet central midfield is an area where they already have plenty of players.
Thomas Frank has five natural options in the middle of the park, and that is not including No10s James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.
Nor does that include versatile Morgan Gibbs-White, whose £60m switch from Nottingham Forest is in limbo.

Yves Bissouma, 28, is the most likely candidate to exit the club, given he has only 11 months remaining on his contract.
Juventus have been mooted as a possible destination for the Malian.
But SunSport understands a switch to Turkey with Fenerbahce currently seems unlikely.
Rodrigo Bentancur, 28, is also into the final year of his deal but is believed to be in negotiations over fresh terms.

Palhinha earned a £46m move to Bayern last summer after two brilliant seasons at Fulham.
However, he only made six Bundesliga starts in an injury-hit debut term with the German giants.

Ollie Watkins heads Man Utd's two-man striker transfer shortlist as club make decision on transfer for new keeper
The Red Devils are also looking to sell players in order to clear the way for new signings NEXT OF KINS Ollie Watkins heads Man Utd's two-man striker transfer shortlist as club make decision on transfer for new keeper OLLIE WATKINS heads Manchester United's two man striker shortlist. But the Old Trafford side will not get involved in a bidding war for PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, leaving the door open for Chelsea and Manchester City to try to lure the Italian. 6 Ollie Watkins has been in pre-season action for Aston Villa Credit: Getty 6 Gianluigi Donnarumma's PSG future is looking in doubt Credit: Shutterstock Editorial United are weighing up moves for either Aston Villa striker Watkins or Leipzig's Slovenian front man Benjamin Sesko. That rules out any interest in Nicolas Jackson, despite Chelsea being increasingly keen to find a taker for the Senegalese attacker. And any move may only be feasible if United can move on Rasmus Hojlund, preferably on a full-time basis rather than a Marcus Rashford-style loan. With United having spent £130m to give boss Ruben Amorim his two top targets - Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Old Trafford hierarchy do still want a line-leading upgrade. READ MORE ON MAN UTD devilish Man Utd 'looking to hijack Newcastle's Sesko transfer after holding talks' Contact has been made with the entourages of both potential targets, with Watkins' proven Premier League experience a major plus The England striker, 29, has scored 75 top flight goals since moving to Villa Park. Before that, he was part of a successful attacking unit including Mbeumo at Brentford, a further tick in his box While Villa have dismissed all suggestions of an approach and insisted Watkins is not for sale at any price, they did offer him to Arsenal in the January window, before performing a U-turn after selling Jhon Duran instead. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK 6 6 Watkins is more of a box player than Sesko - who was also on Arsenal's summer wishlist - but has proven mobility and running power. At this stage, United are keeping both options open in case one becomes problematic. Man Utd stars baffled after being ordered to wear new high-tech JACKET in sizzling 42C heat on pre-season tour of US The Old Trafford club, aware of Villa's public stance, recognise that negotiations may not be simple and could take until the latter days of the summer window next month. Selling Hojlund, and also commanding fees for Alejandro Garnacho and Antony would make meeting hefty price-tags more likely. Meanwhile, United have shelved their interest in Villa keeper Emi Martinez. A loan offer was made and rejected last week but the club's current position is that Andre Onana will start the season as first choice. And that means no move for Donnarumma, whose contract stand-off with PSG has opened up the prospect he might be available. The Italian, with one year left on his deal with the Champions League winners, is seeking a significant mark-up in his £210,000 per week salary. But United are not willing to go there, meaning they will not rival City - who may lose Ederson and could be reluctant to make new signing James Trafford first choice, and Chelsea as potential Prem contenders. 6 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

Football set to copy completely different sport's approach to VAR with managers to be given massive new responsibility
England footie legend has been a big supporter of the idea for a long time VAR FETCHED Football set to copy completely different sport's approach to VAR with managers to be given massive new responsibility Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FOOTBALL looks set to introduce a cricket and tennis-style challenge system that will completely transform VAR. This new version of VAR allows managers to request reviews on key decisions such as goals, penalties, direct red cards, and cases of mistaken identity. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Football Video Support (FVS) will see referees be asked to review decisions by managers Credit: Shutterstock Editorial The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is reportedly introducing an exciting new 'low cost' review system called Football Video Support (FVS) to Spain's third tier this season. Under FVS each team gets two reviews per game, and if a challenge is successful, they keep it for later use — if not, they lose that chance. Managers could order a review by twirling their finger in the air and giving the fourth official a review card showing the type of decision being challenged. The referee then consults a pitch-side monitor to reassess the incident, speeding up the process and reducing the costs and chaos associated with traditional VAR. Meanwhile, Spain's top women's league, Liga F, could approve the FVS system as soon as this week, potentially becoming the first major league to fully adopt it. This would mark a significant step toward modernising officiating in women's football, with the Women's Super League currently operating without VAR. If FVS proves effective, LaLiga might consider implementing it too, which could see calls for it to be brought to the Prem. 3 The tennis challenge system is called Hawk-Eye, and it's used to review line calls during matches CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Fifa referees chief Pierluigi Collina revealed that the system had already made its debut during last year's Blue Stars/Fifa Youth Cup in Zurich. One of the biggest fans of an 'appeal system' has been Gary Lineker. Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast last year, Lineker explained: "The only way out of this mess, and I think they should keep offside and goal-line technology. "But I think you either scrap the rest of it or, more realistically, you take it to an appeal system. 3 Gary Lineker has called for a challenge-system for years "You limit the amount of times that VAR can interfere. It can not intervene unless someone appeals. "Maybe one appeal a half, but it stops VAR coming into every possible corner that comes in." Prem chiefs tried to sort some of the problems out last season, when they rolled out semi-automated offside technology for the final seven rounds of top flight games.

Man Utd step up Ollie Watkins transfer as Aston Villa star becomes No.1 striker target
Manchester United have already bolstered their attack with the summer captures of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo but Ruben Amorim and Co still want to sign a new No 9 Manchester United are stepping up their bid to sign a striker before the start of the new season – with Ollie Watkins now their first-choice target. United boss Ruben Amorim wants a proven goalscorer to lead his side's attack, with Aston Villa and England striker Watkins seen as the ideal choice to fill the role. This summer United have adopted a policy of signing players with Premier League experience, as evidenced by the recruitment of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. United are continuing that strategy with a move for Watkins, but are understood to be unwilling to meet Villa's £60million valuation of the 29-year-old. There is hope among the United hierarchy that a compromise figure of £40m-£45m for Watkins can be reached with Villa and enable a deal to be struck between the two clubs. Watkins scored 17 goals last season, 16 in the Premier League, with Amorim wanting a striker who can go straight into United's team and start scoring regularly, without needing time to adapt. As well as Watkins, United are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, but the Bundesliga club want around £70m for him and Newcastle are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old Slovenian. United are exploring the possibility of deals for Watkins and Sesko, but a move for Nicolas Jackson has been ruled out due to Chelsea 's £80million asking price for him. While Amorim is keen to get a new striker signed as quickly as possible to give him time to settle in and build up an understanding with his new team-mates, he accepts that negotiations could drag on. In order to fund a move for a striker, United must raise revenue from player sales, with the double sale of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony – both left out of the US tour squad - enough to cover the cost of a new front man. United are also trying to offload Jadon Sancho and Tyrrell Malacia, who joined Garnacho and Antony in being left behind by Amorim, while Marcus Rashford 's loan move to Barcelona has saved around £12m, with the Spanish giants covering his wages for the whole of next season. United's determination to sign a new striker casts doubt over the future of Rasmus Hojlund, who struggled last season, scoring just 10 goals from 52 appearances in all competitions. Villa sources insist Watkins is not for sale, but they wanted £60m from Arsenal in January, before changing their stance when Jhon Duran left to join Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.
