NSBPD and our law enforcement partners are committed to ensuring that our community remains safe, and anyone engaging in criminal activity will face serious consequences," police said in a social media post.
What we know
Police said a 14-year-old boy from Orlando was spotted shooting roosters with a BB gun near the Coronado Civic Center in New Smyrna Beach. No roosters or people were hurt.
The boy was arrested on a charge of felony cruelty to animals. He was also charged with a probation violation stemming from a domestic battery charge, police said. An image of the gun pulled from bodycam video was included in the post.
Another juvenile was arrested on Monday for allegedly pulling out a gun during a fight with other kids, New Smyrna Beach police said in a Facebook post. That incident happened in the Flagler Avenue beach lot.

Man flown to hospital after becoming trapped in Kingston drainage vault, officials say
Plymouth County crews rescued a man who became trapped in a concrete drainage vault on Wednesday afternoon. According to Kingston Police, the entrapment occurred around 1:44 p.m. in the area of Marion Drive near Gallen Way. Firefighters found the man trapped in a 10x10 drainage vault with several feet of water inside. After about 35 minutes, the Plymouth County Technical Rescue team was able to free the man from the trench. The victim was flown to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. In short, the claim was a mixture of true, false and undetermined information. In early June 2025, for the third year in a row, Louisiana lawmakers rejected a bill that would have added exceptions for rape to the state's abortion ban. Namely, the bill would have allowed young rape victims to terminate their pregnancies. However, the proposed legislation did not reference any specific case of a pregnant 9-year-old. The claim stemmed from a statement by Moore, who said she was aware of a 9-year-old girl in her district who had become pregnant. We were unable to independently verify the existence or circumstances of the child mentioned. We reached out to Moore to request more details about the case of the pregnant 9-year-old and will update this story if and when we hear back. Louisiana's abortion ban took effect in 2022 following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. That decision eliminated federal protections for abortion and allowed individual states to set their own laws. Moore stated that she was "aware of a nine year old, in [her] area, pregnant" and that she was struggling to reconcile her feelings about the case with her religious beliefs.
