AliExpress Launches EV Sales in the UAE
Jun 12, 2025
AliExpress has officially launched its first electric vehicle (EV) sales channel in the UAE, allowing customers to purchase EVs entirely online. The launch is part of the platform's Summer Sale campaign and marks a regional first for e-commerce-based automotive retail.
Vehicles are available through the site's 'Big Save Channel', with brands including BYD, Geely, Jetour, and Toyota. Once purchased, the EVs are delivered via sea freight directly from China, with all logistics and shipping handled through AliExpress's integrated platform.
The initiative supports the UAE's broader environmental and economic goals under Vision 2031, particularly as the country ramps up infrastructure and incentives to support low-emission transport. As of 2024, the UAE has had more than 147,000 electric and hybrid vehicles on its roads, as well as a 25% year-on-year rise in EV registrations.
According to AliExpress, the new service aims to streamline access to EVs across income levels, combining convenience with the growing demand for sustainable mobility options.
AliExpress plans to expand EV sales to other GCC countries in the coming months.

Kuwait Opens Tourist Visa‑On‑Arrival for All GCC Residents
Visitors no longer need to apply ahead of time or meet specific job criteria - now a passport and proof of residency are enough to cross the border. Anyone living in a GCC country with a valid residency permit of at least six months can obtain a tourist visa on arrival in Kuwait. The new regulation replaces a 2008 policy that limited entry to certain professions and excluded many residents from quick access. Under the updated rule, tourism to Kuwait becomes simpler for longtime residents of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. Visitors no longer need to apply ahead of time or meet specific job criteria - now a passport and proof of residency are enough to cross the border. Contextually, the change comes as Kuwait joins other GCC nations in making regional travel smoother. It follows the launch of the country's revamped e‑Visa platform and fits within a wider shift in Gulf policy towards more inclusive mobility in tandem with the anticipated launch of a unified GCC tourist visa

e& deploys GCC's first Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU, advancing 5G network sustainably - Middle East Business News and Information
Abu Dhabi, August 2025 – e& UAE has deployed the GCC's first Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU, an advanced radio unit from Huawei, on its live 5G network. This new technology not only improves how 5G networks perform but also uses less energy and reduces the amount of equipment needed, delivering a better, more sustainable experience for customers across the UAE. Abdulrahman Al Humaidan, Senior Vice President/Access Network Development, e& UAE, said: 'This deployment is a breakthrough in compact, high-performance network technology and an important marker on our road to net zero by 2030 and 5G-Advanced. By merging two key 5G frequency bands into a single, intelligent unit, we've halved the amount of equipment needed at our mobile sites while significantly improving coverage, speed, and energy efficiency. It's a smarter, greener way to deliver better connectivity to our customers.' The Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU combines multiple frequencies (2.6 + 3.5GHz) in a single unit, cutting hardware needs and lowering power consumption by 35 per cent. Smart energy saving features, like symbol-level sleep, further lower energy consumption by an additional 15 per cent during low traffic periods. Using advanced antenna technology with double the capacity of traditional units, 384 antenna units compared to 192 units, the coverage capability is improved significantly, strengthening indoor signals, and enhancing connectivity in busy areas by 30 to 60 per cent. Unlike traditional setups that require separate installations for each band, this integrated solution reduces equipment footprint by 60 per cent and halves the deployment time, making network rollouts quicker and more efficient. As 5G progresses, technologies like Dual-Band 64T64R MetaAAU are instrumental in creating a more connected and energy-efficient future for the UAE and pave the way for 5G-Advanced connectivity. This deployment reinforces e& UAE's commitment to building smarter, more sustainable 5G networks that cater to both customer needs and the nation's digital future.

UAE's NRTC acquires Egypt's Al Hashemeya Farms - Economy
UAE-based NRTC Food Holding LLC, a leading fruit and vegetable trading company in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has acquired Al Hashemeya Farms—one of the largest privately operated agricultural estates in Egypt—located in Wadi El-Natrun, the company announced Monday. Founded in 1973, NRTC supplies retailers, hospitality groups, healthcare institutions, airlines, and individual consumers through wholesale channels and its e-commerce platform, NRTC Fresh. The acquisition marks a strategic step in NRTC's long-term vision to secure a sustainable supply of fresh produce and strengthen food security across the region through upstream agricultural integration. 'This acquisition is a pivotal milestone in our journey to control quality at the source, invest in food system resilience, and deliver fresher, better produce to our customers,' stated NRTC CEO Mohammed Al Refaee. Expanding agricultural footprint Al Hashemeya spans approximately 10,000 acres, with 70 percent currently under cultivation. Its crop portfolio includes citrus fruits, olives, mangoes, grapes, dates, wheat, and sugar beet. The estate features over two million fruit trees and is equipped with centre-pivot irrigation systems and solar-powered water infrastructure. With an annual output of up to 70,000 tonnes, the farm significantly expands NRTC's agricultural base, allowing direct control over quality and reducing reliance on third-party suppliers. Strengthening food security The acquisition enables NRTC to better manage supply chain risks, enhance resilience, and contribute to regional food security efforts across the GCC. It also reflects rising investor interest in Egypt's agribusiness sector, supported by the country's arable land, favourable climate, and proximity to key markets. Future expansion plans NRTC plans to further expand across Africa, targeting scalable, climate-resilient farming models that align with sustainability and economic development goals.
