Kijal assemblyman Razali ordered to enter defence on sedition charge
Judge Norma Ismail made the order after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Razali, 58, who is also the former Bersatu information chief, at the end of the prosecution's case.
"After examining the evidence and submissions of both parties, the court found that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case.
"Therefore, the accused is called to defend himself on this charge," said the judge, who then set the trial date for four days on Sept 26 and 30 and Oct 2 and 3.
The proceedings were attended by deputy public prosecutors Datuk Badiuszaman Ahmad and Muhammad Amir Hannif Ahijman, and lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, representing Razali, who is also the Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman.
On Nov 24, 2023, Razali pleaded not guilty to making a speech of a seditious nature between 9.30pm and 11.30pm on Nov 10 of the same year at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery at Padang Astaka Chukai, Kemaman in Terengganu.
He was charged under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years or both, if convicted. - Bernama

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : A Bersatu associate wing leader says government Indian MPs who lack the courage to speak up about the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) should resign immediately following a DAP lawmaker's view that Mitra had failed to help Indians most in need. Earlier today, Klang MP V Ganabatirau told the Dewan Rakyat that Mitra had been hampered by frequent leadership changes, bureaucracy and the lack of long-term planning. He also said funds often failed to reach those most in need and accused some ministries of treating Mitra as an 'emergency fund' rather than a proper development agency. In a statement, Bersatu associate wing vice-chief R Sri Sanjeevan said Ganabatirau's admission confirmed that Mitra had become a 'political tool and a crony project hub, not a saviour for the community'. 'This is not just Mitra's failure – this is a moral failure of all Indian elected representatives in the government,' said Sanjeevan. 'They were chosen to be the voice of the people, but in the end, they have become enablers of weaknesses and abuse of power. 'Indian MPs in the government who lack the courage to speak up should immediately resign. Don't put on a show pretending to speak out about Mitra just to gain popularity and votes from the Indian community.' Apart from calling for a forensic audit to be conducted on all of Mitra's expenditure since its establishment, Sanjeevan also said all Mitra projects that had failed to meet their objectives should be made public. Last week, Mitra chairman P Prabakaran said the agency's past failures were due to a lack of continuity, which he said disrupted long-term efforts to uplift the Indian community. Prabakaran told the Dewan Rakyat that over the past decade, Mitra and its predecessor, the Socioeconomic Development of the Indian Community Unit, had seen frequent changes in leadership and policies. However, Prabakaran said under his tenure, he had ensured that Mitra's direction was aligned with national policies – and not individual preferences. The Batu MP took over as Mitra chairman in February 2024.

Witness denies police beat suspects, forced confession in Palestinian kidnapping case
KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer denied in the High Court here today that two suspects in a Palestinian man's kidnapping case were severely beaten by police, resulting in serious injuries such as a torn tongue during their arrest at a chalet in Hulu Langat three years ago. ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, 42, currently attached to the Intelligence and Operations Division of the Dang Wangi police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department, testified under cross-examination by defence lawyer Norma Goh Kim Lian. The eight accused in the case are Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid, 44; Mohamad Naziree Mustapha, 44; Faizull Hardey Mohd Isa, 45; Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis, 30; Mohd Zaidi Mohd Zain, 59; Nidarahayu Zainal, 39; Raibafie Amdan, 44; and Edy Ko'im Said, 45. Goh: I state to you that during the time in room 110, the fifth and sixth accused, Mohamad Naziree and Faizull Hardey, were severely beaten by your team, sustaining serious injuries, including a torn tongue and bodily injuries. They were beaten and forced to confess involvement in the kidnapping, which they denied. Do you agree? Mohamad Jazlan: I do not agree. Goh: Do you agree that when the fourth (Tengku Arif Bongsu), fifth (Mohamad Naziree), and sixth (Faizull Hardey) accused were arrested in room 110, they did not attempt to flee? Mohamad Jazlan: Yes, that is correct. Mohamad Jazlan, the lead officer in the raid, testified that the arrests were made for investigative purposes. "Further investigation involves a police report filed by a Palestinian man, and to my knowledge, there was no physical assault involved," the witness told deputy public prosecutor Mohd Sabri Othman. The trial before Judge K. Muniandy will resume on Oct 15. All eight accused are jointly accused of abducting a 31-year-old victim at the same time and place to obtain confidential information on creating and disabling software used to hack mobile phones. They were charged under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries between 30 and 40 years' imprisonment and caning upon conviction. Meanwhile, Tengku Arif Bongsu, along with married couple Nidarahayu and Raibafie, face an additional 19 charges involving over RM250,000 under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. – Bernama
