Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule, known for her 1995 hit single "I Kissed a Girl", has died at the age of 66 after a fire broke out at her home, a representative has confirmed.

The singer-songwriter sadly died in a blaze inside a home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, May 1, as confirmed by a representative to Variety. Jill was scheduled to perform in Denver on Friday at Swallow Hill Music's Tuft Theater with a show titled "Jill Sobule presents: Songs From F--k 7th Grade and More."
Now the theater will host an informal gathering led by her friend Ron Bostwick from 105.5 FM in light of her passing, reports the Mirror. Her manager, John Porter, released a heartfelt statement to the publication, which read: "Jill Sobule was a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture."
He went on to express his personal loss: "I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client and a friend today. I hope her music, memory, and legacy continue to live on and inspire others", reports the Mirror US.
Jill's booking agent, Craig Grossman, spoke about how funny she was. He noted: 'I was fortunate enough to get to know Jill beyond a professional relationship. No one made me laugh more. Her spirit and energy shall be greatly missed within the music community and beyond.'
Ken Hertz, Jill's longtime attorney, also shared his sentiments about hoe she was like family to him. He added: "Jill wasn't just a client. She was family to us. She showed up for every birth, every birthday, and every holiday. She performed at our daughter's wedding, and I was her 'tech' when she performed by Zoom from our living room (while living with us) during the pandemic."
The songstress was born in Denver in 1959 and first made her mark on the music scene in 1990 with her debut album, "Things Here Are Different." Five years on, Jill dropped her eponymous album Jill Sobule, which featured her groundbreaking track "I Kissed a Girl."
This was one of the first openly LGBTQ+ songs to make it into the Billboard Top 20. The album also boasted her popular single "Supermodel."
Jill was a staunch human rights advocate, using her music as a platform to address challenging issues such as capital punishment, anorexia nervosa, shoplifting, reproduction and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary Ellen Sobule, and her beloved nephews, Ian Matthew and Robert and Robert's wife Irina. She is also survived by numerous beloved cousins and countless friends.
There will be a formal memorial celebrating her life and legacy later this Summer.

Despite initially feeling taken aback after seeing Patrick naked in The White Lotus, he quickly reminded himself: 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in Conan and Terminator, so don't complain about it.' Still, he quipped: 'It was a shock to me that you were following my footsteps so closely.' Patrick went on to sidestep talking any further about his nude scene as he pivoted the conversation to how they've both worked with some of Hollywood's biggest directors. The moment sparked a plethora of reactions on social media as many dubbed it bizarre and uncomfortable that Arnold commented about seeing his son in the buff. 'Arnold's just being a dad—hilarious and awkward in the best way. 'The weenie' comment got me [crying with laughter emoji],' one X user tweeted. Another wrote: 'They are so wild and weird and creepy.' 'When your dad's the Terminator, even your nudity gets a performance review!' a third joked. Despite Arnold ruffling some feathers, others praised them for 'interviewing each other and talking about weenies.' Others called that portion of the interview 'the funniest part of the whole segment.' 'You gotta admire the bluntness though. No sugar-coating, just "Yo, what's going on here?!" Patrick defended the gratuitous nudity revolving his character as he pointed out his 'character, from start to finish, is ridiculous and the type of person who absolutely would walk around his room naked without a care in the world.' In order to accept his part in the series, which was filmed in Thailand over a period of seven months, Patrick pushed back his own wedding to fiancée Abby Champion. After informing his bride-to-be about having to delay their walk down the aisle, Patrick gushed on The Drew Barrymore Show that Champion was very supportive. 'She was so happy,' he said. Arnold Schwarzenegger has dropped a huge bombshell about his stint in the Terminator, confessing that he didn't like his most famous catchphrase. The 77-year-old starred as the creepy cyborg assassin in the hit 1984 flick, helmed by James Cameron, and later reprised his role in a string of the sequels. The character is most known for threatening, 'I'll be back', which was voted among the best movie quotes in history by the American Film Institute (AFI). However, sitting down with son Patrick Schwarzenegger to reflect on their separate screen careers, he admitted that he tried to rewrite it before the director shut him down. In a new Variety interview, he told the White Lotus star: 'The old directors were fanatics about 'Study your dialogue and hit the mark.' 'Jim Cameron is like that. I would say, 'I don't like the line 'I'll be back.'' He says, 'What do you mean you don't like the line?' I said, 'It's just weird for a German to say, 'I'll be back.' Why not just say, 'I will be back'?' 'He says, 'Oh, you're trying to tell me how to be a better writer, because I'm not telling you to be a better actor. 'Just say, 'I'll be back.' If you want me to do 10 takes because you feel insecure about it, we can do that. But don't change my writing.'' Thankfully, the line remained the same and has popped up countless times in Arnie's career ever since, including in the other Terminator movies. He went on to reprise his role in sequels Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, before featuring in 2015's Genisys and 2019's Dark Fate. Although the franchise has been hugely successful, the films could have looked very different as OJ Simpson was linked to the main role at one point. Blake Lively makes unexpected move and drops major claims against Justin Baldoni
Blake Lively has withdrawn two of the claims that she made about It Ends With Us director, Justin Baldoni. Lively and Baldoni have been embroiled in a bitter feud since It Ends With Us, a book based on the Colleen Hoover book of the same name, was released in August 2024. In December, following months of speculation, Lively launched legal proceedings against the director with claims stemming from the production of the film. In the legal complaint, she made various allegations, but is now attempting to drop the claims of intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress. The move comes after Baldoni's legal team attempted to gain access to Lively's medical records, reported Variety. The outlet claimed that Baldoni's lawyers are attempting to get the actor to sign a release to her therapy notes and other information relevant to her claim that she suffered 'severe emotional distress and pain, humiliation, embarrassment, belittlement, frustration and mental anguish.' Judge Lewis Liman wrote this morning that Baldoni's motion to compel Lively to release the notes was denied 'because of 'based on the Plaintiff's representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn.' Variety reported the judge commented: 'The parties shall stipulate to whether the dismissal is with or without prejudice, or Lively shall renew her request by formal motion. For avoidance of doubt, if the claims are not dismissed, the Court will preclude Lively from offering any evidence of emotional distress.' This means that Lively's legal team can no longer present evidence of her alleged emotional distress claims. The filing added that Lively is 'only willing to withdraw her claims without prejudice,' and 'refused the Wayfarer Parties' reasonable request that the withdrawal of such claims be with prejudice' Lively's lawyers, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, told Variety that Baldoni's filing was 'a press stunt'. They added: 'The Baldoni-Wayfarer strategy of filing retaliatory claims has exposed them to expansive new damages claims under California law, rendering certain of Ms Lively's original claims no longer necessary. 'Ms Lively continues to allege emotional distress, as part of numerous other claims in her lawsuit, such as sexual harassment and retaliation, and massive additional compensatory damages on all of her claims.' Baldoni's team counter-sued Lively's team for civil extortion, defamation and invasion of privacy in January. More Trending As the pair's legal teams continue to exchange barbs, the most recent update in the legal battle was in May, as pop star Taylor Swift was pulled into the dispute. Baldoni's lawyer (Bryan Freedman) alleged in a letter that Lively's lawyer threatened to leak private messages between the actress and Taylor if the singer did not release a statement supporting her. This letter was later struck from the docket. It was also alleged that Swift encouraged Baldoni to accept script rewrites by Lively.
