
Synology unveils compact, high-performance storage solutions
Both models are intended to address the growing requirements for efficient data management and enhanced collaboration within modern business environments.

To support high-demand tasks, the DS1525+ and DS1825+ are equipped with dual 2.5GbE Ethernet ports. The DS1525+ supports upgrades to 10GbE connectivity via the E10G22-T1-Mini module, while the DS1825+ features a PCIe 3.0 slot suitable for 10GBASE-T or 10/25GbE SFP+/SFP28 network cards. This allows both systems to cater to users seeking advanced networking capabilities.
Each model features two M.2 slots, enabling users to configure an all-flash cache or a storage pool for workloads that require higher performance. Performance tests showed that the DS1825+ achieved sequential SMB throughput rates of up to 2,239 MB/s read and 1,573 MB/s write using SSDs. The DS1525+ reached up to 1,181 MB/s read and 1,180 MB/s write.
Scalability is a fundamental aspect of the new models. Businesses can expand storage capacity with the addition of up to two 5-bay DX525 expansion units. This expansion allows the DS1525+ to reach up to 300 TB of raw storage and the DS1825+ up to 360 TB, when populated with compatible drives. The DS1525+ supports up to 15 drives and the DS1825+ up to 18 drives when fully expanded with the expansion units.
The systems come with a drive compatibility framework supported by over 7,000 hours of testing to ensure consistent performance and reliability. Synology has stated that DiskStation Manager (DSM) installation on the DS1525+ and DS1825+ requires compatible hard drives to maintain long-term dependability and integration.
For business users requiring flexibility, the units run on Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM), which offers a suite of applications to meet various needs. Key features include Synology Drive, which turns the system into a private cloud, supporting cross-platform file access and site-to-site synchronisation for distributed teams.
Another significant feature is Active Backup Suite. This provides comprehensive protection for Windows, Linux, and MacOS devices, virtual machines, and cloud accounts, with options for flexible off-site backup.
Surveillance Station is also available, providing scalable video management and real-time intelligent analytics for the security of physical assets.
The DS1825+ and DS1525+ are available globally through Synology's network of partners and resellers. Raw storage capacity calculations for each system are based on installing 20 TB drives. Usable storage may differ depending on hardware and specific RAID configurations. Drive expansion capabilities are subject to compatible hardware, with separate DX525 expansion units available to increase total drive count and capacity.
A third-party validation programme is also available by request, enabling manufacturers to test and certify their drives with Synology's standards for compatibility and reliability.

Synology has introduced new data management, protection, and cloud solutions at COMPUTEX 2025, engaging Australia and New Zealand channel partners in Taipei to examine regional development opportunities. The company unveiled its expanded solution lineup, highlighting offerings aimed at enterprise storage, data protection, video surveillance, on-premise productivity, and personal private cloud systems. "At Synology, our goal has always been to build a data management ecosystem our customers can trust," said Philip Wong, Chairman and CEO of Synology. "We design our solutions to offer not only unparalleled ease of use, but also industry-leading security, reliability, and data privacy, empowering both organisations and individuals to manage their data with confidence." This year's showcase held added importance for the Australia and New Zealand region, with Synology's regional partners and distributors attending for direct engagement with the company's global team. The meetings enabled the exchange of market information and exploration of collaborative growth prospects within the region. Key products on display included the new PAS7700 flagship enterprise storage platform. According to Synology, the PAS7700 is equipped with a dual-controller, active-active architecture intended to maintain non-disruptive service operations. Featuring built-in 3-2-1-1 data replication, the device prioritises security and data integrity throughout its architecture. It utilises an all-NVMe design yielding up to 2 million IOPS and sub-millisecond latency, with Synology stating these capabilities represent up to three times the performance of earlier models. The company also announced the extension of its data protection portfolio with the DP7200 appliance in the ActiveProtect range. This new device can function as a standalone backup server for branch locations or as a CMS host at central offices. Synology noted that DP7200 delivers unified data protection for workloads across an organisation. Key features include embedded immutability and network isolation mechanisms to ensure recoverable backup copies and mitigation against cyber threats. Expanding its surveillance offering, Synology introduced C2 Surveillance, a cloud-based video management system. This platform is designed for NVR-less deployments and supports scalable, multi-site operations. It provides centralised cloud management, integrates with Windows Active Directory, and implements role-based permission delegation. C2 Surveillance is equipped for local edge recording and includes an offline failover capability to sustain monitoring during disruptions. On the productivity front, Synology presented ChatPlus and Synology Meet—two new applications hosted on the company's private cloud infrastructure. ChatPlus enables secure team communications with detailed permission and channel management, while Synology Meet offers enterprise video conferencing. Both products are designed to ensure data ownership and privacy for users. In the personal cloud segment, the company launched BeeStation Plus, intended for family use. The system offers automated backup for iCloud Photo Libraries, integration with Plex Media Server for video streaming, and supports both local snapshot-based recovery and offsite cloud backup through BeeProtect. BeeStation Plus will also extend into smart home surveillance when integrated with the CC400W camera. The related mobile application will provide functionalities such as human and pet detection, ambient sound monitoring, tampering alerts, and real-time notifications for everyday events. Synology launches PAS7700 NVMe storage for high demand firms
Synology has unveiled the PAS7700, an active-active, end-to-end NVMe storage system aimed at enterprises managing primary storage and workloads critical to their operations. The PAS7700 features a dual-controller setup and incorporates 48 NVMe SSD bays within a 4U chassis. It supports scaling up to 1.65 PB of raw capacity with the integration of seven additional expansion units. The device is designed to accommodate a wide range of file and block protocols, including NVMe-oF. According to Synology, the PAS7700 offers memory that can be expanded up to 2,048GB, along with support for 100GbE networking. This configuration is intended to deliver high throughput and availability that meet modern enterprise data storage requirements. The PAS7700's active-active dual-controller architecture is described as providing uninterrupted operations at all system levels, encompassing storage media, memory, system processes, network, and protocols. The system incorporates built-in 3-2-1-1 protection features, which include immutable snapshots, replication, and options for offsite tiering and backup, all intended to protect data integrity. Performance figures provided by Synology indicate that the PAS7700 is designed to achieve up to 2 million IOPS and 30GB/s sequential throughput. "PAS7700 is the culmination of Synology's 25 years of engineering experience in data management and storage," said Kenneth Hsu, Director of the System Group at Synology. "By combining our deep software and hardware development expertise with close collaboration with partners and enterprise customers, we've engineered PAS7700 to deliver ultra-high performance at a price point previously unseen in the enterprise storage market." The system leverages an end-to-end NVMe design to reach low latency performance measured in milliseconds, which is particularly relevant for demanding enterprise workloads. Synology states that, in addition to performance benefits, the PAS7700 supports its suite of applications, such as Synology Drive and Synology Office, leading to a threefold increase in the maximum number of concurrent users compared to the company's prior product lines. Cost efficiency is a highlighted aspect of the PAS7700, with Synology stating it combines primary storage-grade performance and reliability with mainstream storage costs. The device includes both inline and offline deduplication functions, designed to allow organisations to balance storage efficiency with application performance. The PAS7700 is scheduled to become available in the second half of 2025. Synology notes that the performance figures cited are based on its internal testing, and that actual results may vary depending on operational conditions, system usage, and configuration specifics. Synology indicates that the system's overall design and feature set are based on continual development in response to partner and enterprise customer input over several years. The machine's security and data protection features position it for use in settings where high availability and business continuity are priorities.
