Stevens County deputies kill suspect in standoff near Northport
According to a sheriff's office news release, the subject of the arrest warrant exited the residence with a firearm on his hip and refused orders to surrender. The sheriff's crisis negotiator was called in, but the man fled the residence on foot after deputies attempted to de-escalate. Deputies followed him, continued to give commands, then deployed a nonlethal pepper ball.
The man then pulled his firearm, and "lethal force was utilized to stop the threat," the news release said. Deputies immediately rendered medical aid, and the man was transported to the Colville hospital where he died a short time later.
Washington State Patrol's Criminal Investigation Division will lead an investigation.

Troopers spotted the driver heading westbound on I-90 across the floating bridge. B.C. man dies after being struck by pickup truck while on U.S. long-distance run
A Surrey, B.C., man has died after he was hit by a pickup truck while participating in a long-distance run south of the border on Saturday morning. The Washington State Patrol says that Hui Li, 55, died following the collision, which occurred just after 3:30 a.m. PT on Saturday at Whidbey Island, Wash. It came as he was participating in the Ragnar Northwest Passage race, which runs from Blaine, Wash., to Langley on Whidbey Island. The relay race covers a distance of just over 310 kilometres (193.1 miles) over two days. Brad Bulloch, a spokesperson for the Washington State Patrol, said that impairment is not suspected in the crash. "It was eventually determined the pedestrian, or the runner, had stepped out of the designated racing area on the shoulder and into the southbound lane of Highway 20," he told CBC News in an interview. The spokesperson said that cones had been set up to separate runners from vehicles on the highway, though he did not know if there were cones specifically at the spot where the collision occurred. Bulloch said that the driver was co-operative with police, and Li succumbed to his injuries in a Seattle hospital after the crash. The trooper added that his family had been notified of the death.

Man finds gift-wrapped, severed human toe on Father's Day beach walk
A Tacoma, Washington, man found a gift-wrapped severed human toe while celebrating Father's Day at a beach with his wife and two small children. While searching the beach at Dash Point State Park for feathers on June 15, Kevin Ewing happened upon a weathered package containing a small pine box that'd been wrapped in green cloth and tied closed with yellow string. Assuming it was a lost Christmas present, Ewing opened it, eventually finding a severed adult human big toe, reported the Federal Way Mirror. 4 The rotting toe is being DNA tested. 'It took me a few minutes to kind of be like, 'Is this what I think it is?' Then, once it dawned on me that that's what it was, I set everything down Nearby, Ewing spotted a dead seagull that appeared to be mutilated. He is unsure if the two are connected. Before bringing the toe to police, he took pictures of his gruesome find, which he shared with the Federal Way Mirror. The toe definitely did not look like it was amputated. It definitely didn't look like a surgeon had taken it off,' he said. 'It didn't look like a very clean medical cut.'
