New Delhi:
Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja's love story began when she was still in school and he had just completed college. In a recent interview, Sunita opened up about the early days of their relationship and the resistance they faced from her family.
What's Happening
Speaking to Galatta India, Sunita recalled that her parents were not supportive of her relationship with Govinda, especially when it began affecting her academics.
She shared a memory from her school days, saying, "I was in 8th standard and I failed the class. I didn't tell my mother about it, and by then, I was already in a relationship with Govinda. I lied to my mother saying that I have passed. So my mom, she heated up a tawa (pan) and she burnt me here (points at her cheek bone), and she questioned me about my lies. My mom was very strict. She pushed me to study but I hated it. I would just fall asleep whenever I opened my books."
Sunita also shared another childhood incident, saying, "My older sister, once she was trying to make me study, and I was hating it. So I took a blade and cut her thigh with it." She added that although she did not enjoy studying, she had a liking for maths because she "loved money."
Background
Sunita and Govinda got married in 1987. Their marriage was kept secret for the first year and was made public only after the birth of their daughter, Tina.
Sunita also revealed that her father was strongly opposed to their relationship and did not attend the wedding. "When I got married to Govinda, he had a big family. I got married when I was just 18. I was 19 when Tina was born so I was still a child when I had the baby," she told Hauterrfly.
In the same interview, Tina spoke about the contrast between her parents' backgrounds. She said, "My mom used to wear hot pants, lived in Pali Hill, came from a very rich background. My dad was not that financially strong. He was struggling from Virar. My maternal grandfather was very well to do comparatively. It was a very Bollywood story where he told my mother, 'Are you crazy? He is an aspiring actor'. He didn't even attend the wedding because he was not too happy with the whole thing."

THIS Popular '90s Track Led To Multiple Arrests Across India

Last Updated: The 1989 Bollywood hit "Oye Oye" from Tridev, directed by Rajiv Rai, became notorious for eve-teasing incidents, leading to arrests. Only in India can a catchy Bollywood track go from chartbuster to police station regular. Interestingly, one of the most popular songs of the '90s didn't just rule the radio, it apparently had a side hustle as… a criminal accomplice! Director Rajiv Rai spilled the masala gossip in an interview with Radio Nasha. He revealed that the track in question wasn't banned but it did get a little notorious. Why? Because people across India started using it for eve-teasing. Yup, every time the beat dropped, so did the decency levels. 'It was not banned, but all of the people were arrested. They started using it for eve-teasing. A lot of people were arrested for catcalling all over the country," Rai said. The peppy chartbuster Oye Oye from the 1989 blockbuster Tridev drew inspiration from Gloria Estefan's global hit Rhythm is Gonna Get You. Composed by the legendary duo Kalyanji-Anandji, with Viju Shah adding his signature flair, the song's infectious beat and high-energy vibe made it an instant favourite. Sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and Suresh Wadkar, Oye Oye lit up the screen with Sonam in the spotlight, alongside the film's stars Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, and Naseeruddin Shah. Tridev was a high-octane action thriller from 1989, directed and co-written by Rajiv Rai. The film boasted a powerhouse cast, including Naseeruddin Shah, Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Sangeeta Bijlani, Sonam, Anupam Kher, and the unforgettable Amrish Puri. A massive hit with both critics and audiences, Tridev became the third highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, trailing only behind Maine Pyar Kiya and Ram Lakhan. At the 35th Filmfare Awards in 1990, it bagged three trophies. The film's popularity even crossed language barriers, inspiring a Telugu remake titled Nakshatra Poratam, starring Suman Talwar, Bhanuchander Prasad, and Arun Pandian. Meanwhile, Rajiv is making a comeback to direction after 21 years with his new film, Zora. The movie stars Ravinder Kuhar, Karan Vir, and Sofia Parveen. The story follows a cop who sets out to find his father's killer two decades after the crime, guided only by a mysterious perfume bottle labeled 'Scent By The Devil". But his hunt for revenge leads him to uncover shocking hidden truths. Rajiv's last film as a director was Asambhav in 2004, starring Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra, before he took a long break from filmmaking. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ranveer Singh Spent 3 Hours Chasing Shaktimaan Role, Says Mukesh Khanna: 'Itna Interested Tha…'

Last Updated: The Shaktimaan movie faces delays as Mukesh Khanna clashes with producers over casting and vows to protect the superhero's legacy. For millions who grew up in the '90s, Shaktimaan was more than just a TV show – it was the ultimate superhero moment of childhood. But the much-anticipated big-screen revival has run into trouble. Mukesh Khanna, the original Shaktimaan, says the planned film trilogy has been halted over 'technical grounds" and disagreements about casting. Speaking to Galatta India, Khanna explained that while Sony International holds the film rights for seven years, he made sure the character's principles stay untouched. 'The IPR is still mine. But, we have given them rights for seven years to make a film. Maine likhva dia hai ki film mein Shaktiman ki aatma change nahi hogi. They have written that we won't change Shaktiman's values." However, the veteran actor revealed he has no binding say in who plays the lead. 'I couldn't get it in written that the actor would be cast with my permission. They have a point now ki hum aapse poochenge zaroor, lekin final call humaari hogi. Yahin mein atak gaya." Mukesh Khanna was clear he would not accept changes that misrepresent the character. 'If Shaktimaan is dancing in a disco and I say that I don't like it, you would still do what you want. Then what's the point of asking me?" Shaktimaan Movie Stuck At Casting The movie's pre-production remains paused, and the issue is stuck on casting. 'Either you change the clause or ask. Without asking me, you can't deflect from Shaktimaan. Abhi toh casting mein atak gaya hai maamla, poori film banaani bachi hai. Everything is stuck on technical grounds. Public is still waiting eagerly for the announcement." The project is ambitious – three films, each with a Rs 150–200 crore budget. Khanna says he won't compromise. 'Aap ram ke role mein raavana dikhne wale ko nahi daal sakte. Shaktimaan ki zarurat hai aaj ke bachon ko. Even I don't know when he will come." Rumours mills have been abuzz about Ranveer Singh playing Shaktimaan. Mukesh Khanna recalled, 'Ranveer came to my office, sat with me for three hours. Very nice meeting, very nice actor and human being. Itna interested tha ki teen ghante tak convince karne ki koshish ki. Ultimately, I always felt that he can't be cast in Shaktimaan's role. I am still rigid on that point." Mukesh Khanna even says he's ready for a legal fight if needed. 'It's a war now. If you won't listen to me, then go and make Shaktimaan without me. I will fight till I can fight. I will take them to court if required. Main Shaktimaan ke gaane aur music release nahi kar sakta, because I sold them to someone by mistake." Shaktimaan was India's first big superhero TV show, aired on Doordarshan from 1997 to 2005. Created and played by Mukesh Khanna, it told the story of Pandit Gangadhar, a kind photographer who gained special powers through deep meditation and his link to the five natural elements. He used these powers to become Shaktimaan, fighting the evil Tamraj Kilvish while keeping his real identity secret. With almost 450 episodes, the show became hugely popular with kids for its action and moral lessons. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mrunal Thakur Calls Bipasha Basu ‘Manly' In Viral Video, Gets Trolled: ‘I'm Far Better Than Her'

Last Updated: In an old interview clip, Mrunal Thakur asked her Kumkum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja to "marry" Bipasha Basu. Mrunal Thakur likely never imagined that a lighthearted moment from years ago would resurface to spark present-day backlash. What happened is that an old interview of the actress recently surfaced on social media, where she was seen playfully teasing her Kumkum Bhagya co-star Arjit Taneja. The clip ignited heated discussions after she made a remark about Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu. In a throwback clip shared on the Bollywood-centric subreddit BollyBlindsNGossip, Mrunal Thakur and her co-star Arjit Taneja were seen giving an interview during their Kumkum Bhagya days. At one point, Arjit playfully dared her to do a headstand, to which she jokingly replied that he could sit while she balanced on her head. Arjit then challenged her again to do push-ups, prompting Mrunal to quip that he might be interested in marrying a strong, muscular woman. How Did The Internet React To Mrunal Thakur's Remark On Bipasha Basu? Mrunal Thakur's remark has now gone viral on the internet, with people divided over what she said about Bipasha Basu. Some people rushed in to defend the Raaz actress, pointing out how some insecure people would target her. A user said, 'She is extremely beautiful, tall, and confident, but certain women seem to get triggered by it because she is dusky and they can't fathom her getting the kind of recognition and attention. It's the same way certain white women feel insecure when women of colour get attention and recognition for being beautiful." Another added, 'Bips is hot, tall and confident. I don't blame these insecure women for being mad; they know they can't match up to her inner and outer hotness." 'The full clip of the interview was far worse; she even taunted Bipasha for looking Manly with muscles," quipped a different user. Meanwhile, people also brought up her conduct in Nach Baliye and the way she acted on the BeerBiceps podcast. Another person also added to the discussion, pointing out her alleged relationship with Tamil star Dhanush. Suggesting that her personality is the reason why the actor is rumoured to be dating Mrunal, the user mentioned, 'No wonder Dhanush sath kyu hai." What's Mrunal Thakur Up To These Days? The 33-year-old actress was most recently seen in Ajay Devgn's comedy drama Son of Sardaar 2. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film, a sequel to the 2011 movie Son of Sardaar, also featured Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Kubbra Sait, Chunky Panday and Sanjay Mishra. As of now, Mrunal Thakur has Dacoit: A Love Story, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Pooja Meri Jaan in the pipeline. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
