South Africa's Klaasen retires from international cricket
"Playing for the Proteas gave me the opportunity to meet great people who changed my life," Klaasen said in a statement issued by Cricket South Africa.
Klaasen scored 2141 runs at an average of 43.69 in 60 one-day internationals, maintaining a strike rate of 117.05. His highest score of 174 was made off 83 balls against Australia at Centurion in 2023.
He scored 1000 runs at a strike rate of 141.84 in 58 Twenty20 internationals.
He also played in four Test matches before he retired from red-ball cricket in 2024.
His ability to score quickly made him a sought-after player in franchise competitions around the world.
He was signed by Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad for a record 23 crore (US$2.69-million) for the 2025 season.
He is expected to continue to be available for franchise cricket.
Enoch Nkwe, South Africa's director national teams, described Klaasen as "a true match-winner for South Africa. He was capable of changing the course of a game in a matter of overs."
Klaasen was not among the players awarded a Cricket South Africa contract in April and the governing body said at the time that discussions regarding his future were ongoing.
South African coach Shukri Conrad said after being appointed white-ball coach last month in addition to his role as Test coach, that he expected players to prioritise playing for South Africa above T20 leagues.

Armand Duplantis breaks his own pole vault world record
Armand "Mondo" Duplantis bettered his pole vault world record by a centimeter on Tuesday, August 12, clearing 6.29 meters at the athletics meet in Budapest. Duplantis, a Swedish-American multiple gold medallist, broke the world record for the 13 th time as he soared over the bar at the second attempt to improve on his 6.28m from Stockholm in June. It was the 25-year-old's third record of 2025, having also cleared 6.27m in the central French city of Clermont-Ferrand in February. Duplantis notched up his 33 rd competition victory, clearing 6.11m on his first attempt to finish ahead of Greece's Emmanouil Karalis (6.02m) and Australia's Kurtis Marschall (5.83m). On his second attempt at 6.29m, Duplantis touched the bar with one leg and his stomach, but it held, and the jump was validated. Since Ukrainian Sergey Bubka became the first athlete to clear 6 meters, in Paris on July 13, 1985, the world record has been broken 26 times, including 12 times by Bubka, 13 times by Duplantis and once by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie. The US-born Duplantis first broke the world record in 2020, with 6.17m. Duplantis is the favorite for a third consecutive outdoor world title in a month's time in Tokyo.

Power-packed David slams 83 as Australia beat South Africa in 1st T20
After being sent in, the hosts were all out for 178 on the final delivery of their 20 overs in the first game of international cricket in Australia's tropical north for 17 years. Cameron Green (35 off 13) was the only other batsman to get going, with left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka bagging 4-20 as South Africa bowled out Australia for the first time in a T20. But David's phenomenal innings proved enough, with the Proteas restricted to 161-9 in reply. That was despite a battling 71 from Ryan Rickelton, who fell to a spectacular Glenn Maxwell catch on the boundary. Josh Hazlewood took 3-27 and Ben Dwarshuis 3-26. "Great way to start the series," skipper Mitchell Marsh said after Australia's ninth T20 victory in a row. "Certainly we want guys like David to come out and bat the way he did, he was the difference." Backing up from a recent 5-0 series sweep against the West Indies, Australia signalled their intent early with Marsh slamming a six off the first ball. But he lost opening partner Travis Head (two) and Josh Inglis (golden duck) in the space of three deliveries and then skied Kagiso Rabada on 13, with Maphaka taking a tricky catch before Green and David let loose. They put on a quickfire 40 for the fourth wicket before Green was undone by a slower ball from Lungi Ngidi. Australia were in trouble on 75-6 when Mitch Owen was out for two and dangerman Maxwell went for one. But David dug in and, with Dwarshuis (17), added 59 for the seventh wicket. David was dropped by Tristan Stubbs on 56, although Stubbs made amends by holding the catch that finally removed the big Australian after a power-packed knock. South Africa's chase started badly with skipper Aiden Markram out to Hazlewood in the first over, and they had lost three wickets for 48 by the sixth over. Rickelton and Stubbs (37) knuckled down in a threatening 72-run stand but Hazlewood struck again with two wickets in an over to shatter their momentum. South Africa's hopes were all but over when Adam Zampa matched Hazlewood's feat in the next over. "It got close, but we were pretty far from our best tonight," Markram said. The second of the three-game series is in Darwin on Tuesday.
