Karl Stefanovic called out by his Today show co-hosts over sickening garbage bin act during commercial break: 'Disgusting'

Daily Mail17-06-2025
Karl Stefanovic shocked his Today show colleagues on Tuesday morning when he ate the scraps of co-star Jayne Azzopardi's discarded breakfast.
The shock moment saw Karl, 50, grab the remains of a quiche that Jayne, 45, had placed into a rubbish bin.
In a video, which appeared to have been captured on a mobile phone, Karl rummaged through the bin and took a bite during a report Jayne was conducting about the Ibis scavenger bird, nicknamed the 'bin chicken', which has developed a reputation for stealing food from wheelie bins.
'Does anyone have any hacks for when your bin doesn't have a lid and it is actually your co-worker eating the food?' Jayne quipped, as the camera cut to Karl grabbing the discarded pastry and appearing to take a bite.
'Karl, that's disgusting!', his co-host Sarah Abo quipped.

'Is nothing private? I devote my life to you and Sarah and you go an do the dirty on me like that,' Karl retorted.
'So for anyone wondering, that is the remains of my breakfast,' Jayne told the studio.
The moment appeared to be a skit by Karl and Jayne, as it coincided with her report on the Ibis bird.
'When the quiche is so good you turn into a bin chicken,' the Today show captioned the footage, which was shared to Instagram.
Karl has developed a reputation for exchanging amusing banter with his co-hosts.
Earlier this month, Karl appeared to take a cheeky dig at Today fill-in co-host Jayne Azzopardi for driving a Mazda.
During the show, Karl and Jayne interviewed four Mazda car salesmen who have gone viral online after posting clips of themselves dancing erotically in order to get more people to the car dealership.
After the men reenacted the dancing video, Karl cooled off Jayne with a fan, teasing her for finding the sexy clip online while 'researching'.
Karl's co-star Sarah Abo labelled the act as 'disgusting'
'Of all the stories in the world...' he quipped.
'I'm a mum! I became a mum and I bought a Mazda,' Jayne told Karl, who retorted: 'Oh mums don't like sexy stuff?'
She went on to say she found the clip because it was Mazda, not because of the sexy dancing.
'Oh, you want a Mazda?' Karl asked his co-host as he lowered his eyebrows.
'No, I drive one already,' she told him.
The host then quipped: 'Oh, well you've gotta get a new one now!'

Wayne Carey gets a sordid new gig after fleeing the country due to scandalous 'toilet tryst' video that was the talk of the footy world

Wayne Carey will be making a meet-and-greet appearance at a strip club shortly after the furore over his appearance in a viral 'toilet tryst' video forced him to flee the country and left him with an embarrassing new nickname. The former North Melbourne star will be holding a 'meet and greet' with patrons at the After Dark Gentlemen's club in Geelong on Friday night. Described as a 'realm of seduction' on its website, After Dark bills itself as 'Geelong's top adult entertainment venue and strip club', with attendees able to see pole dancing and experience 'intimate controlled touching private dances'. Carey outed himself as the footy star who appeared in the viral video that was the talk of Melbourne last month. The footage showed the 54-year-old emerging from the bathroom at the trendy Toorak Cellars bar shortly after Kate Aston, a Melbourne marketing and communications executive, made her exit. A female voice is heard saying 'we've got you on camera' as the woman walks past, before asking 'What's he doing in there?' and remarking, 'She looks embarrassed.' The After Dark Gentlemen's Club is promoting the footy great's new gig just weeks after he was embroiled in a scandal over a viral video Carey and the woman depicted in the clip have lashed out over the video, with the ex-AFL star using his podcast to brand it 's**t shaming' and cyberbullying, with both parties insisting there was no 'tryst' in the toilets. Carey also said he contacted Victoria Police over the video. 'Being filmed without consent coming out of a public bathroom and then filming a complete stranger within a minute coming out of that public bathroom is NOT OK.. Then the persons who are filming adding their disgusting narrative and posting it on social media ruins lives …Enough,' he wrote on X. Carey - who was nicknamed 'Duck' during his playing days - revealed he has been called 'Toilet Duck' since the scandal broke. He also left Australia to get away from the furore, but refused to specify where he'd jetted off to, saying, 'No one knows where you are, and where I am, who I am. Just a beautiful part of the world, this is.' After Dark manager Jimmy Leschke said Carey is now back in Australia and confirmed he is still due to appear. Asked about Carey's ties to the club, Leschke told News Corp 'he was part of the opening of this place'. The two-time premiership winner remarked about the club opening on his podcast at the time, saying 'strip joints are part of a lot of towns, they employ a lot of people' and explaining he was 'going to poke my head in for about seven hours'. Carey did not hold back in his first barrage over the Toorak Cellars video when he confessed to being the man in the footage. 'Annoyed is the wrong word, I've gone through about 10 different emotions in the last three days,' he said on Sam Newman's You Cannot Be Serious podcast. 'I've gone through disbelief, sadness, I've gone through anger. 'This woman has been thrown into this just because I could kick a footy. 'And you've got two vile, disturbing, probably p**sed women who want to do this to another woman. 'That's all they were doing, they were s**t-shaming another woman. 'If two men had done that they would be raked over hot coals, it would be the biggest story going around. 'But because it's two women doing it to another woman … you don't know what's going on, this other woman has had all sorts of stuff going in her life, I've since found out. 'You talk about vile and disgusting, what they've done and who they have affected by a few sh**s and giggles drinking their chardonnay, sitting up there, doing whatever.

Travis Kelce's dad Ed opens up on Taylor Swift's 'beautiful' new album and his 'romantic' son's GQ cover

Ed Kelce has spoken out about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift 's impending podcast release in his first interview since the death of his long-term girlfriend Maureen Maguire. It has been a tough few weeks for the patriarch of the Kelce family, but he was on fine form for a surprise appearance on Australian television on Wednesday, speaking about Taylor's new album, and his son Travis' GQ cover shoot. When asked if he knew pop superstar Swift was dropping her 12th album - The Life of a Showgirl - Ed told Today: 'I knew nothing about this announcement... I knew at some point the boys wanted to get her on the podcast, but I didn't know when it was coming up.' When asked whether he had heard any of the top-secret new music from Taylor's impending album, he insisted: 'No I haven't, not at all', before adding: 'I know Taylor's been working pretty hard since she stopped the tour. 'She's taken some breaks to watch some football games, but she's been out in LA working on this album. My guess is that, although I haven't heard anything, it's going to be like everything else she does, it's going to be beautiful.' More to follow.
