"Desperate to bring blood, tears to people's eyes": HD Kumaraswamy attacks Karnataka govt over rain situation

India Gazette4 days ago

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 30 (ANI): Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday launched a fierce attack on the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka, accusing it of mishandling the rain situation and questioning him as to why preventative measures were not taken before the downpours.
Kumaraswamy slammed the state government and said it was desperate to bring 'blood and tears' to the public's eyes as relentless torrential rains disrupt normal lives.
'Relentless torrential rains across the state, including the coastal belt, have severely disrupted daily life. People are left in tears. Instead of acting responsibly and wiping their tears, the Karnataka government seems desperate to bring blood and tears to their eyes! Homes, roads, and bridges have collapsed. Cities, towns, and villages are waterlogged, and people are in deep distress. What steps has the government taken to protect the lives of people who are already on the brink?' posted Kumaraswamy on X.
'What is the point if, after lives are lost to the floods, the Chief Minister merely instructs ministers to go visit? As the saying goes, What's the use of bolting the door after the fort has been looted? What preparations were made before the rains began? Is this what people-centric governance looks like? Is this what it means to walk the talk?' questioned Kumaraswamy on X.
'The Congress government shows no concern about the torrential downpour in the coastal region, but exhibits excessive interest in coastal murders, 'not to prevent them, but to extract political gain' even from those tragedies! CM Siddaramaiah, you have been in power for two years. You have spent this time blaming other parties. Since you assumed office, how many murders have taken place in the coastal region? Why haven't they been curbed? Didn't one community vote for your party 100%?' his post said.
'You have failed to protect them, yet you continue to spew venom against other communities. You have turned a once peaceful garden of communities into a garden of venomous snakes. Siddaramaiah..., enough of your government's excuses. Visit the coastal region immediately. Give strength and hope to the people shattered by both floods and murders,' he added.
His post further said, 'While the floods may be nature's fury, the murder spree is a political disaster fueled by your party. As Chief Minister, this is your immediate responsibility.'
Meanwhile, as heavy rains lashed parts of Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has assured citizens that the government is fully prepared to address any emergencies.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Shivakumar outlined the proactive measures being taken by the state to manage the situation and told the media that all deputy commissioners have been asked to take the required action, and state ministers will be at their headquarters to look over the situation.
'We have called all the deputy commissioners and asked them to take action. For emergency cases, we have authorised all the deputy commissioners and the officers to be alert. After the meeting, all the Ministers must be in their headquarters and help the people because we can't avoid nature...,' he said.
The IMD said that rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are likely over northwest India for the next 4-5 days due to the western disturbance.
It also predicted that heavy rainfall would likely continue over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, with isolated extremely heavy falls over Kerala on May 30 and reduced thereafter. (ANI)

In meetings with world leaders, all-party delegations convey India's policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism

'We can talk to them in Hindustani. We can talk to them in Punjabi. We can talk to them in English. There is no problem in finding common ground with Pakistan. The problem is finding a common vision for decency, for peace. We want to be left in peace, to grow and develop. They don't want to leave us alone. They want to harass us,' he said. 'I would say in all four countries, we've had a very, clear success, if that's the word, I don't like to boast of success. That's for others to judge. But we have got our message through very clearly, including to those who may have had some misunderstandings,' he said, referring to Colombia. Earlier, Tharoor said Colombia withdrew a statement offering condolences to Pakistan for the loss of lives following Indian strikes in response to the Pahalgam attack after his delegation explained Islamabad's relentless support to cross-border terrorism. The delegation held a highly productive meeting with Senator Nelsinho Trad, President of the India-Brazil Friendship Front and President of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. The delegation also met Labour Party India Friendship Groups-including Labour Friends of India, Labour Convention of Indian Organisations, Sikhs for Labour, and Hindus for Labour. Another all-party delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, concluded its three-day visit to Spain, where it held a series of meetings with officials and civil society representatives to highlight India's 'zero-tolerance' stance against terrorism. 'The delegation concluded its visit having effectively communicated India's strategic approach and firm message of zero tolerance towards terrorism to Spanish government leaders, lawmakers, civil society and the Indian diaspora, strengthening bilateral ties and mutual understanding,' the Embassy of India in Madrid said Tuesday. In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to peace as it thanked an all-party Indian delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, for the briefing on New Delhi's approach to combating terrorism. Thunder-Blunder: BJP Hits Back At Rahul Gandhi Over Narendra-Surrender Remark

Congress Leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday made a sharp remark against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'surrendered after the United States President Donald Trump's call'. The BJP has come out in sharp criticism against the remark of the Congress leader. Addressing a convention of Congress workers in Bhopal, Gandhi added that if slight pressure is exerted on RSS-BJP, "they run away out of fear". "Now, I understand RSS-BJP well. If slight pressure is put on them, they run away out of fear. When Trump called Modi ji-'Modi ji kya kar rahe ho, Narendra-Surrender and with 'ji hazooor', Narendra ji followed Trump," the Congress Leader said. He also brought up the 1971 war under the then-PM Indira Gandhi and said, "In the 1971 war, the Seventh Fleet (came from the US), India Gandhi said I will do whatever I have to do. This is the difference. This is their character; all of them are like this. Since the Independence movement, they have this habit of writing letters of surrender." — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) June 3, 2025 BJP's Backlash BJP Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia in a post on X shared the picture of PM Modi and wrote, "Narendra Modi ji = Thunder; Rahul Gandhi = Blunder" Narendra Modi ji = Thunder Rahul Gandhi = Blunder — Gaurav Bhatia गौरव भाटिया (@gauravbhatiabjp) June 3, 2025 On the other hand, speaking to ANI, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, "Rahul Gandhi's words reflect his values as he makes such indecent remarks against the country's Prime Minister. But this is what can be expected from Rahul Gandhi, whose heart beats for Pakistan. Because when he offers a floral tribute to the statue of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, he does not remove his shoes." "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan's terror masters. From Salman Khurshid to Shashi Tharoor, every Congress leader is talking about this, and Pakistan itself is giving evidence of this... The people of the country see this uncivilised Rahul Gandhi as an agent of Pakistan..." he added. Trump's Claim For Mediations The tensions between India and Pakistan were escalating for days after the Islamic State had launched a swarm of drone and missile attacks on the Indian territory, following the launch of Operation Sindoor. The Indian Armed Forces had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to avenge the terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 individuals were killed. After Islamabad's aggression that followed the beginning of Operation Sindoor, New Delhi launched strikes on Pakistan's airbases. On May 10, it was announced that a ceasefire had been reached after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart. After this, the US President, on more than one occasion, has claimed credit for helping to stop the hostilities between the two neighbouring countries.

Elcot park techies seek better lighting, bus trips

Madurai: IT professionals working at the Elcot IT Park at Ilanthaikulam near Mattuthavani have urged the authorities to improve infrastructure and safety measures in and around Pandi Kovil ring road, citing poor lighting and lack of public transport. These concerns were raised at a meeting with commercial taxes minister P Moorthy on Tuesday, when he visited the park. The employees highlighted the urgent need for shuttle services linking the IT park to major transit points like Mattuthavani and Periyar bus stands. "It is difficult to return home safely after night shifts, especially for women. Many hesitate to ride two-wheelers at night due to poor lighting," said M Shanmuga Priya, a team lead at Chella Software. Representatives from HCL added that they were willing to install LED streetlights around TIDEL Park area if permission was granted. The minister assured the employees that he would coordinate with TNSTC to initiate a shuttle route but the service should not cause losses to the transport corporation and have to be used regularly. On allowing companies to install LED lights, he said he would speak to the corporation commissioner. Corporation commissioner Chitra Vijayan told TOI that the concerned stretch of Pandi Kovil ring road falls under Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNRIDC), which collects tolls for its maintenance. "However, we will coordinate with the district administration to find a workable solution for the lighting and safety concerns," she said. Balamurugan Palani, president of Madurai Infrastructure and Development Group, proposed a comprehensive bus route connecting Ilanthaikulam and Vadapalanji Elcot IT parks. It could pass through Mattuthavani, Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Pandi Kovil Junction, Gomathipuram, Aavin Junction, Anna Bus Stand, Goripalayam, Arapalayam, Kochadai, Achampattu, Virattipattu, Nagamalai Pudukottai, and end at Vadapalanji SEZ campus. He stressed the need for increased patrolling, CCTV surveillance, and other safety measures to protect women techies commuting at odd hours. Wrapping up the session, minister Moorthy said the Elcot IT Park project, initiated by former chief minister M Karunanidhi, helped generate local employment and transform Madurai into an emerging IT hub. With the upcoming TIDEL Park in Mattuthavani, the region is poised for further growth, he added. Earlier, the minister paid tributes to Karunanidhi at his statue at the park, on his birth anniversary.
