In a stunning victory, Indian-American lawmaker Zohran Kwame Mamdani defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary race for New York City mayor. Mamdani, son of renowned Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, a Ugandan author of Indian ancestry, was declared victorious in the Democratic mayoral primary Tuesday night. 'In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it's done. My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it. I am honoured to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City,' Mamdani said in a post on X. Mamdani was born in Kampla, Uganda, on October 18, 1991, and raised in New York City. He moved to New York with his parents when he was seven. His mother Mira Nair has won applause for films like 'Monsoon Wedding' and 'Salaam Bombay!'. Mamdani, a state assemblyman from Queens and a democratic socialist running for Mayor, is married to Brooklyn- based Syrian-born artist Rama Duwaji.

And now, it is getting an adaptation in Hindi for the Indian audience. And now a source close to the development informs us, 'The makers do have a strong desire to bring out the Indian adaptation, but it is at a very nascent stage. Nothing is signed or confirmed as of yet and they are still looking out for a platform.' Reports also suggested that actor Kunal Kemmu has been approached to play the lead character, essayed by Andy in the original. However, that isn't the case. 'The casting of Kunal Kemmu is a complete rumour. His name has been discussed among the makers due to his impeccable comic timing, but he has not been a part of those discussions yet and nothing has been taken to him. The casting process is still a few months away,' the source shares, giving an important update on the show. 'The writers have written a pilot episode and fleshed out the characters as per Indian setting, but it's all a little early. Although, if all things go well, the show might hit the screens after a year,' the source says. Brooklyn Nine Nine follows a group of cops in the 99th precinct in Brooklyn, New York, and their everyday antics as they solve cases with a hint of humour. The show has achieved cult following over the course of its six seasons run, and is often rewatched on TV and streaming.

By Jack Queen and Luc Cohen (Reuters) -Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defense lawyers are set to ask jurors on Friday to clear the hip-hop mogul of sex trafficking and other criminal charges, as his closely watched trial in Manhattan comes to a close. Combs, a former billionaire known for elevating hip-hop in American culture, has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and two counts each of sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted on all counts, the Bad Boy Records founder faces a minimum 15-year prison term and could be sentenced to life behind bars. During the first day of closing arguments on Thursday, a U.S. prosecutor told jurors Combs used "violence and fear" to lead a criminal enterprise that helped him subject two of his former girlfriends to sex trafficking, "The defendant used power, violence and fear to get what he wanted," prosecutor Christy Slavik told jurors in her address. "He thought that his fame, wealth and power put him above the law." Combs' defense lawyers acknowledge that Combs was occasionally violent in domestic relationships, but have argued that his conduct did not amount to sex trafficking because the sex acts described by prosecutors were consensual. Over more than six weeks of testimony in Manhattan federal court, jurors heard two of Combs' former girlfriends testify that they took part in days-long, drug-fueled sex parties sometimes called "Freak Offs" with male sex workers while Combs watched, masturbated, and occasionally filmed. Combs did not testify. The jury saw hotel surveillance footage of Combs beating one of the women in a hallway, and heard Combs' employees describe setting up hotel rooms and buying drugs for the performances. Jurors are expected to start deliberations either late on Friday or on Monday. To convict Combs, they must vote unanimously.
