2025 NBA Draft: ChatGPT predicts the first 14 picks

2025 NBA Draft: ChatGPT predicts the first 14 picks

USA Today6 hours ago

Artificial intelligence, as it turns out, is not quite intelligent enough to put together a full 2025 NBA mock draft.
It is, however, good enough to predict the lottery picks – the first 14 selections – in this year's draft and provide some short analysis for each one.
USA TODAY Sports used ChatGPT to put together a full, first-round mock draft for the 2025 NBA Draft. The first 10 picks went smoothly, but after that, it couldn't help but try to re-draft players who are already in the league despite multiple attempts to correct it. Or, when it wasn't doing that, the AI chatbot was selecting players that did not declare for this year's draft. Only after many more tries was a writer able to coax out the final four lottery picks from the AI.
Nevertheless, we persisted to cobble together a mock draft comprised of all top-14 picks this year. Here's what ChatGPT thinks could happen with the lottery selections in the 2025 NBA Draft:

NBA draft 2025: ChatGPT predicts every first round pick
ChatGPT wrote: "Unanimous top pick; versatile two-way star, Wooden winner."
It wrote: "Elite driver and scorer, shooting remains a question; consensus No. 2."
It wrote: "Athletic playmaker and defensive force; top fit for Philly"
It wrote: "Sharpshooting wing with high floor; alternative to Edgecombe."
It wrote: "Center with massive upside: elite rim protection, shooting upside."
The AI chatbot wrote: "Scoring wing; draft stock wobbles due to skipped workouts, but talent keeps him high."
ChatGPT wrote: "Dynamic scorer and facilitator; fits well with New Orleans' team structure."
It wrote: "High school track record and elite ball‐handling; playmaking upside."
It wrote: "Freshman All‑Big East big; floor-spacing and shot-blocking ability."
It wrote: "3‑and‑D wing and late first-round sleeper."
Perhaps ChatGPT does not realize that the 10th overall pick is not necessarily "late" in the first round. Nevertheless, the mock draft continues.
The chatbot wrote: "Skilled big, draft stock ~11."
It wrote: "Athletic forward with upside."
It wrote: "Pro guard, Euro floor-general."
ChatGPT wrote: "6'11" versatile forward."

Midjourney's video generator is behind the competition — here's why I love it anyway

While the AI image market is now pretty crowded, Midjourney was one of the first to do it, turning words into images years ago. But since then, the company has fallen behind, being outpaced by a variety of competitors. This was most evident in the development of AI video generation. The technology has blown up in recent months, seeing huge improvements from companies like Google and OpenAI. While Midjourney has been quiet on this front for a long time, it finally launched its first video generator. However, while others push boundaries, competing to offer the most advanced package, Midjourney's first attempt at a video generator was surprisingly limited. There is no ability to prompt for the video, only to add images — either your own or ones you've made with Midjourney. While audio isn't common in video generators yet, it's missing from Midjourney's tool However, despite these limitations, in my time using Midjourney's video generator so far, it has quickly become one of my favorites. Midjourney has always stood out in the world of AI generation for one good reason. Where the likes of ChatGPT and Gemini are designed to create lifelike images and videos, Midjourney is hyper-focused on creativity. Before you even use it, you need to rank hundreds of images, giving the model an idea of your style preferences. These preferences can be turned on or off, but with the personalization on, image and video results are clearly pushed to styles that fit me. While you can't directly prompt for a video, the process is isn't much more complicated. After creating an image on Midjourney, you'll have the option to 'animate' the image. This can be done automatically, allowing the AI to choose what happens in the video, either with low or high motion. Or you can manually choose what happens. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. This turns Midjourney into a similar version of an AI video generator as the big competitors… just with a few extra steps to get there. You can also upload your own images, turning those into videos. Despite some big concerns around copyright right now, Midjourney has also put a strong emphasis on avoiding deepfakes. It won't edit images of real people and is surprisingly unwilling to create something that might resemble celebrity figures. The video generation from Midjourney is clearly designed for the same group as the image generator. It's built for people wanting to make creative projects or design things that are clearly separate from real life. Scroll through Midjourney's explore page and you'll be greeted by moving comic book strips, anime fights and stylised car chases. Midjourney also seems to have put a lot of work into its prompt understanding. Previously, the model would struggle to create good results without incredibly specific details. Now, it works in a similar way to the likes of ChatGPT, able to create images and videos from short descriptions. From the short time I've used it so far, I've got high hopes for Midjourney's video generator. They have warned that prices could change as they test the model so now is a great time to give it a go.

Family important for Dylan Harper, likely No. 2 pick in 2025 NBA Draft

Family has been a top priority for Dylan Harper his entire life, and it's something he hopes he'll find within his new NBA home, too. Luckily for the projected No. 2 pick in Wednesday's NBA draft, team chemistry was one of the first things that stood out when he visited with the Spurs. Advertisement 'You can just feel the family atmosphere when you walk in the facility,' Harper said Tuesday. 'For them it's really like, 'How can we get chemistry up? How can we keep everyone together?' … I can add value to that.' Family was a recurring theme throughout the former Rutgers star's media appearance Tuesday, and it goes beyond the blood ties to the NBA — his father, Ron Harper, is a five-time champion, and his brother, Ron Jr., has been in the league for three seasons. In fact, it was his mom, Maria, who Harper said coached him from elementary school through his senior year of high school and pushed him hardest with basketball. Advertisement The trip to San Antonio was a good first impression for the 19-year-old, as he could see his own values within the team. 'Family, loyalty, everything like that. I think the best teams, the greatest teams, their chemistry is through the roof,' he said. 'They all hold value to their team — whether you're the head coach, to the best player, to the 15th man — everyone's connected and everyone feels equal.' With the option to attend college virtually anywhere as a five-star recruit out of high school, Harper stayed home in New Jersey, giving him a chance to follow his older brother's Scarlet Knights legacy and stay close to his hometown of Franklin Lakes. 'It's definitely gonna mean a lot to [Ron Sr.] and a lot to everyone else — my mom, my brother, my grandparents and everyone else who's there,' Harper said. 'They kind of see me through the journey and watch me go about my days, even when I was high and low, they still stuck with me no matter what.' Though there are some concerns over Harper's fit on a team that already has guards De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, Harper mentioned Castle as one of the players he has already spoken with several times. Rutgers' Ace Bailey addresses NBA draft rumors: 'I'm focused on basketball'

Former Rutgers forward Ace Bailey side-stepped questions on Tuesday after reportedly turning down several workout requests ahead of the 2025 NBA draft. Bailey canceled a workout last week with Philadelphia (No. 3 pick) and has declined other invitations from Charlotte (No. 4) and Utah (No. 5). The prevailing thought is that Bailey and his representation want to land with a specific team to maximize his development. The 6-foot-8 standout, who was long thought to be selected with the third pick, is now projected to be drafted outside of the top five. He and his group likely feel as though Washington (No. 6), New Orleans (No. 7) or Brooklyn (No. 8) represent his best chance at long-term success. "I'm just blessed to be in this position I am right now," Bailey said after he was asked why he reportedly canceled his workout with the Sixers. "That's all. I'm taking it day by day." Bailey was a third-team All-Big Ten selection, averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and one steal on 34.6% shooting from 3-point range last season with the Scarlet Knights. He ranked ninth among all freshmen in points (527) and 10th in rebounds (215). The 18-year-old measured slightly smaller than expected at the draft combine last month, after Rutgers listed him at 6 feet, 10 inches. That development, along with his precarious handling of workouts and interviews, has contributed to his name falling down draft boards. "I feel like I can only control what I can control," Bailey said. "I mean, you can think how you think, but I can control what I can control." Bailey is the only U.S.-based prospect who hasn't worked out with any team ahead of the draft on Wednesday (8 p.m. EDT; ABC, ESPN). The prospects ranked ahead of him -- Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, VJ Edgecombe and Kon Knueppel -- have all visited at least one team. Declining workout requests isn't a new development. But, prospects working out with no teams is rare, though it is reportedly a decision Bailey and his team are comfortable with, likely meaning they have received a promise from a team outside the top five. But Bailey isn't letting the swirling conversation affect him. He is focused on becoming the best version of himself throughout the predraft process and is eager to find his new home on Wednesday, wherever that might be. "I'm focused on basketball," Bailey said. "That's my decision. Just basketball."
