The car is priced from $103,000 and its makers promise no two will be the same.
Callum Design has revealed its interpretation of a reborn classic Mini – and you're going to want one.
The car uses the body shell of a Mk5 Mini, which was the final generation of the famous city car, built between 1997 and 2001 before the Mini brand was taken over by BMW. Established by Ian Callum, the former head of design at Jaguar, Callum Design has teamed up with coachbuilder Wood & Pickett to reimagine the classic Mini.
Wood & Pickett built a reputation in the 1960s for selling modified and personalized Minis to celebrity clients that included Paul McCartney and his wife Linda, as well as Elton John and The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger.
Customers are invited to choose their own paintwork and interior specification.
Fast-forward to today, and the latest Mini to come from Wood & Pickett is destined for the garage of model, fashion entrepreneur – and noted car guy – David Gandy. Finished in a shade of brown inspired by a Mini once owned by Steve McQueen, the first W&P Mini by Callum, pictured below, boasts redesigned valances at the front and rear, new sills, a new design of 13-inch wheels, and modern conveniences like LED lighting.
Inside, the all-new interior has a redesigned wooden dashboard, metal switchgear, leather door cards, a set of redesigned analog dials, and a small touchscreen display running Apple CarPlay. The cabin also boasts a new set of seats and new carpet, and Callum Design says it has improved the car's NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) by using new soundproofing materials.
The first example was built for British model and fashion entrepreneur David Gandy.
Under the hood sits a newly rebuilt four-cylinder engine with its capacity increased to 1,310cc thanks to a 'Stage 3' tune that promises 110 horsepower, almost double that of the original car. Upgrades include a reengineered manual transmission (complete with a lovely chrome shifter), a computer re-tuned to improve power delivery, a new cylinder head, twin-point injection, and a bespoke twin-exit tailpipe with a sporty upswept design.
The reborn Mini also benefits from a suspension system tuned for modern comfort, upgraded brakes with vented and grooved 8.4-inch rotors, and a set of new alloy wheels designed by Callum.
Callum Design says each of its Minis will be hand-built in the UK, and is offered as a limited production run. Prices start at £75,000 (about $103,000), and the company promises that 'no two builds will be alike, each customer will collaborate closely with Callum's design team to create a Mini that reflects their individual vision.'
The redesigned interior features wood, leather and Apple CarPlay.

'This motor might say Land Rover, but on the side of it, it says Ford Motor Company. So you thinking you getting some kind of Porsche,' he says while looking under the hood of a Land Rover sitting in his repair bay. 'This is a 5.0. This is a 302 Ford.' When Ford and Land Rover Shared Parts In the world of automotive manufacturing, luxury brands sometimes borrow engineering from broader platforms, especially when cost-sharing or corporate ownership comes into play. Following Ford's 2000 acquisition of Land Rover , several V‑8 engines in Land Rover models were produced at Ford facilities. The AJ‑V8 family, designed by Jaguar, is a perfect example. In August 2020, Land Rover confirmed it would shift engine production in‑house after Bridgend's closure. The 5.0-liter engine that Larry refers to is most likely the AJ-V8 (AJ133) , which powered certain Range Rover models between 2009 and 2012. While its displacement matches Ford's classic 302 cubic-inch V-8, the AJ-V8 is a distinct design , making it more of a cousin than a direct descendant. Automotive enthusiasts point out that, although these engines were built in Ford facilities, their internals were explicitly developed for Jaguar and Land Rover applications. Police and paramedics block Hyde Road after crash

Police and paramedics blocked a main road in Manchester following a crash on Sunday evening (August 17). Emergency services attended the incident along Hyde Road at around 7pm with traffic stopped in both directions. One car was seen to be damaged at the roadside with an ambulance and multiple police cars in attendance. It is not known how many other vehicles were involved. Automakers are embracing subscriptions whether customers like them or not, often pushing beyond what most of us find acceptable. BMW attempted to charge a monthly fee for heated seats, but users didn't bite . On the opposite end of the spectrum, Mercedes-Benz still offers Acceleration Increase for its EQ models, which initially cost $1,200 a year, and it's an idea that Volkswagen is borrowing for the electric ID.3 in the United Kingdom. Auto Express first reported that the automaker's consumer site in the UK market lists the ID.3 Pro and Pro S as only having 201 horsepower instead of the full 228-hp output. The fine print reads that owners can "activate the optional power upgrade for a fee." VW offers owners the option of a one-month free trial, a monthly or yearly subscription, or the ability to purchase it for the car's lifetime. Those costs are: £16.50 per month, £165 per year, or £649 outright, which is $22.36, $211.41, and $879,52, respectively, at today's exchange rate. It's an odd decision and one that doesn't make much financial sense for a buyer on a car that costs around $50,000 to start. The extra cost is small enough to be hidden in the MSRP, and something most people would likely be willing to pay upfront. But this paywall feels like an unnecessary hurdle designed to nickel-and-dime customers who might be leasing rather than buying. Automotive News Europe reported in late 2023 that more than 40 percent of new lease registrations in the UK were electric vehicles, so someone who only keeps the car for a few years might be able to save a few hundred dollars. Volkswagen ID.3 Interior It doesn't seem worth it, and thankfully VW isn't doing that in America, but it reveals where the industry stands and what it's thinking. Automakers are seeking new revenue streams during a complex and costly time in the industry, and a recurring income from thousands or millions of drivers is enticing. You'd think spending tens of thousands of dollars would guarantee you can purchase and fully own a complete vehicle, but that's no longer the case when software sits between the user and the actual hardware. Software licenses and end-user license agreements restrict ownership while the Digital Millennium Copyright Act dictates what a user can and cannot do with that license. In 2023, Mazda sent a cease-and-desist letter to a developer who had made integrations that connected Mazda vehicles to Home Assistant, an open-source home automation software. The automaker accused the developer of writing code that infringed on its 'copyright ownership,' which provided similar functionality to that offered by Mazda through its apps. While the DMCA allows owners to modify what they own, it's illegal to distribute the software or tools to do it, especially if it violates copyright, and today's cars are packed with copyrighted software. American automakers are already making the argument in court that customers don't fully own the vehicles they paid for, pointing to software and software licenses in their attempt to restrict right-to-repair laws. As automakers embed more software into cars, EVs or ICE, it will make paywalling horsepower, safety features, or access to other hardware features even easier because you can't own someone else's copyrighted code, and VW's UK experiment should be a red alert for car buyers everywhere.
