How animal bite deaths hit MP villagers even after rabies vaccination
A spate of deaths has hit a group of mostly tribal people who had assembled for a wedding at Limbai village in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, spreading panic. Six people have died since early May—the last one on June 2—after being bitten by an animal suspected to be a rabid jackal.Early morning on May 5, an animal bit 17 people sleeping outside their homes in Limbai, located some 45 km from Barwani town. The victims, some of whom had come from other villages for a wedding, described the animal as resembling a dog.advertisementA search was launched but the animal was never traced, until on June 4 when forest department staff found the remains of an animal, with its legs tied, in a dry well near the village.'We suspect the remains are that of a jackal. The animal was perhaps caught, killed and thrown into the well. We have sent the remains for a lab test,' said Ashish Bansod, divisional forest officer, Barwani.
Three people died on May 23, one each on May 27 and June 1 and another person on June 2. All of them had been administered anti-rabies vaccines immediately after being bit. Three heads of cattle also died after being bitten by the animal.The families of the deceased have been paid Rs 8 lakh each as compensation, informed Bansod.advertisementWhat could have caused the deaths even after vaccines were administered? The district administration has sent samples of the vaccines for tests. Samples and swabs drawn from the deceased have also been sent for tests to ascertain if the fatalities were indeed caused by rabies.'If not stored properly or if the cold chain is broken, the efficacy of drugs may reduce. At times, if the schedule of injections is not followed, efficacy goes down as well,' said Dr Avinash Dube, a medical practitioner.The remaining 11 people who suffered bites are under observation at medical facilities, including the MY Hospital at divisional headquarters Indore. Delhi HC grants interim bail to woman suffering from cancer
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to a woman whose condition is serious due to cancer. She is an accused in a drug case registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch under the NDPS Act. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela granted petitioner Jyoti interim bail until June 15. The High Court will hear the application on June 13. While issuing notice to the state, the bench has asked the Investigation Officer to verify the medical documents and a status report be filed within 3 days. Keeping in view the extreme and terminal medical condition of the applicant and in view of the humanitarian medical crisis which has arisen, the court allowed the application seeking interim bail. 'The applicant is enlarged on interim bail on medical grounds till.15.06.2025, subject to the applicant furnishing a personal bond of Rs . 1,00,000 with one surety of the like amount, subject to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent/Trial Court,' Justice Gedela ordered on June 4. Petitioner is an accused in an NDPS Act and was granted interim bail on May 19, 2025 till June 5 on the medical grounds in view of her condition. However the trial court refused to extend the interim bail as her regular bail is pending before the High court. Thereafter, an application seeking interim bail was moved before the High Court. Senior advocate Amit Chaddh,a counsel for the applicant, submitted that as per the Diagnosis Report dated 02.06.2025 of the hospital, the applicant Jyoti, aged 39 years, is suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia. This is an uncommon and rare kind of cancer. It was further submitted that on an application seeking further extension of the interim bail, on 04.06.2025, the Sessions Judge was not inclined to extend it further and had rejected the interim bail application holding that he had no jurisdiction, since the regular bail plea is pending before this Court. Addressing the gathering, Dr Balbir Singh described Arora as a visionary and development-oriented leader with a clear blueprint for Ludhiana's progress. He asserted that Arora's victory would not only benefit Ludhiana (West) but also contribute to the development of the city and state. Dr Singh said that there was "strong public sentiment" in favour of Arora and credited him for visible development over the last three years. Ayush Nirmata Sangh secretary Ashish Dubey said, "We are anticipating a surge in demand for immunity boosters as cases of Covid-19 again started to increase. Many units started preparations and are gradually increasing production." Another manufacturer owner of a local Ayurvedic firm Ravi Kumar said, "We saw an increase in enquiries for our immunity products. To meet this demand, we are expanding our operations to ensure we can deliver quality products to our customers promptly. Also, monsoon and winters are main demand period of Ayurvedic products when demand rises."
