Trump's Reason For Not Ending Ukraine War In 24 Hours Brutally Mocked

Yahoo5 hours ago

President Donald Trump had to admit his failure to fulfill one of his most popular ― and ludicrous ― campaign promises on Wednesday.
During the 2024 campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours and even told Fox News' Sean Hannity he was '100% sure' he could keep that promise.
However, despite Trump's subsequent election and inauguration in January, the war between Russia and Ukraine has continued with no real end in sight.
Trump didn't have a decent answer on Wednesday when Austrian reporter Johannes Petrov noted, 'You once said that you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. You later said you said that sarcastically.'
'Of course I said that sarcastically,' Trump replied, which prompted Petrov to ask, 'But you've been in office for five months and five days, why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?'
At first, Trump admitted that ending geopolitical conflicts between rival countries is 'more difficult than people would have any idea.'
He also played the blame game.
'Vladimir Putin has been more difficult,' he said about the Russian president. 'Frankly, I had some problems with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, you may have read about them. And it's been more difficult than other wars,' Trump said, before listing the various wars he's had an easier time 'ending.'
Here's a clip of the exchange.
Of course, people on social media had thoughts about Trump's inability to end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours.
And, yes, there was snark. Lots and lots of snark.

Iranian lawmakers vote to suspend cooperation with UN's IAEA

Iranian lawmakers on Wednesday voted to suspend its collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency for the nuclear watchdog's refusal to condemn the US' attack on Iran's nuclear facilities and ruling that Tehran had failed to comply with its nuclear obligations—a decision Iran blames for the US' strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iranian lawmakers voted Wednesday in favour of suspending cooperation with the United Nations' atomic energy watchdog, state TV said, after a 12-day war that saw Israeli and US strikes on nuclear sites. "The International Atomic Energy Agency, which refused to even marginally condemn the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, put its international credibility up for auction," Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said, according to state TV. The decision still requires the approval of the Guardian Council, a body empowered to vet legislation. Should it be ratified, Ghalibaf said "the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran will suspend its cooperation with the IAEA until the security of the nuclear facilities is guaranteed". In parliament, 221 lawmakers voted in favour and one abstained, with no votes against from those present in the 290-seat legislature, according to state TV. Later Wednesday, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told the official IRNA news agency that cooperation with the IAEA "will definitely be affected". Trump calls for Netanyahu to be pardoned, corruption trial canceled

President Trump on Wednesday called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be pardoned and his corruption trial canceled. 'I just learned that Bibi has been summoned to Court on Monday for the continuation of this long running, (He has been going through this 'Horror Show' since May of 2020 – Unheard of! This is the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has ever been on trial.), politically motivated case, 'concerning cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges' in order to do him great harm,' Trump said in a Truth Social post late Wednesday. 'Such a WITCH HUNT, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu's trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero,' he added. In the trial, according to The Associated Press, Netanyahu is accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars' worth of cigars and champagne from a Hollywood billionaire for personal and business help. The Israeli prime minister, in an effort to secure positive coverage for himself and his family, allegedly pushed beneficial regulations for powerful individuals in the media, the outlet reported. According to the AP, Netanyahu has denied the allegations of misconduct. Trump's post also comes after recent U.S. involvement in a conflict between Israel and Iran, with American forces participating in a strike against Iran over the weekend. The president went after the Israelis and Iranians on Tuesday, expressing his displeasure at fighting that went on between the regional rivals after the president had announced the parameters of a ceasefire Monday. 'We basically — we have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the f‑‑‑ they're doing,' Trump told reporters at the White House Tuesday.
