Darwin Nunez scores AGAIN as Liverpool flop makes flying start to life in Saudi Arabia - as Reds continue their pursuit of Alexander Isak
The Uruguayan frontman, 26, completed his move to the Saudi Pro League last week after Mail Sport revealed Liverpool had accepted a £53million offer from Al-Hilal to secure his signature.
Nunez's departure came just three years after Jurgen Klopp splashed out £85m to bring him to Anfield following a glowing spell at Portuguese giants Benfica.
He joined his new teammates - including fellow stars Joao Cancelo, Theo Hernandez and Alexandar Mitrovic - at their pre-season camp in Germany over the weekend before making his debut in his new side's 6-0 thrashing of Aarau on Sunday.
Coming off the bench, the Premier League flop fired a low-driven effort past the Swiss club's goalkeeper to open his account for the 19-time Saudi Pro League champions.
And his impressive start to life with Al-Hilal didn't stop there as Nunez was once again on the scoresheet on Thursday against German locals Waldhof Mannheim.
The striker, who managed 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool, laced a volley into the roof of the net as his side concluded their pre-season trip to Germany.
Nunez's prolific start to his Al-Hilal career may come as a surprise to Reds supporters, who watched the Uruguayan struggle in-front of goal during his time in Merseyside.
In two of his three seasons at Liverpool, he ranked in the top three players in the league for big chances missed, with 21 in 2022-23 and 27 the following season.
And in his final 22 appearances for Arne Slot's Premier League champions, Nunez managed a mere one goal as he pushed for a move away from Anfield.
Slot and club bosses have gone about finding a new striker to lead their line this season.
Not only have they forked out an initial £69m for Eintracht Frankfurt talent Hugo Ekitike, who scored in his competitive debut for the club over the weekend, but they're also pursuing a deal for Newcastle United talesman Alexander Isak.
After having an initial bid of £110m rejected by The Magpies, the Reds are thought to be weighing up their second offer, which could reach a stunning £150m.
Isak is thought to be 'adamant he will never represent Newcastle again', after reporting an injury to pull out of the club's pre-season tour of Asia. He later left Tyneside to build his fitness at the training ground of Real Sociedad, his former club.
The Swede is now believed to be on strike, and is expected to be fined by the club if he doesn't appear for them in the first game of their league campaign at Aston Villa on Sunday.
Isak scored 27 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle last season.
The Magpies face Liverpool at St James' Park in their second game of the Premier League season.

Mo Salah breaks down in front of Kop as Diogo Jota saluted after Liverpool win
Liverpool paid tribute to the late Diogo Jota as they began their Premier League title defence against Bournemouth and Mohamed Salah was emotional after the final whistle Liverpool star Mo Salah was reduced to tears after Liverpool's victory over Bournemouth as home fans paid tribute to Diogo Jota. Tributes were paid to Jota before, during and after the game, following his tragic death in a car accident in July. Salah had scored Liverpool's fourth goal as they fought off a Bournemouth comeabck to win 4-2 at Anfield. Fans around the stadium chanted Jota's name after the final whistle blew, and Salah was visibly emotional as he approached the supporters. "You've just seen there, an outpouring of emotion from Mo Salah," Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville said. "I think it's going to be like that for Liverpool players, staff, fans throughout the season. "It's just going to hit them at moments during games, at the end of games, after victories, after defeats. They'll recognise they've got their team-mate, their colleague, someone they loved, not with them any more. It's incredibly sad, and obviously what we've just seen there from Mo Salah was really special." Moments earlier, Salah had clinched victory for Liverpool with a stoppage-time goal. However, victory wasn't always assured for the reigning Premier League champions. Liverpool went in 1-0 up at the break, with Hugo Ekitike scoring on his Premier League debut, and Cody Gakpo doubled the lead early in the second half. The lead didn't last, though, with Antoine Semenyo scoring twice for the visitors. It looked as though victory would elude victory, only for super-sub Federico Chiesa to volley home from around the penalty spot. The goal was the Italian's first in the Premier League, and just the third he has scored for Liverpool since joining from Juventus. "I said on commentary that it was a weird decision. Taking [Florian] Wirtz off and Chiesa on," commentator Jamie Carragher said. "But that's a magical moment for him. A last minute winner in front of the Kop. I thought he mis-hit it but he actually got really good contact on it. It doesn't go in with any great pace." Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock was covering the game for BBC Radio 5 Live and he had praise for Salah's clincher. "So often we see him come off the right flank onto his left foot but this time it comes from the opposite side," he said. "He backs the defenders off into the penalty area, cuts inside on his right foot and another pass into that far corner. A quite brilliant finish." Liverpool edge Bournemouth in thriller to start Premier League title defence
Liverpool have got their Premier League title defence off to a winning start in thrilling fashion as they scored late to beat Bournemouth at Anfield. It looked to be a comfortable night for the Reds as they opened up a two-goal lead in the second half, but then found themselves level with the Cherries late in the game. It took an unlikely hero in Federico Chiesa to put them back ahead in the dying moments, before a more familiar goal-scorer netted a fourth. Hugo Ekitike opened his Premier League account for the Reds as he put them ahead on 37 minutes, continuing his fine start to life at Liverpool after netting in the Community Shield last weekend. The Frenchman turned provider after the break as he teed up Cody Gakpo and the Dutchman coolly curled in an effort into the bottom corner, just four minutes into the second half. Anfield was rocking by this point, with Liverpool looking very dangerous, but it was the away team that grabbed the next goal and turned the tide somewhat. Antoine Semenyo scored the goal for the Cherries just after the hour mark after a rapid and efficient break, with David Brooks putting in a brilliant ball from the left for his teammate to finish. It was a similar story just over 10 minutes later as Semenyo was the man to finish off a counter-attack again, stunning Anfield by putting Bournemouth level. The Reds were concerningly open through the middle of the pitch as the Cherries broke, with Ibrahima Konate unable to stop Semenyo on the edge of the penalty box and he fired beyond Alisson. Arne Slot's men were desperately pushing for a winner and eventually found it through substitute Chiesa who volleyed home a loose clearance inside the area on 88 minutes to delight the home fans. Mo Salah then rounded off the scoring in injury time, showing great fight and energy so late in the day to end the drama. It was an emotional evening at Anfield as tributes were paid to Diogo Jota before kick-off after his tragic death last month. More Trending While that was observed perfectly by the fans on Merseyside, there were awful scenes in the first half as Semenyo reported to the referee that he had been racially abused by a Liverpool supporter. The match was paused briefly as the referee spoke to both managers about the situation, with players on both sides showing support for the Bournemouth star. There was also controversy of a much less important kind on the field as Marcos Senesi was fortunate to avoid any punishment on 12 minutes as he appeared to handball and prevent Ekitike running in on goal from the halfway line. Mohamed Salah in tears as Liverpool fans sing Diogo Jota's name at Anfield
Mohamed Salah wiped away tears as he listened to Liverpool fans sing songs in tribute to Diogo Jota after the team's victory over Bournemouth at Anfield. Liverpool won 4-2 in the opening match of the Premier League season, with goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Salah getting their title defence off to a winning start. Jota died in a car crash along with brother Andre Silva in Spain on 3 July after a suspected tyre blowout. The tragedy occurred only 11 days after Jota, a 28-year-old father of three, had married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso. Jota 's family were in attendance at Anfield on Friday night as Liverpool fans sang a rousing rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, before a minute's silence was impeccably observed. A loud rendition of Jota's song was accompanied by banners commemorating the late forward, one of them in the Bournemouth end, in a gesture by the visiting fans. Mosaics were formed by fans in the Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Kop as Liverpool paid their own tribute. Chants of Jota's name continued to ring around the stadium as the game got underway, all players wearing black armbands, with fans singing his now immortalised 'Number 20' anthem. And afterwards, Salah stood in front of the Kop soaking in the moment as supporters sang Jota's name. "We know that this will be a very emotional occasion, given it is the first league game we have played since we lost Diogo and Andre,' Arne Slot had said in his pre-match programme notes. "As I have said previously, the tributes that have been paid throughout the football world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special, and I know that tonight we will come together to honour them once more.' Reds captain Virgil van Dijk added in his notes: 'It will be a very emotional occasion for everybody associated with the club, and especially for Diogo's wife, Rute, their children and his family, who will be in attendance this evening. 'They remain, of course, the most important people in all of this, and it is important that we as a club – players, staff, supporters – are there for them always, and that they know that they will always be loved and welcomed here at Anfield.' Liverpool retired Jota's No 20 shirt earlier this summer, with the Portuguese forward listed under 'Forever' on their website's squad list.
