Vancouver's New Brighton Pool closed ‘until further notice'

This photo of New Brighton Pool was posted on social media by the Vancouver Park Board in 2017. (Twitter/parkboard) One of Vancouver's few outdoor swimming pools is closed 'until further notice,' the park board announced Tuesday. New Brighton Pool is shuttered due to a 'mechanical issue,' according to a social media post. Asked for more information, a spokesperson described the issue as an 'unexpected' problem with a pump. There is no estimated time for reopening and it's unclear if swimmers will be able to visit again before Labour Day, when the pool would have closed for the season. 'Our team is working hard to resolve the issue, and we'll share updates on our website and social media as soon as more information becomes available,' a statement provided to CTV News said. The closure comes as hot weather is forecast to return, with temperatures predicted to hover around 30 degrees this coming weekend. The closure leaves outdoor pool users with four other options: Kitsilano, Second Beach and the relatively small Hillcrest and Maple Grove pools.
