Nintendo Switch users snap up underrated Mario game for under £3 in clever deal
"It's the Mario game we all love with an added twist, which makes the levels tougher."
The new Nintendo Switch 2 may be on its way, but as prices appear high for the new consol e, many will be planning to stick to the original Switch instead of splashing out on its sequel. One lesser-known Mario offering is currently giving gamers a dose of nostalgia - and what's more, gamers can grab it for less than three quid.
Using an offer on simple savings website TopCashback, gamers can snap up Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle for just £2.77. Flipping the classic Super Mario formula on its head, this game sees the Mushroom Kingdom invaded with the pesky Rabbids as the Mario gang work to defeat them in a turn-based strategy spin, reports Manchester Evening News.
While it normally costs £17.99, shoppers can currently get this game from Argos for just a few quid by creating a new TopCashback account. By making an account using this link, gamers will get £15 cashback on orders over £15, including this qualifying Mario game.
In Mario + Rabbids, the player adopts a top-down perspective, commanding the likes of Mario, Peach and Luigi around battlefields.
Using both ranged and hand-to-hand combat abilities, the player is tasked with taking out the irritating Rabbids after they've invaded the Mushroom Kingdom.
But if you're not much of a Mario fan, you can also pick up a few other games using the TopCashback deal.
Highly-rated classic games such as Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Minecraft are all down to £4.99 by using the same trick at Argos.
Reviews of Mario + Rabbids sit at 4.6 stars on the Argos site.
One reviewer wrote: "My nephew was ecstatic at receiving the game. It's brilliant for young gamers as the controls are basic and repetitive whilst the design and pace makes it feel more mature."
Meanwhile, a second reviewer said: "I didn't know I would be a fan of this style of games but ended up loving it so much that a week later, I went back to Argos to buy a sequel. Amazing value for money!"
However, be aware that Argos sells this game as a download code only package, meaning there's no physical cartridge in the box.
This confusion has led to some negative reviews, with one reading: "Thought they are avoiding too much plastic that's why they sell the code instead of the game card, not sure what the point of the box then? Just confusing customers as the note to ''Download Code Only'' is very small."
Another customer felt the same way, with a review reading: "Very good game, only gripe is that this is an online code."
But, despite the game being download-only, another happy customer shared: "It's the Mario game we all love with an added twist, which makes the levels tougher."
How to get the game for under £3 at Argos

Nintendo Switch 2 outsells Switch 1 launch by over 100% but fails to beat PS5
Only a couple of UK retailers held midnight launches (Credits: David Parry/PA Media Assignments) The Nintendo Switch 2 has already sold over 160,000 consoles in the UK and become Nintendo's fastest selling console ever. Although there's still no official sales figures for the Nintendo Switch 2 everything points towards it being a massive worldwide success, selling more units in its first day than any other console. That'd certainly be an impressive feat, but Nintendo itself has yet to substantiate these claims. Earlier today, though, additional sales data has been shared, and it at least gives an indication of how the Switch 2 has performed here in the UK. Although no exact figures have been given, it's said that the Switch 2 has had the best UK launch of any Nintendo console ever. Although given the company's history in this country, it's difficult to know exactly what that means. The data comes courtesy of market research firm NielsenIQ, which shared its findings with The Game Business, adding that the Switch 2 outperformed the Switch 1 by more than two to one. On top of that, it outperformed the Nintendo 3DS, which was the original record holder for the biggest Nintendo hardware launch in the UK. For the record, the Switch 1 managed 80,000 units in the UK at launch while the 3DS sold 113,000 units. So the implication is that the Switch 2 sold over 160,000 consoles. The only Switch 2 figures we have so far are from Currys, which says it sold 30,000 pre-orders at its stores, which they seemed to be very happy with. PlayStation consoles have always been more popular in the UK (Sony) NielseinIQ adds that this only makes the Switch 2 the fourth best-selling console launch in the UK, trailing behind the Xbox Series X/S, the PlayStation 4, and especially the PlayStation 5. Coming out in the middle of lockdown, the PlayStation 5 was a huge deal in the UK, when it launched in 2020, and went on to become the country's best selling console in 2021. As The Game Business points out, the original Switch and the Wii had weaker launches in the UK than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox One. The UK has always been Nintendo's weakest international market, which can be traced all the way back to the original NES from the 1980s. Not only did the UK not receive the console until 1987 – four years after its initial Japanese launch and two years after the US – but it and its games were badly overpriced and little effort was made in converting it for PAL televisions. Nintendo didn't even have a proper UK headquarters at that time and it wasn't until the GameCube that they started taking the region seriously, with the Wii and DS being the first time that Nintendo's success in the UK mirrored that of the rest of the world. The good news for Nintendo is that things have been steadily improving since then and doubling the Switch 1's debut is quite a feat. In the run up to the Switch 2's release, some analysts predicted it would be the biggest console launch ever, although Nintendo is only aiming to sell slightly more than the original Switch managed in its launch period. This more conservative outlook can likely be chalked up to Nintendo opting to play things safe due to all the uncertainty caused by US president Donald Trump's tariffs. Plus, it looks better for them if they easily beat their goals. Call Of Duty is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 promises Activision and Microsoft
Despite no sign of a Switch 2 launch for this year's Call Of Duty, Activision swears it's still working on bringing its flagship shooter series to Nintendo fans. Back when Microsoft was trying to push through its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, one of its key arguments was that the buyout would allow for the Call Of Duty games to be released on Nintendo hardware. Microsoft even signed a 10-year deal to bring the series to the then unannounced Nintendo Switch 2, promising future games would launch on Nintendo's platform the same day as the Xbox and PlayStation versions, and 'with full feature and content parity.' And yet Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, the first new entry in a post-Switch 2 world, is not scheduled to launch for Nintendo's console. We're clearly not the only one to notice this oddity as Activision has felt the need to clarify that it does intend to follow through on Microsoft's promises. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Activision is keeping exact details to a minimum, only telling Eurogamer that 'We're committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams [are] working on it. Will share details when ready.' This leaves it vague as to whether Black Ops 7 will be first in line for a Switch 2 port at a later date or whether Activision will prioritise bringing its backlog to the platform. Either way, it's not exactly the simultaneous day one support Microsoft initially promised. It's also unclear if Activision intends on bringing the Call Of Duty games to the original Switch, but that seems unwise. Modern Call Of Duty games are graphically demanding, so they'd be better suited to the more powerful Switch 2. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Activision's statement comes after Kotaku also reported that Microsoft and Nintendo are still planning on getting Call Of Duty on Nintendo hardware, with an announcement coming in the future. More Trending It may be that Nintendo wants any sort of announcement reserved for one of its Nintendo Directs, rather than an Xbox showcase. A new Nintendo Direct is expected later this month, since the company typically holds one in June, although nothing formal has been confirmed by Nintendo. Whether there's actually any demand for Call Of Duty on Switch 2 remains to be seen and it was very obvious that Microsoft's comments during the Activision Blizzard acquisition (which included newspaper ads and advertising on the Tube) was purely for their own benefit. Call Of Duty games have appeared on Nintendo consoles plenty of times before, including the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U – as well as no less than five entries on the DS handheld. The reason there's no Call Of Duty on the Switch seems to be simply because previous entries haven't sold particularly well on Nintendo formats, and so it was no longer worth the effort of trying to port them.
