I got a first look at LG's new home appliance releases — here's 3 that stood out to me
As Tom's Guide's Homes Editor, I'm very familiar with the world of home appliances, and I've tested some of the top products in my own home. And while there are plenty of game-changing innovations happening right now, many involving AI or other smart features, I still think some of the most meaningful innovations require taking something so small and simple that we almost forgot we could make it better.
That's what stood out to me when I got hands-on with LG's new home appliance lineup when I visited its head office this month.
Amidst the ingenious smart cottage (which I deemed the "future of smart homes") and LG's groovy coffee-making robot was a roster of high-performing products that made small yet meaningful improvements on features you may have taken for granted.
Here are the three that stood out to me.
My dishwasher has two washing arms. I'd be willing to bet yours does too. The LG QuadWash Steam (as the name suggests) has four that rotate to access hard-to-reach areas and maximize coverage.
There's also TrueSteam, which uses steam from boiling water to sanitize as well as clean your tableware. The steam is sprayed from the top, bottom, and front of the main tub, and you can see in the photo above where it's ejected from the bottom of the dishwasher door. This is angled to perfectly sanitize your cutlery, which is a big win from me.

The cherry on the cake is the Smart Rack+, which takes 3 adjustable racks and allows you to lift your top rack to give some additional clearance to larger plates, big casseroles, and chopping boards. This is one of my biggest gripes with my dishwasher: I have lots of very wide frying pans that block the washing arms on the top rack from spinning, forcing me to wash them by hand. And turns out, there's a simple fix.

Most microwaves look the same, so it's easy to think they all work the same. But the LG NeoChef features something called a Smart Inverter, which makes a tangible difference to how your microwave reheats or defrosts.
A lot of microwave inverters will turn on and off periodically throughout cooking to tailor the intensity of heating, which can result in uneven cooking but also leads to a higher energy consumption. The NeoChef uses a smart inverter which has a consistent input, leading to an even heat distribution and cooking foods up to 1.5 times faster.
But the most mind-blowing feature of this microwave is its hexagonal turntable stabilizer ring. How many wheels does your microwave turntable sit on? Mine sits on 3, and it's so easily thrown off that it's always tipping or moving out of place. It's genuinely very annoying.
Why, oh why, doesn't every microwave feature a hexagonal turntable? By using 5 wheels, your plate won't tip or shift out of place because it's a lot more balanced in day-to-day use.
The NeoChef will launch in the U.K. in Q3, but can be bought in the U.S. for $289.
Using LG's Smart Inverter, the NeoChef uses humidity-sensing technology that eliminates guesswork by automatically turning off the microwave when your food is ready. And its turntable features a unique design that won't tip.
LG's Comfort Kit is a great example of how simple it can be to fix everyday problems. One thing that I learned from LG is that people with disabilities prefer to use the same appliances as everyone else, and can feel restricted by having to buy from a range of 'disability-friendly' products. LG worked with the Disability Advisory Group to create the Comfort Kit, which brings add-on products that are designed to work with the brand's existing range of appliances.
If you're a wheelchair user, a product like LG's Styler steam closet can offer a more convenient way to steam and sanitize clothing without having to use an iron and ironing board. And these appliances can be made much more accessible with some thoughtful tweaks, like the addition of a hanger with a long handle, which can be lifted and slotted into place from a seated position.
I was also impressed by the Easy Handle, which allows users to attach assistive devices to washing machine detergent box handles and door handles to make them easier to open. The dial pictured above uses a ball to allow users with limited mobility in their hands to twist between settings, without having to use their fingers.
The ComfortKit will launch in Q4 of 2025.

Your next Sonos speaker is going to be more expensive — and it's because of tariffs
Sonos hasn't had a good time over the last couple of years. We've seen an app launch that's definitely not to be envied, hardware launches plagued with niggling issues, and sales drop after a loss of trust from consumers. Now, there's a new problem looming for the smart audio firm, and it looks like it's down to those pesky tariffs that are threatening the tech sphere at every crossroads. According to a report from Bloomberg, "Sonos Inc. will raise prices on some products later this year." The report adds that it "threatens to complicate its comeback attempt following a tumultuous 2024." Tumultuous is one way of describing the many highs and lows for Sonos in 2024, but it's no great surprise that it's happening now. The firm uses factories in Vietnam and Malaysia, two countries hit hard by President Trump's tariffs. We know that we can expect price rises, then, but by how much? While we don't know yet how much the price hikes will be, we know there will be increases to some of Sonos's products. If you're in the market for a Sonos Era 300 or Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar, now could be the best opportunity to get a unit before the price rises take effect. Beyond that, there's nothing really for the consumer to worry about as yet. Sonos has seen 5% growth over the last few months, which is always a positive for a company that's had as many worrying turns of fate as Sonos. OLED TVs under $1,000? These deals just dropped — here's what to buy now
If you want the best possible picture performance, you're going to need an OLED TV. The problem is that most of the best OLED TVs come with a hefty price tag, making them hard to recommend for those looking to save some money on a new display. Fortunately, there are quite a few OLED TVs available right now at steep discounts. You'll have to settle for a smaller screen sizes from lesser-known TV brands, but there are a healthy smattering of OLED TVs under $1,000. For the most part these TVs are relegated to last year's models, as the pricing is far more reasonable. But don't worry, as the picture quality even in a year-old set more than adequate for most, especially if price is a big concern. The LG B4 OLED remains one of our favorite OLED displays from last year. Like its C-Series counterpart, it's built on a value-first proposition, but makes a few cuts in performance to fall under the $1,000 price mark. That doesn't mean this is a bad TV by any means. On the contrary, as someone who tested and reviewed it last year, I can attest to the brilliance of the LG B4 OLED. It's a true stunner with incredible contrast, surprisingly adept motion processing, and stunning color output. As with most LG OLED TVs, the B4 is also an excellent gaming display. It has four HDMI 2.1 ports and a 120Hz refresh rate, making it an ideal choice for console gamers and even new owners of a Nintendo Switch 2. Looking for an incredible OLED picture without the high price? The LG B4 is the best deal you can find. It's not as bright as higher-end OLED TVs, but you still get to bask in the glory of those perfect contrasts. Inky black levels and ultra-wide viewing angles are the key advantages over LED-LCD TVs, but dedicated gamers will also appreciate the B4's array of sought-after features, including four HDMI 2.1 inputs, support for 4K gaming at 120Hz, VRR and FreeSync.55" for $999 If you're looking for a budget OLED built on Google TV, this 55-inch Sansui display is the one for you. It's got its drawbacks, but it's still a decent-performing OLED at a reasonable screen size for under $1,000. The big issue I had when reviewing the Sansui OLED TV was its interface. It runs on Google TV, which is awesome don't get me wrong, but it runs poorly and slowly on this display. That's largely to do with its processor, which I'm sure isn't as sophisticated or advanced as its rivals. That said, if you can find a streaming device to pair it with, the Sansui still is an excellent performer for most content. Like the B4, it also has a 120Hz refresh rate and has excellent color volume. It's a solid OLED for the price, but you could always spend just a bit more and get a C4 OLED with slightly more features to offer. The Sansui S55VOUG is one of the cheapest OLED TVs around. Despite its low price, this model offers some impressive specs, including a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision/HDR 10/HLG support and two HDMI 2.1 ports. Unfortunately, we never did get the Panasonic Z85A in for testing last year, but all signs point to it be as phenomenal as Panasonic's other TVs released in 2024. It's built on Fire TV, which isn't our personal favorite interface but it does have some redeeming qualities. Namely, it comes equipped with a set of special AI features, including wallpaper generation, as well as unique cloud gaming services. If cloud gaming isn't your thing, it's equipped with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, meaning HDR movie nights will be full of gorgeous colors, and it has special audio built into the display for incredible performance right out of the box. This was more or less my experience with the Panasonic Z95A OLED TV. It too had a solid speaker system and I loved the OLED's picture performance. The Panasonic Z85A offers the built-in benefits of OLED display technology in a stylish package. It's packed with features for gaming, streaming and more, and folks with Alexa-centric smart home devices will make the most out of the Z85A's built-in Fire TV features. What can we say? We adore LG's C-Series OLEDs for their incredible value proposition. In our LG C4 OLED TV review, we raved about its picture quality and gaming features. A surprising hit is also its use of webOS, which has since been upgraded to include several cloud gaming services. The webOS on the C4 OLED will receive updates through 2029, as LG has committed to a five year update path, making your TV feel fresh and new each year. Its somewhat middling speaker system isn't our favorite, but it can be fixed by buying one the best soundbars for enhanced audio. And if the C4 isn't for you, you can always go with the LG C5 OLED TV. It's slightly more expensive, but we gave it a perfect score in our review and it's bound to get some price cuts sooner rather than later. The C4 is LG's flagship OLED TV from 2024. It's powered by LG's A9 processor and features a 120Hz panel, Dolby Vision/ HDR10/HLG support, built-in Amazon Alexa, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Apple AirPlay 2 support. 42" for $699 Okay, so the Samsung S85D OLED isn't quite under $1,000, but it's not significantly more expensive, either. We couldn't leave it off the list as it's one of the best Samsung TVs for the price. Equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports and one of the lowest input latency in our testing, it's a no-holds bar OLED. And, while it might not have Dolby Vision support, neither does the PS5 Pro — making these two the perfect pairing. We highlighted its exceptional color handling and brightness in SDR content in our review. Although most OLED TVs tend to be lacking in brightness, Samsung's excel in this regard, making them a good pick for rooms with lots of ambient light. Even if it's a bit over the $1,000 mark, the Samsung S85D is totally worth the investment. It's a no-compromise gaming icon built on an incredible interface. What more could you ask for at just under $1,300? Samsung's entry-level OLED blends the many benefits of OLED display technology with an array of gaming features, all for a price that's lower than most TVs in its class. In addition to its incredible contrast and accommodating viewing angles, you're getting a full suite of HDMI 2.1-compatible inputs, a 120Hz native refresh rate and built-in smart features.
