Ban on drones, laser beams around Cochin International Airport
Kochi, June 17 (UNI) The use of laser beams and various aerial devices, including drones, has been banned within a five-kilometre radius – designated as a red zone – of Cochin International Airport.
The order was issued based on reports from the airport director and the Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief highlighting that the unauthorised use of such devices poses a serious threat to flight safety.
Microlight aircraft, aeromodellers, paragliders, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), drones, powered hand gliders, laser devices, and hot air balloons have been prohibited in the designated red zone area, as stated in an order issued by Ernakulam District Collector N.S.K. Umesh.
Operating these devices near the runway and flight paths was found to endanger aircraft during takeoff, landing, and in-flight operations.
This directive has been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)-2023 to ensure the safe operation of aircraft. No individual is permitted to operate any of the banned devices within the red zone.
Any such activity, if noticed, must be reported immediately to the nearest police station, the order said.

Amarnath Yatra: Watch towers, dedicated check posts to augment security grid around Jammu base camp
Jammu, June 17 (UNI) The security grid in and around the Jammu-based Shri Amarnath Yatra base camp is being augmented with the additional installation of watchtowers and a dedicated check post as the 38-day-long annual pilgrimage is starting from July 3. The first batch of Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims will leave from Jammu on July 2 amid tight security arrangements. "All security-related measures are being taken for the safety of the pilgrims at the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar," a police official told UNI. He said that additional watchtowers are being installed around the base camp as well as in its vicinity to keep a close watch on any suspicious or unwanted movement 24/7. The police personnel along with paramilitary troops will be keeping a hawk's eye round the clock in the area adjoining the base camp, he said, adding, "A dedicated check post is also coming up on the Phallian Mandal road connecting the fourth bridge along the banks of the Tawi River." An upcoming police check post will remain operational also post culmination of the Amarnath Yatra. Adding to this, he said, "Incidents like bovine smuggling, narcotics, drug peddling and land encroachment were also reported in this area, and besides heightening the security cover around the Amarnath Yatra base camp, the dedicated check post will surely be helping in curbing the social crimes and other incidents." The local populace, however, also appreciated the decision of Jammu Police to construct a dedicated check post in the area falling under the jurisdiction of one of the busiest, Nowabad Police Station, located in the heart of Jammu City. Moreover, the official added that temporary check posts are also being set up on the Bhagwati Nagar–SOS Home–Gole Gujral Camp road, adding, "All routes connecting and adjoining the base camp are being equipped with tight security arrangements put in place." "Foolproof security measures are taken, and along with infrastructural and human deployment, technology gadgets like drone surveillance, frisking machines, access control systems, alarm systems, cybersecurity intrusion and metal detection systems are also to be used for tight security cover." He further stated that several high-resolution and night vision Close Circuit Cameras/TVs (CCTVs) are installed within and around the base camp. Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu–Kathua, also conducted a security review of Saraswati Dham, Vaishnavi Dham and Kalika Dham Railway Station Jammu, where Amarnath pilgrims are also to be accommodated during the yatra. Special court grants bail to Delhi sub inspector Rahul Malik in alleged bribery case

The CBI had recovered two mobile phones which the agency had alleged that Malik has thrown during the Vijay Aggarwal along with Advocate Yash Agrawal appearing for Malik argued that as a chargesheet has been filed by CBI u/s 61(2)(a) and Section 238 of BNS, 2023 and Sections 7 of PC Act, 1988, subsequent to rejection of first bail application, therefore, considering the change in circumstances, the bail application ought to be considered afresh and his client should be enlarged on bail considering no useful purpose would be served as all relevant material has been brought on further argued that the alleged recovery of mobile phones from Rahul Malik where incriminating chats as per the case of CBI has been recovered showing him demanding bribe through another person namely Sherlock from Rehan is inadmissible as CBI has not complied with Section 105 of BNSS which lays down a new procedure for seizure whereby the entire search and seizure proceedings are to be recorded through audio- video means and failure of CBI to record the said proceedings makes the entire evidence Special Court had earlier rejected the bail application of Rahul Malik prior to filing of chargesheet considering that investigation was at nascent stage and the likelihood of Rahul Malik tampering with evidence and influencing witness as the statements of Hawala Operator as well as one person namely, Kartik Jain through whom Rahul Malik had contacted Hawala Operator was yet to be Prosecutor for CBI opposed the said bail application arguing that Rahul Malik was a police officer and well versed with nitty-gritty of investigation and criminal case and is likely to influence witness and tamper with further argued that Rahul Malik had used complex web of Hawala operators to collect bribe and therefore, considering the severity of allegations, he should not be granted Special Judge while imposing various conditions including that he shall surrender his passport with CBI and shall not enter the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai granted Malik bail.

TRAI ties up with RBI, banks to launch pilot project for digital consent management
Hyderabad/New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday announced the launch of a pilot project for Digital Consent Management in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and banks . In a release, TRAI said it has observed that a large number of spam complaints are made by the customers against the business entities from whom the consumers have earlier purchased goods or services. On investigation, such business entities often claim that they possess the consent of the consumer for receiving commercial calls and messages. Under the regulatory framework defined by the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018, an entity can make commercial communications to a consumer irrespective of his/her Do Not Disturb (DND) preferences provided the entity has taken explicit consent from the consumer. However, in many cases, these consents were collected through offline or unverifiable means, making it extremely difficult to ascertain their validity and genuineness. In several instances, consumers report that their mobile numbers have been acquired by the entities for this purpose through misrepresentation, deception, or unauthorized data-sharing practices. TRAI has undertaken several innovative regulatory measures in recent years to curb such practices. To address the issue, the regulations provide for acquiring consent digitally by the entities and registering them in a secure and interoperable digital consent registry maintained by the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for easy verification of consents while commercial communication is made to the consumers. However, for successful operation of this consent registration framework, onboarding of entities sending commercial communications is a necessary requirement. To begin the national roll-out, TRAI has launched a pilot project in coordination with the RBI involving select banks and has issued a Direction recently to all the Telecom Service Providers, mandating them to pilot this framework in collaboration with banks. Given the sensitivity of banking transactions and cases of financial frauds through spam calls, the banking sector has been prioritized for the first phase of implementation. This pilot, running under a Regulatory Sandbox framework, will validate the operational, technical, and regulatory aspects of the enhanced Consent Registration Function (CRF) and lay the foundation for sector-wise scaling of the digital consent ecosystem.
