DILG denies class suspension advisory for August 11
In a statement on Sunday, the DILG said that neither the department nor Secretary Jonvic Remulla is the source of the message circulating online.
'Class suspension advisories from the DILG are issued ONLY through our verified official channels,' the DILG said.
'Outside of these, such announcements may come from local government units (LGUs), the Department of Education (DepEd), or other competent authorities,' it added.
In light of this, the DILG called on the public to be vigilant against fake news especially those misusing the name of the agency.
The DILG warned of legal action for unauthorized use of the department's as well as the secretary's name and seal for spreading false information.
For accurate information, the DILG advised the public to refer only to the DILG's official Facebook page and other verified government platforms. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Over P802M worth of ‘shabu' recovered from Bataan shoreline
Over a hundred packs containing suspected shabu worth P802,400,000 were recovered from the shoreline of Barangay Sisiman in Mariveles, Bataan on Thursday, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) said. In a statement, the PRO3 said a concerned citizen reported to authorities that the sacks of suspected shabu were discovered near a lighthouse. 'The inventory was conducted in the presence of media representatives, barangay officials, and a DOJ representative,' the PRO3 said. According to the police, there were 118 packs of suspected shabu placed inside six sacks. The recovered items were turned over to the Bataan Forensic Unit for laboratory examination and proper disposition. "This significant recovery is a testament to what can be achieved when the community and law enforcement work hand-in-hand. We commend the concerned citizen who came forward and our operating units for their swift and coordinated action,' PRO3 chief Police Brigadier General Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said. Marcos tasks agencies to look into cases of violence in schools — Palace
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has tasked concerned agencies to thoroughly look into the cases of violence in school premises. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said the President wants to ensure that the child protection policy of the Department of Education is being enforced in schools. ''Opo, inutusan na po ng Pangulong Marcos ang DepEd, DILG, PNP, para po maisagawa ang masusing pagiimbestiga patungkol po dito, pati po ang DSWD ay tutulong po na makita at ma-monitor kung ang child protection policy ng DepEd ay naisasagawa po sa bawat eskuwelahan,'' Castro said. (Yes, President Marcos tasked DepEd, DILG, and PNP to thoroughly investigate these incidents. The DSWD will also help in monitoring if the child protection policy of the DepEd is being properly enforced.) ''So, muli kailangan po talagang maimbestigahan ito lalo po at mayroong mga menor de edad na nasasangkot po dito at nagiging isyu na po talaga iyong mental health sa mga kabataan. Increase vigilance The Department of Education (DepEd) has called on its field offices to increase vigilance and implement stricter preventive measures against school-based violence following a shooting incident in Nueva Ecija. The agency maintained that in its order (DO) No. 40, s. 2012, titled DepEd Child Protection Policy, 'all learners and school personnel are prohibited from committing acts of violence, abuse, and exploitation, as well as from introducing into the school premises or otherwise possessing prohibited articles such as deadly weapons, drugs, alcohol, toxic and noxious substances, and pornographic materials, among others.' Meanwhile, DO 007, s. 2024, titled the Policy Guidelines on the Implementation of the Revised School-Based Management System, stressed that school communities have a shared duty to ensure that learning environments are safe, secure, inclusive, resilient, and learner-centered. The Department of Education Central Office had strongly denounced the recent incident of violence that happened at Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija, in which two individuals were hurt. Police earlier said a 15-year-old female student was in critical condition after her ex-boyfriend shot her inside a classroom in Barangay Rizal. The victim was shot in the neck after the 18-year-old suspect entered the classroom "without provocation." Citing witnesses, police narrated that the suspect drew a .22 caliber firearm from his waist and shot the victim before turning the gun on himself. NTF-ELCAC's barangay development program gets P8.1-B

(Photo from DILG Quezon Province) The Barangay Development Program (BDP) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) has been allocated P8.1 billion under the 2026 National Expenditure Program. In his budget message, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said this is an increase of 314.4 percent from the P2.0 billion allocation in the 2025 General Appropriations Act. Marcos said this is to provide support programs, including farm-to-market roads, school buildings, water and sanitation systems, health stations, and electrification for each of the 808 cleared barangays as certified by the NTF-ELCAC. The BDP, a flagship program of the NTF-ELCAC, is an initiative spearheaded by the local government units in the Philippines to promote development at the grassroots level. This program intends to bring sustainable development programs to conflict-prone and conflict-affected communities. It also focuses on addressing the needs and concerns of barangays, which are the smallest administrative divisions in our country, or identified as geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
