Bengaluru apartment fined Rs one lakh for letting sewage into SWD
BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the Srinivasa Residential Complex in Sarjapura for directly discharging raw sewage into a stormwater drain. During an inspection, Rao also directed Mahadevapura zone officials to conduct an immediate drone survey to check encroachments on stormwater drains.
'Instructions have been issued to undertake proper desilting of stormwater drains in Mahadevapura. I have also directed the officials to monitor encroachments and assess the condition of drains,' he said.
Officials have been asked to resolve pending land acquisition issues related to the development of a service road along Sarjapur Main Road, where road widening has already been completed.
At Iblur Junction, he reviewed ongoing issues, including pedestrian walkways. He directed officials to persuade landowners along the service road to cooperate with the land acquisition process and expedite the development work.

Bhopal: Congress state unit president Jitu Patwari on Friday came down heavily on the BJP govt for the recently exposed police constable recruitment "scam". "MPPSC (Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission) has now become a corruption recruitment department," Patwari said. "Fake candidates were made to sit in the constable recruitment exam through solver gangs. So far, 16 FIRs have been registered, but no concrete action seems to have been taken. Earlier, the same pattern has been seen in the Patwari recruitment, primary teacher recruitment, and many other recruitment examinations," he said. He argued that lakhs of youth in the state dream of govt jobs and toil night and day for it. "But this govt is busy digging the grave of their dreams. I want to ask the govt - why are the children and youth being strangled? Will the hard work of the youth now be sacrificed to conspiracies?" Patwari asked. "From Vyapam to constable recruitment, it is an endless series of corruption. Till when will the MP govt put the future of the youth at stake?" he asked. Recalling the Vyapam recruitment scam, the Congress chief said, "Not only did a scam take place, but justice was murdered. More than 50 deaths took place, including students, journalists and officials associated with the scam. Even today, not a single accused has been punished. All have been acquitted. What kind of justice is this? Is this the Ram Rajya that the BJP talks about?" Patwari said the Congress would raise these questions on public forums. "This is not the time to sit quietly. We will ask questions and demand answers from the govt and society. When the daughters of the country are unsafe, when the future of the youth is in the dark, when the recruitment system is in the hands of mafias, then it is the responsibility of the opposition to raise its voice and get justice for the people." Besides, Patwari asked who is taking the salaries of the 50,000 missing govt employees over the past two decades. He claimed that 50,000 govt employees did not withdraw their salaries amounting to Rs 250 crore this year. "Fifty thousand employees of the state govt have gone missing. More than Rs 250 crore in salary is not being withdrawn by these employees. The govt has appointed a commission for this and asked to find the missing employees," Patwari said. "The state has 4.5 lakh employees, and the govt is trying to track 50,000 of them. This is a huge financial and administrative chaos. Now there is no one to take the salary, so in the last 22 to 25 years, who was taking this money of Rs 500 crore per year? It is an amount as big as Rs 12,500 crore that has been taken, but by whom." He said the state govt was continuously taking loans. "We have again taken a loan of Rs 450 crore. The people of the state need to awaken; they (BJP govt) have made govt employees disappear and have been taking their salaries for years. The BJP govt has made unique scams in the state – a Chambal scam, a snake bite scam, there are 42 different scams that have hit the state under BJP rule. Govt: Over 4,800 km rural roads built in last fiscal
Patna: With a view to improving connectivity, the rural works department (RWD) constructed 1,843 rural roads and 852 bridges in the last financial year. The total length of constructed roads was 4,818.36 km. According to details shared by the information and public relations department (IPRD), the RWD gave administrative approval for constructing 2,024 rural roads (5,250.62 km) and 1,211 bridges in the last financial year. "Out of this, 1,843 roads and 852 bridges were constructed in the last financial year," it said. Stating that the picture of villages is changing with improved rural connectivity, the report said the construction of roads and bridges not only facilitates transportation but also provides easier access to local trade, job creation, education, health, and social services. The report said out of 542 roads sanctioned for Patna division, 493 were completed, while in Tirhut division, 266 (out of 301) were built. Similarly, altogether 117 roads were constructed in Saran division, 102 in Purnia, 49 in Bhagalpur, 248 in Magadh, 223 in Darbhanga, 82 in Kosi, and 266 in Munger. A large number of bridges were also constructed in these divisions in the last financial year. In the current fiscal, the rural works dept has allocated a budget of Rs 991 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund with the focus to improve rural connectivity. Tuljapur temple to resume distribution of prasad with Chitale Bandhu laddoos
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: After a temporary halt, devotees visiting the revered Tulja Bhavani temple in Dharashiv district will soon receive laddoos as prasad, with Pune-based Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale roped in for preparation and supply. The decision comes as part of a renewed focus on ensuring purity and quality in religious offerings. Confirming the development, Dharashiv collector Keerthi Kiran Pujar told TOI, "The prasad in the form of laddoos will be prepared by Pune's famous Chitale Bandhu." He clarified that the sweet-maker is charging close to Rs 29 for 50g of laddoos, while the temple trust will be charging devotees Rs 30 only. The Tulja Bhavani temple trust stopped distributing prasad some time ago after receiving several complaints regarding its quality. In a significant policy shift, the trust floated tenders in Sept 2024, inviting reputed firms to take over prasad preparation. This move was prompted by heightened concerns nationwide, particularly after allegations of the use of animal fat and fish oil in the prasad served at the Tirupati Balaji temple created a stir among devotees. Chitale Bandhu, known for its high standards in sweet preparation, was selected through a transparent bidding process. The Tulja Bhavani temple is one of Maharashtra's most important religious destinations. It is counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and draws lakhs of pilgrims every year. The temple also holds a special place in Maratha history, with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj known to be a devout follower of the goddess. Officials said prasad distribution is likely to resume once the necessary logistics and packaging arrangements are finalised. The prasad will be made using pure ghee and traditional ingredients, aligning with the temple's cultural and spiritual heritage.
