Paris: The world number one star Aryna Sabalenka moved into the fourth round of the ongoing French Open, defeating Olga Danilovic in their third round match at Paris on Friday.
As per WTA's official website, Sabalenka defeated Danilovic by 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets.
So far in four matches, Sabalenka has dropped just 10 games, and 32 of her 37 victories have come in straight sets.
Following the match, as quoted by the WTA website, Sabalenka said, "The ball flies much faster," she said. "The bounces are much higher. You have to adjust your racquet, which actually I did not, and it felt much better," she added.
Speaking about her opponent, Sabalenka said, "Well, game-wise, she definitely has everything to be in Top 20, Top 10. It is all about whether mentally she'll be ready to handle all of the pressure, and she will be ready to stay there and fight. I mean, it does not matter what the score was, but it was a tough match. It was a fight."
In the fourth round, she will be playing the world number 16, Amanda Anisimova.
Anisimova, in her third-round clash, downed the world number 22 Clara Tauson 7-6 (4), 6-4. Anisimova is a former French Open semifinalist.
Also, the current Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen moved into the fourth round as well, defeating an 18-year-old Victoria Mboko in her third-round clash by 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Speaking after the game about Mboko, Zheng said, "For sure, she will be one of the best players in the future. I am 100 per cent sure because she already got the strength, the game. There is nothing more I can say. I am just really happy to win such a great player like her. She is really young. She has big potential ... She hits the ball really hard, and then she had a great serve. She had huge power. She moves on the court really well."
"It was honestly really tricky and tough match, because I know if my mental goes a bit down or lose focus, I feel she gonna turn around the match. I would say today I had one of the greatest tennis that I play here so far," he added.

Paul reaches French Open quarters

PARIS: World number 12 Tommy Paul blitzed Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-3 6-3 on Sunday to become the first American male player to reach the French Open quarter-finals in 22 years. Paul matched Andre Agassi's run from 2003 after Americans on Saturday equalled a 40-year-old record with five women and three men in round four of the clay court Grand Slam. Paul also became the only active American player to reach the last eight on all three surfaces after his 2023 Australian Open semi-final and 2024 Wimbledon quarter-final runs. "I am very happy to get a straight sets win. I have been playing some very long matches so that felt really good," Paul, who spent almost 11 hours on court in his previous three rounds, which included two five-setters, said in a post-match interview. Tommy Paul in action during his 4th round match. — Reuters "Shorter matches like this help a lot." The 28-year-old found himself a break down after the first game, before immediately resetting the match's trajectory, breaking straight back to correct his early setback. Popyrin, a former junior champion in Paris like Paul, had not lost a set in his run to the fourth round but found himself a set down when he was broken again, with Paul's superior movement and clinical shot-making handing him the first set. The Australian, constantly turning to his box to express his frustration, was clearly rattled with Paul attacking at every chance and with Popyrin's second serve proving a weakness. He was broken again at the start of the second set with Paul now firing on all cylinders and hitting winners at will. The American added another break to land the set before going 3-0 up in the third and finishing off his 25th-seeded opponent in less than two hours. He will now face either second seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or fellow American Ben Shelton. — Reuters

French Open: Sinner downs Lehecka to set date with Rublev in fourth round

Paris: Jannik Sinner staged a flawless victory against Jiri Lehecka to set a date with Andrey Rublev in the fourth round of the ongoing French Open. The top-seeded Italian dazzled spectacularly in the third round to wrap up a 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lehecka in 94 minutes to continue with his scorching form. Sinner's dominance resonated in just nine dropped points from his serve. "I was playing really, really well. Especially for two and a half sets, then he was serving very well, very brave. He made some good serve and volleys. But I'm very happy. Simone [Vagnozzi], my coach, had his birthday yesterday, and usually when he has his birthday, I don't play well. So this win is for him," Sinner said as quoted from ATP. On a gloomy day on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Sinner controlled the game with his disciplined shot-making from the baseline. Apart from his sublime form, he effectively negated Lehecka's serves to take complete control of the driver's seat. Sinner mustered up a total of 30 winners to just nine unforced errors against world number 34 Lehecka. The number one-ranked tennis star will face the aggressive Rublev, whom he leads 6-3 in their ATP Head2Head series. The 27-year-old Rublev moved to the fourth round via walkover after home favourite Arthur Fils withdrew from the tournament due to injury. Sinner is en route to becoming the first Italian men's singles champion in the Open Era after Adriano Panatta, who achieved the feat in 1976. En route to the third round, Sinner shut the curtain down on Richard Gasquet's career as he soared to a convincing win on Thursday. In his 22nd appearance at the clay-court major in Paris, the 38-year-old Gasquet's last dance concluded with a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 defeat in a fixture that lasted for one hour and 58 minutes.

Five-star Paris Saint-Germain are champions of Europe

MUNICH: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are European champions for the first time after a record-breaking 5-0 victory over Inter in the UEFA Champions League final played in Munich on Sunday night. Luis Enrique-coached PSG are the 24th different champions in European Cup history and it was the second Champions League title for Enrique, having previously won with Barcelona. Inter had trailed for only 17 minutes of their 14-game campaign prior to the final, but it did not take long for them to fall behind on this occasion. Vitinha picked the first lock with a perfectly-weighted pass for Désiré Doué, who in turn showed silky skill to square for Hakimi to convert from close range against his former club. Ousmane Dembélé provided the silver-service assist on 20 minutes, racing clear down the left before checking back on the edge of the penalty area to locate Doué. The 19-year-old needed one touch with his chest to take control and another with his right foot to fire in a shot which deflected in off Federico Dimarco. The Nerazzurri settled as the half wore on but had only off-target headers from Francesco Acerbi and Marcus Thuram to show for their efforts. Though there was renewed vigour from Simone Inzaghi's side after the break, it was Les Rouge-et-Bleu who once again had the creative and clinical edge. It was Vitinha's turn to drive decisively from midfield just after the hour, exchanging passes with Dembélé before sliding through for Doué to drill emphatically into the bottom right of the goal. It was a different corner but the same result ten minutes later, Dembélé laying on his second assist of the night for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who fired low into the net. Gianluigi Donnarumma pulled off a stunning save to keep out Thuram but there was still time for Senny Mayulu to apply the record-breaking flourish. Mayulu, also 19, combined neatly with fellow replacement Bradley Barcola before smashing a powerful strike in off a post. Paris had secured the biggest-ever margin of victory in a European Cup final. It was a commanding first-half performance morphed into one of blissful attacking endeavour in the second. An incisive, inspired showing from PSG, and one which makes history for more reasons than one. Former England star Rio Ferdinand told TNT Sports after the match: "Paris dominated it – they suffocated them and pressed them. From the word go, they pressed the life out of them and they had players that were in killer mode today. It's an astonishing performance in a game of this magnitude. I don't think I've ever seen such dominance at this stage." Key stats: • Doué and Mayulu are only the third and fourth teenagers to score in a UEFA Champions League final, after Patrick Kluivert in 1995 and Carlos Alberto in 2004. • No team had ever won a European Cup final by more than a four-goal margin prior to this. • Doué is the first player to score twice in a final since Gareth Bale for Real Madrid against Liverpool in 2018, and the eighth to do so in the Champions League era. • Luis Enrique is the seventh coach to win the European Cup with multiple teams, having also guided Barcelona to glory in 2015. • Hakimi is the first Moroccan to score in a European Cup final. • Paris have played 99 Champions League matches since they were involved in a 0-0 draw (vs Real Madrid, 2015/16 group stage). • Inter had trailed for just 17 minutes of their entire 14-game campaign prior to the final. • All four European Cup finals in Munich have produced a first-time winner. What next: PSG will take on UEFA Europa League winners Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine on Wednesday, 13 August. The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League begins with the first qualifying round on 8/9 July; the draw takes place on Tuesday 17 June. Both PSG and Inter will enter next season's competition in the league phase, the draw for which takes place on 28 August. Line-ups: PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes (Hernández 78); João Neves (Zaïre-Emery 84), Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz (Mayulu 84); Kvaratskhelia (Gonçalo Ramos 84), Dembélé, Doué (Barcola 66) Inter Milan: Sommer; Pavard (Bisseck 53; Darmian 62), Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Hakan Çalhanoglu (Asllani 70), Mkhitaryan (Augusto 62), Dimarco (Zalewski 53); Lautaro Martínez, Thuram.
