■ ■ ■ ■ ■ WYONG INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1: MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600m)
SUPER ECLIPSE (2) wasn't far behind the placegetters in her first two starts at Canterbury. Raced keenly when resuming with a third to Outta Line in a Super Maiden here. ZAMAZING (4) was third to Celtic Sin at his only run here back in May when resuming. Led and caught on the line by Steel Rain over 1600m at Gosford last start. OMAHA SANDS (3) was OK in his first two runs back from a spell before a third to Steel Rain and Zamazing. Was steadied late when awkwardly placed on heels.
BET: SUPER ECLIPSE to win.
RACE 2: SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
GAMP (2) laid in and wasn't fully tested when a length second to Hoku at Newcastle first-up. Led and run down by the favourite Bev's Nine over this track and distance last start. COPPERLINE (7) is a brother to Ritzsun on debut. Very good in leading all the way to win his last two trials, the latest by over four lengths from Star Of Indigo on the Beaumont on July 9. WAL'S ME MATE (1) has solid metro form with placings at Kensington and Warwick Farm over 1250m and 1200m. First go at 1000m.
BET: GAMP to win.
RACE 3: MIDWAY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m)
FIREWORK (1) kicked off last campaign with back-to-back second placings behind Fly Scotty Fly and Money Team over 1100m and 1200m here on his home track. Narrowly beaten by Denial at Kembla first-up this time off the back on one soft trial. Will be better for the run. PICCADERRO (2) was bumped at the top of the straight when third to Sugar Island at Coffs Harbour last start. Blinkers off, winkers and crossover nose band on. ALFRED (4) will be better for his first-up fifth at Gosford and a step up in trip.
BET: FIREWORK to win.
RACE 4: 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m)
EXTRA HEIGHTS (2) is a first starter by Extreme Choice. Jumped well before drifting back and sitting three-wide before sailing down the outside rail when a neck second to Koibito in his July 11 Randwick trial. IMPURITEZE (9) is a debutant by Trapeze Artist from a daughter of Bold Promise. Settled midfield and closed nicely when second to Valedictorian in his Randwick heat the same day. FABRES (7) race wide without cover when third to Sapling and Tequisoda when resuming here on July 5. Drawn out again.
BET: EXTRA HEIGHTS to win.
RACE 5: BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1350m)
AGED CARE (3) had cardiac arrhythmia when resuming at Scone back in May. Had a trial and retuned with a win at Port Macquarie before a second to Malabar here after racing wide without cover. CALIFORNIA SECRET (2) placed once in his first six starts but has found his best form this campaign. He started with a barnstorming win at Muswellbrook and followed with wins at Newcastle to complete the hat-trick. Game in defeat behind Audrey's Lane over 1400m last start. CELTIC SIN (5) has claims on his win two starts back.
BET: AGED CARE to win.
RACE 6: PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1350m)
IMPRESSIONISM (1) ended is first campaign with back-to-back seconds in the country. Resumed over 1300m at Newcastle and defied a betting drift to led all-the-way and beat Bohemian Art before going for another break. THE PACIFIC (4) improved off his first-up run to break his maiden at Kembla second-up last campaign. Will take improvement from his first-up seventh at Newcastle over 1200m. JUSTICE WARRIOR (2) has always shown nice ability and finally broke through with an all-the-way win at Tamworth. Will take plenty of confidence from that victory.
BET: IMPRESSIONISM to win.
RACE 7: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m)
GRAPHIC SIGHT (12) was given a good break after his debut third at Canberra last December when racing three-wide. Returned with a stylish all-the-way win at Goulburn on July 8. BURJ (6) resumed with a sixth behind a dominant Diddle Dumpling over 1000m at Gosford on June 12 and returned there a month later when a short head second to Divine Vicky over 1100m. Her maiden win was over 1300m so she will appreciate a step up in trip here. TRUE AMOR (1) dropped in grade and led all-the-way here last start. Chance again although wide gate isn't ideal.
BET: GRAPHIC SIGHT each-way.
RACE 8: BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600m)
HOW MUCH BETTER (1) has been good in his three runs this campaign including a last start third to Audrey's Lane over 1400m at Newcastle. Back a little in grade but steps up to the mile which will suit him ideally. Unbeaten on his home track. DUBAI WARRIOR (4) was beaten as an odds-on fav at Wagga when sitting midfield. Freshened and appreciated rolling along in front to win here last start. COSMIC LAD (2) has claims on his first-up win here.
BET: HOW MUCH BETTER to win.

Champion jockey Glen Boss pays tribute to semi-retired legendary trainer Lee Freedman
Twenty years after Lee Freedman's famous Melbourne Cup quote, champion jockey Glen Boss revealed he believed the legendary trainer's 'find the smallest child' remark was completely off the cuff. Shortly after the great mare Makybe Diva had won a record third straight Melbourne Cup carrying 58kg at Flemington, Freedman came up with the line that will be forever etched in the history of the race that stops a nation. 'Go out and find the smallest child here because that child might be the only person who lives long enough to see something like this again,' Freedman said at the time. For Boss, the clever comment encapsulated the trainer's razor-sharp wit and intelligence that helped him jag 124 Group 1s and cemented his standing as a household name in Australia. , opting not to renew his trainer's licence for the new racing season. He is now solely the manager of his Gold Coast stable, which has been handed over to his younger brother and Sydney trainer Michael Freedman. Boss chatted to Racenet this week about the profound effect that Lee Freedman and his brothers Anthony, Richard and Michael had on his illustrious career which ended in 2021. Hall of Fame trainer Freedman gave Boss his big break in 1995 on Flying Spur, who the Queenslander rode to victory in the Golden Slipper just a few days after Jim Cassidy's licence had been disqualified due to the 'jockey tapes' scandal. 'Until you sit back and look at his record, you forget how great this bloke was,' Boss said from South Africa, where the retired hoop is holidaying with his family. 'His sense of timing was always good. 'I mean that pivotal moment when the mare (Makybe Diva) won in the Cup in 2005 and he said that line 'go find the smallest child', those sort of things go down in history. 'I don't think he scripted that, I think it came straight out of his mouth. 'I remember seeing Lee around parties and things like that and he's a funny guy with a great sense of humour. 'He's great company and super intelligent to talk to. Not that many people would've got to see the fun side of Lee.' Lee Freedman won five Melbourne Cups, with Boss on board for two of those victories on Makybe Diva in 2004 and 2005, plus four Caulfield Cups, four Golden Slippers and two Cox Plates. 'Having been around him and observed him a fair bit, Lee has an incredible eye for detail which never ceases to amaze me,' said the 55-year-old Boss, who won 90 Group 1s. 'He always knew exactly where his horses were and how to push the button at the right time. 'It'd amaze me how he'd just look at a horse and say 'yep, we're ready now' or he'd say 'nup, we need to do one more thing'. 'He was never set to a pattern with a horse. He'd change his mind on the fly and he had unbelievable instincts.' As the driving force behind the famous Freedman Brothers Incorporated (FBI), Lee played a key role in bringing then-teenage apprentice jockey Damien Oliver from Perth to Melbourne in 1990 when he won the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on Centro for the powerful stable. Oliver and the Freedmans combined for a superb 24 elite-level victories in the 1990s, including champion stayer Doriemus winning the Melbourne Cup-Caulfield Cup double in 1995. 'They played a big part in getting me over to Melbourne and gave me fantastic opportunities as a young apprentice,' said Oliver, who won an Australian record 129 Group 1s. 'Lee and all the brothers were very ambitious and that sort of shone through to me. 'I was a bit like that anyway but they really brought that side out of me.'

Moonee Valley revolution a passion project for racing enthusiast and developer Joe Bartolo
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Developer and racing enthusiast Joe Bartolo has personal and professional interests to ensure The Valley transformation is successful. Symal Group, founded by managing director Bartolo, won a circa $70m contract in June through an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process to complete the civil and infrastructure works. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. The Symal works, starting after the Cox Plate on October 25, includes bulk earthworks, the full track reconstruction, upgraded underpasses, landscaping and lighting, before a May 2027 target. Bartolo, introduced to the racing through cousin and former jockey Aaron Spiteri, praised The Valley board and administration for its 'sustainable' vision to future-proof the entire precinct. 'You often do think about all the tradition (at The Valley) and the past but you can't help but look to the future and what this is going to bring to the west of Melbourne and to racing,' Bartolo said. 'I think what they're doing is unbelievable, an amazing change for Moonee Valley and puts the club in position for future growth and the next 40-50 years. 'It's sustainable with all the other infrastructure there as well, it's a really good revenue stream to ensure The Valley is around forever … infrastructure to stand the test of time and provide forever.' Joe Bartolo (left) enjoyed the JRA Cup win of Future History at The Valley last year. Picture: Racing Photos Bartolo has strong industry links through now US-based real estate agent cousin Spiteri, including dual Melbourne Cup-winning jockey and friend Mark Zahra and prominent owner Rupert Legh. Bartolo owned a share in Melbourne Cup runner-up Emissary, ironically defeated by Zahra on Gold Trip in 2022. • Mornington Glory on track for Moir defence The current crop includes Future History, a JRA Cup winner at The Valley, Theblade and Airman. 'The best for us was Emissary, running second in the Cup was pretty exciting and I thought we had a chance of winning that, watching that day,' Bartolo laughed. 'Nice of ol' Mark on Gold Trip … we ran up the butt of Gold Trip and lost all momentum … it was such an amazing feeling to even come second, so imagine how the owners of Gold Trip felt.' An apartment high-rise being built at Moonee Valley. Picture: Getty Images While no longer on the tools, Bartolo, who started Symal as a small landscaping business with a ute, wheelbarrow and shovel borrowed from his father in 2001, has kept close tabs on The Valley project. 'Projects of significance you always keep an eye on,' Bartolo said. • Laurie eyes spring carnival success with Group 1 star 'Always trying to understand what's happening, where they're going and what's going on, especially with an interest in racing as well. 'Sporting precincts in general is a big part of what Symal do, we understand the works required and we'll be finishing in May 2027 … the works will be completed from our part. 'The plan for us is always beating the works … we build major infrastructure throughout the country and got very tight time constraints to get projects completed, and we just don't miss those targets. 'It's very important to hit what we say we're going to hit.' Symal, an employer of more than 1400 people, joined the Australian Stock Exchange last year. Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. SUBSCRIBE NOW! ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ KEMBLA GRANGE TIPS BEST BET Race 5 No.2: WILD THOUGHTS Progressive galloper on his home track that can back up his excellent last start 1500m win here. NEXT BEST Race 8 No.6: BARBAROSSA Godolphin colt resuming for new trainer Ciaron Maher, he can make a strong first impression from a favourable draw. VALUE BET Race 6 No.14: SUPER ECLIPSE A lightly-raced mare stepping up to 2000m for the first time. She should be ready to peak third-up at the right trip. QUADDIE Race 5: 1, 2 Race 6: 1, 3, 5, 12, 14 Race 7: 1, 2 Race 8: 6, 11 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW JAY FORD only has two rides on Savvy Hallie and Wild Thoughts but tipping he walks away with a perfect record. TRAINER TO FOLLOW BJORN BAKER is coming off a career best season and can continue in the same vein with horses like Shirvington and O'invincible. TAMWORTH TIPS BEST BET Race 4 No.8: PINDORAMA Got back in a leader dominated race last time but got home well enough. The step up to a mile here with Aaron Bullock on should suit. NEXT BEST Race 2 No.9: SEE YOU THEN Knocking at the door with three seconds in as many start to begin her career. She finds another winnable race. VALUE BET Race 5 No.7: ANOTHER PEACH A strong on-speed winner last start at Grafton with runner-up Sawmill franking that form at Moruya on Tuesday. She will give them something to catch. ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ KEMBLA GRANGE INSIDE MAIL RACE 1: SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m) SIRIUS LEGEND (1) is another lightly-raced galloper raced by The Everest-winning owner Bon Ho. The son of Dundeel has made the stable switch to Anthony and Sam Freedman and did more than enough at his first start for them, working home strongly for second at Randwick Kensington. He can go one better here. ANDRON's (2) debut has been a long-time coming for connections with seven trials under his belt over multiple preps. He was doing his best work late in both hitouts this time and has to be a huge market watch. CELLARMASTER (8) and FEAZABEEL (3) can improve second-up. BET: SIRIUS LEGEND to win, saver Andron at odds. RACE 2: MIDWAY MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) It's hard to see SAVVY HAILLIE (11) starting anything other than a firm odds-on favourite. While this daughter of Hellbent is yet to win, she boasts incredible two-year-old form. She was only beaten by subsequent Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner Nepotism in Group 3 company before running second to gun filly Tempted in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes to finish her juvenile season. I AM A WINNER (1) has been gelded and could be ready to unlock his undoubtable potential. CUBAN CIGAR (5) has trialled up well ahead of her debut and is among the place hopes. BET: Trifecta 11 (standout) from 1-5-6-8. RACE 3: F&M BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m) O'INVINCIBLE (1) is a blue blood mare by Snitzel out of Group 1 winner Viddora that is still lightly-raced. She was a sharp improver last time and only got gunned down late by a stakes-quality horse in waiting in the form of Amreekiyah at Canterbury. She can go one better here. Trainer Bjorn Baker took the country route he often uses to get her stablemate SHIRLEY'S TRIBUTE (8) on the board at Bathurst. It was a nice win and she should take plenty of benefit from it. MAMUSHKA (2), out of Group 1 winner Steps In Time, returns after showing plenty of promise in her first prep. BET: O'INVINCIBLE to win. RACE 4: BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1400m) OCEANFRONT (2) will be one of the first runners for Nacim Dilmi as he begins his training journey in charge of Domeland. He did enough first-up in heavy conditions at Tamworth to suggest he can run well again on what will be a rain affected surface. THE EXTREME CAT (1) has the best form in this race after flashing home for third at this track on July 17. The heavy conditions are the concern with Nathan Doyle also nominating him for Saturday. YOUR NOT THE BOSS (7) is a better horse than what he showed last Friday at this same track and trip. BET: OCEANFRONT each-way. RACE 5: CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500m) WILD THOUGHTS (2) has made a promising start to his career with a win and two placings in three starts. His maiden victory came last time with an impressive two length success over 1500m at this venue. The horse that beat him before that, Cold Brew, has since won his next two so the form stacks up. He just needs to handle the ground to win again. AFLOAT (3) is another that broke his maiden well last start, eased down late to score a 1300m event at Hawkesbury. The step up to 1500m looks ideal. The same goes for FORBIDDEN RIFF (7), who got too far back in a 1300m event at Kembla last time. BET: WILD THOUGHTS to win. RACE 6: MAIDEN PLATE (2000m) SUPER ECLIPSE (14) finds herself in an even race filled with chances but she's among the best of them. She was a beaten favourite over a mile at Wyong last time but just looked to find them too slick for her when the speed went on. Stepping up to 2000m third-up should be in her sweet spot. ENTITLEMENT (12) has been knocking at the door with five placings in eight starts. She's rockhard fit, has a good draw and has a favourable on-speed racing pattern. Stablemate ALWAYS SHINING (1) could be a sharp improver stepping up in trip. BET: Boxed trifecta 1, 3, 5, 12, 14. RACE 7: CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m) SHIRVINGTON (1), like his namesake, can sprint well fresh with the topweight of 61.5kg. The Bjorn Baker-trained four-year-old was a winner first-up last prep before baking it up with success at this track and trip. FRONTEX (2) is back from a 153-day break. He showed plenty during his first prep with a win and two placings in three starts, breaking his maiden stylishly at Newcastle on March 7. ALIGNED (8) was given every chance to break his maiden last time and delivered at Gosford. He can run well again. BET: Quinella 1, 2. RACE 8: MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) BARBAROSSA (6) was scratched from Canterbury on Wednesday and finds himself at the provincials for new trainer Ciaron Maher. The last time we saw the Godolphin colt, he ran a creditable fourth in the Group 3 Bailleau on a heavy track. He looks ready to run well first-up. ARTISTIC VENTURE (11) is a promising filly that wasn't far away in a pair of Golden Slipper lead-ups, finishing fifth in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes and Group 3 Magic Night Stakes. She's got some class for sure. KENDALIA (2) is a knockout hope at odds in his return. BET: BARBAROSSA to win, quinella 6, 11.
