The Yankees' bats left the Orioles bullpen scrambling — enough to put in shortstop Luis Vásquez as a reliever in the eighth inning. But on the New York side, Schmidt stayed steady: The 29-year-old, who threw a career-high 103 pitches, finished with five strikes and two walks in the shutout win.
In the eighth, with the Yankees holding the 9-0 lead, manager Aaron Boone pulled Schmidt and replaced him with reliever JT Brubaker, who had a chance to complete the franchise's first combined no-hitter. Saturday marked Brubaker's first major league appearance since 2022, due to a mixture of injuries.
Brubaker allowed a single from his first batter, as Gary Sánchez hit a straight shot to center field. Still, the righty reliever was able to hold on for the shutout across two innings.

The Suns had a different head coach for all three of Durant's seasons. This will likely not be Phoenix's final move. The Suns are expected to try and part ways with Beal, but his salary (he is owed nearly $111 million over the next two seasons) and contract (he has a no-trade clause) will make that difficult. Phoenix explored moving Beal in February but never came close to making a deal. The Suns plan to build around Booker, a four-time All-Star and the franchise's career scoring leader. Over 10 years, Booker has experienced some of the best Phoenix seasons and some of the worst. He is eligible this summer for a two-year extension worth $150 million. NEW YORK (AP) — Baltimore Orioles backup catcher Maverick Handley left Sunday's game against the New York Yankees after being knocked over in a collision at the plate with Jazz Chisholm Jr. With Baltimore ahead 2-0, Chisholm hit a two-out double off Dean Kremer and went home on DJ LeMahieu's single to left. Colton Cowser's throw was up the third-base line. Handley moved to his left for the throw, arriving for the ball at the same time as Chisholm, who tried to veer to the inside to avoid contact.
